Very nice and sounds like you hit the wife lottery second time around. I did too. You know that joke about sending a pic of the boat? She owned a 25’ bay boat when I met her ha ha ha. And will work like you described. Sure makes things better. Congrats.

I'm likely too naive and take people all too often at their word; lied to 3 times before.   But Sonja is exactly what she claimed, and perfect for me.

As yesterday wound down, I spent some time with angle grinder and Sawzall prepping some steel box tubing we'll eventually be using for posts to build an "awning" off our shed out on our property.  Sonja was amazed how quickly I cleaned them up.  I guess her ex- despite being a professional welder- was unaware using lower speed and a lubricant/coolant improved the speed of cutting steel, never mind it negates burning out bimetallic blades.  She helped him with a lot of fabrication projects and knows her way around grinders and Milwaukee Sawzalls.  I explained it was no different than machining, milling, or drilling as I cut through welds with ease.

I also tuned up my Echo line trimmer; it now hits peak RPMs under proper load and idles properly.  I was going to sharpen one of my chainsaw chains but after measuring, I tossed it.  It was my oldest and OEM chain for my Ego 18" chainsaw, and the OEM chains, though good quality, stretch fast.  I wasn't a big fan of this chain; it worked great on pine, birch, and sumac and soft woods but the semi-chisel and full chisel chains work way better for cedar, osage, locust, hophornbeam, and hickory.  They also drain the battery faster, but that's expected.  Locust is softer than the hophornbeam, but it dulls a chain faster than any other wood I've cut.  Aside from being tough, the grain is more twisted than red gum- though the constant breeze on our property might have something to do with that.  I did manage to save a 10 foot trunk of locust over 10" in diameter that is straight enough for a lengthy longbow.

I never got to wrenching on any mowers.

Be real careful going up the pass between Ash Fork and Williams. There's been quite a few crashes resulting in death due to the truckers changing lanes suddenly. It's already been closed once this week due to a big crash.

Sounds like you have finally found your place Peter.  It sounds like a wonderful place too!

I too am happily married to the love of my life and we are very content in our waterfront homestead here on the Sopchoppy.  We bought this place as a wreck for 40K ten years ago.  We renovated it ourselves and now it appraises for more like 200K.  We're surrounded by a national wildlife refuge, a national forest, a state forest, and real good neighbors!  We are blessed with the bounty of our garden, our fish ponds, the river, and the bay.

I always surprises me how many members of this forum are serious homesteaders.

Gil, I only use Oregon chains, they stay sharp longer and don't stretch like other brands. I have them on all my saws. I also use their milling chain as well when making lumber. I also use their saw bars as well.

Well, we got some pretty bad news yesterday..
It seems the bar/mancave was in Killer's ex wife's name and she sold it and the 1 acre it sits on. Last I knew, Killer's nephew (same one that bought the place we stay in) was negotiating to buy it but didn't get it done and the same guy that bought the place down the road that we lived in before moving here got it.
Yesterday the sheriff pulled into our place with this guy in the passenger seat to deliver us the news. I felt blindsided and it took a bit for the sheriff to mediate the situation. We finally came to the agreement that we have until the end of July to vacate the property. The surveyors are here today putting in the stakes and when they are done we will put in new fencing to contain the dogs.
One of the issues was that the driveway from the road to our place in on his property and he thought he could landlock us. The sheriff informed him that it was illegal in the state of Alabama to landlock an existing property that has a legal postal address.
One step at a time...
Betty Lou has a much shorter fuse than I do.. if that is even possible. She does not have a problem saying what's on her mind. I am trying to avoid a war. I'm way too old for that. We began yesterday moving all of our personal stuff from the building to the screened in room in the house, the Red Shed and the she shed.
There are many other large items in that old building that had been donated to the cause over the years that I can't nor do I wish to claim. I've contacted the people I know who may own some of these things (large bar coolers, arcade video game and slot machine, vintage piano and organ and things of that nature) to let them know that the bar is no longer 'in the family' and if they want the stuff they need to come get it very soon.
All is not lost...
Although we very much enjoyed the bar/mancave and the history of it and spent many hours in there soaking it in, it's not life changing to lose it. All my airgun related stuff has been migrating to the Red Shed anyways.

No, he offered the acre that we live on now to us. His nephew bought it to keep it in the family but we continue renting and living here. The bar/mancave building was in his exes name and has been for years. First Killer, then Betty Lou and I always maintained and used it. She really didn't have any interest in it but ran into financial issues recently and decided to sell. Killer's nephew had every intention to buy it but I guess he dragged his feet a bit to long.
Other than in and out to get something we needed in the house or the Red Shed, Betty Lou and I really haven't spent much time in there. Her focus has been on her She Shed and hot house and mine on the Red Shed. We don't entertain or have parties. Mainly we would go in , drink some beers or creek water and watch Nascar or a football game on a weekend. We still have 3 acres to roam and enjoy as we wish. Those being the house acre, the barn acre and the wooded acre.
Dan.. that is a dead end dirt road and you also may be looking at the barn. It is right on the edge of the dirt road.
Like I said... we are already over it and will continue to enjoy what we have. I spent a few hundred on the framing for the deck on the back but that was really all the money we lost. The rest was just time and we enjoyed that time.
