I was going to do nothing but relax, then I got a call for help from my son-in-law. Yesterday a crew he sent out for a catering job had a wheel including the hub fall off of his trailer. He had it towed home. the castle nut, dust cap and rest of the hardware was gone. I thought we would just need new beings and hardware to put it back in service. It turned out that the axel was badly damaged too. So I took the axel off and we search locally for an axel to no avail. He ordered a new axel and it is supposed to be delivered Wednesday.

 When his crew got pulled over they had no idea where the wheel and tire went. They were going about 60mph when it the wheel came off and it exited the roadway, a short time later a homeless man brought it to them.

  I left my floor jack there since we had to leave the trailer on my jack stands and he doesn't have a jack that would do the job. I am not sure if I will be putting the new axel on, he might have a neighbor install it because it might arrive to late for me to do it on a Wednesday.

 He could do it himself but he has a bad back and would rather pay to get it installed than do it himself and suffer.  Since it is on the street he might get a $60 ticket Wednesday because it is street sweeper day and it can't be moved.

Dan, that's a tough scenario to deal with.  Never mind the loss of business (unless they were still able to get gear onsite).

I had a tire explode on my small utility trailer a couple years ago while loaded up with our Billy Goat brush mower, some line trimmers, and a pair of walk-behind line trimmers.  Luckily it happened as we were taking an off-ramp to fill gas cans and grab some snacks at a Sheetz.  A tire place was literally next door to the Sheetz.  We didn't need anything but a tire, but I decided "why not" so we replaced both.



Yesterday, Sonja and I were walking our dog down the easement/access dirt road that crosses our property down on the flood plain, the scent of honeysuckle and clover thick in the air when we both noticed a change in smells... A really strong scent of cucumber/melon for a short stretch.  In our neck of the woods, that means one thing:  a copperhead nest.  We didn't see any, but I've seen several shed skins along that access road, and a couple years ago one of the folks who uses that easement killed a 6-footer that was as thick as my forearm.  I was intending to do some bush-hogging along that easement but I think I've hold off for now

  The customer they were on the way to saw them broke down on the road. My son-in-law was able to send another vehicle and they actually made the large event and served on time. The customer was so impressed with their determination and ability to meet their obligation and pull it off despite the incident that he gave the crew of 4 a $600 tip. You could say it worked out to the crews advantage. It could have been so much worse with a rogue flying 60mph wheel and all. The only damage was to the trailer and no one even got hurt. The axel and one fender were destroyed. They got it towed back to there house for $180 and the axel and hardware cost about $300. If he has his neighbor install the new one he will pay him to do it. I am not sure how much he will pay him but, what is left to do should be less than a half hours work, it's just 4 U-bolts (8 nuts) and the 10 lug nuts. I am sure he will pay well because he is a generous person though.   

 The fender will be dealt with by a RV trailer shop when it's mobile again.

Trimmed the crape myrtles and bought a replacement fan since one stopped working in the shop. Time to do a lot of weed eating and is hot n humid so not looking forward to it.

Ran over a chicken snake that stretched half way across our one dirt road. I thought it was a stick in the road until I was right on it. It was gone on the return trip so I guess it survived. I got it with all 4 wheels.

  He refused to take any money and walked away quickly. 
  My son-in-law would definitely reward him still if he could.

Assisting Hoosier Momma with prep for surgery #6 tomorrow and then the return home..
 Washing all the bedding, staging all the "Gimp" accessories, and disinfecting her living quarters for the next 4-6 weeks.... again.
Hopefully for the last time.

I feel for her Scott. I have a foot and it's toe that bothers me. Can't imagine going thru what she has. How many years of this now?

She has been a "gimp" for 9 months... Surgery #6 is tomorrow.
If you search posts on why was M.I.A. you will see.
This Dr saved her foot from amputation after a bad rejection of the metal implants.
Almost lost her on surgery #5, when she went into A-fib from the anesthesia of 3 surgeries in a week.
Spent a week in ICU.
05:30 check in for surgery.. alarm set for 03:30... Friggin lovely!

Worked for the man all day.  Gonna go do it again tomorrow.  Swapped out a grip module for a hand cannon.  Feels much nicer now
