Well, my blasted allergies have ruined a perfectly good day off, today. But, I went outside to see if there was any squirrel activity--yep, sighted one in a tree (with the tree behind it) and shot it with my newly acquired Hammerli 850--right in the fuse box. Squirrel just ... dropped.  I'm certainly pleased; it was a little long of a shot (for a CO2 air gun (actually for a new owner of a CO2 AG)), about 28 yards.   

Loving the fact that you folks have reinforced the value of a well-place shot. I'm just amazed that I don't need all that power or high FPS to accomplish such a task. I don't know about all Hammerli's, but the used one I purchased (THANKS, PAUL) is fantastic.

I'm amazed by what I'm learning. Instead of moving up to higher powered platforms, I'm enjoying the benefit of the lessor powered ones.

I guess this does attest to the fact that lowered powered AGs can be just as effect (at appropriate ranges) as the higher powered ones.

Now, this does not mean that I'm ready to give up shooting my Weihrauchs!

They are all fun to me Archie.  High or low powered.  The highest power I have is 30 fpe.  That’s almost too much for my backyard adventures.  .25 would be way over the top.  One for you to consider looking into would be the FWB300S (Feinwerkbau).  Right around 600 fps +/- and laser accurate spring gun that has a sliding sled action.  They are side lever cocking.  They are a good 10m offhand shooter or great off of a bench.  They aren’t really a hunting/carry rifle but a person could if they desired.  Anyway.....

What type of allergies are you suffering from?
I get seasonal allergies (grass, weeds, trees). I found a combo that works wonders for me and I gained about 6-8 weeks of my life back during the summers.  I use Allegra (or generic drug name, Fexofenadine sp) and Flonase (generic drug again, I would have to go look).  Those two together take 90-95% of my symptoms away and make those weeks during the summer a joy again.  I used to be a zombie during that time.  Flonase was the key for me.  I used an antihistamine pill but I always got plugged up and then my sinuses wouldn’t drain and I would be miserable.  Every 3-5 years I would get a summer time sinus infection.  Problem is now solved!!!!  Yours may be different but it sure helped me working those 2 two drugs together. 

On to what I shot...

I can’t get away from this Wildcat!!!  I love it.  It’s perfect for me. Now I want to try another bullpup in .22.  Something like the Taipan Veteran.  Seems a lot of shooters really like theirs.

I'm a faithful Flonaise plus other meds user. Locals here say that Hurricane Barry stirred up the pot for many (guess that's me), so there's no telling which one of the many allergins that could get me actually did.


Yep, another gun that I'd love to shoot at some point. That FWB300 sounds like a sweet shooter, as does the HW30 (which I REALLY want).

Since these are already on my radar, what your doing is not really enabling...; right?

I did some casting, weighing/sorting and testing of my latest cast slugs with my Airmax Dominator.  I think the new slugs are going to be a winner.

I shot my Sheridan 20 cal pistol that I just got back from Baker today.  Lots of power compared to what it was and I got 5 shots into 1/2 inch at 22 feet while leaning against the door jamb.  I am more than pleased with this little pistol.  Love the way it balances.

It's been noted that golf balls are not recommended targets. Pellets tend to return at about the same velocity as shot.

My Mini14 was BRUTAL on bowling pins at 100+ yards

Brett, my 40 year old FWB300s is one of the, if not THE most accurate guns I own out to 20 yards.

i've shot golf balls with a .22 rimfire from 50 yards and they did not penetrate.  i wouldn't try it again any closer than 100 yards.  even though the balls were sitting on a fence and flew when hit, a few times the bullets came back our way.


a pellet would no doubt bounce off the golf ball and travel...?


i like shooting those foam practice golf balls.  hang them from a string and they jump around when hit.  very similar to a wine bottle cork.  they are also brightly colored for easy glassing.

Still trying more pellets in the newly acquired "used" Hammerli 850--today I shot seven mags of CPHP (2), Daisey WCs (2), JSB Diablos 7.33, Air Arms 8.4, and H&N 8.64.  The most flyers came from the Daisey WCs but still within 1.25 at 13 yards. The lowly CPHPs aren't as tight as the JSB/AA/H&Ns; but, they are quite acceptable. The more costly pellets tried here are just better in this AG. It also likes the RWS 7.0 (Hobby and Diablo WCs), 6.9 HPs, 8.2 Pointed (Hey, I'm thrilled). It choked on some heavier pellets (10.5gr), but that may have been shooter error. In all, the Hammerli is quite a terrific gun, even if lower medium powered.

Finished and sighted in my 2240 conversion to a PCP 2540 Carbine today. 1" at 50 yards off hand using a pole to lean against.
Still have to shoot it across the chrony but it is shooting pretty flat at 1200 PSI. It is comprised of parts from about 9 different manufacturers ..... mostly left over from other projects!

Back around '86 my dads cousin bought an H which prompted him to sell his ( now mine ) blue streak to my dad in replacement of the one that was stolen.
We talked to him a couple years back before he passed and when I asked about the pistol and whether he'd sell it I was told he gave it to a family member to take care of a rat problem or something.

Anyways this Crosman H9A I just got today is pretty close and I love it, if a Racine H came along at a non outrageous price I'd go for it but this gun has perfectly satisfied the urge.

And of course I've been shooting it quite a bit today.

I had another friendly competition again ,.22 cal Urban vs .177 cal Buccaneer.
Not sure yet which one shoots best,one day the Urban wins but then next time the Buc bests it.
Its going to take lots of shooting to see which is the most consistent over time,i only had the Buccaneer about a month.
It sure wins in the looks department with that great looking wood stock.

 Shot many magazines worth of JSB jumbo heavy 18g out of it afterwords.

I've trapped him several times, and let him go, but recently he's been dragging his kills under my mobile home, and stinking the place up. When I only had the Crosman Fire, they never penetrated.   When I got the Freedom, they often penetrate on high power.   I have had to replace a few golf balls since then.

Bill warned that the pellet could bounce back, but I have never experienced that.
