I picked up a three pack of magazines for the Crosman 357 when I was in town today.  So of course I had to load them up and try them out.  7.9gr CPHP at ten yards.  You can sure go through the pellets and the CO2 with one of these here repeaters.

I touched many guns today but did not pull a trigger. I also picked my Crosman 357 SNR and pondered if it would take much to actually make it a 357

At the moment, I'm on the patio with my Monte Carlo Daisy 853 and both ceiling fans are running.  It ain't too bad yet but, it's forecast to be 103° shortly after lunch.  If I'm gonna' do any shooting, I better get with it.   

FWIW, the Daisy 853's from the CMP may be the best deal around. Your mileage may vary?

It was time to do a session of standing offhand shooting, and nothing else. Normally, I mostly shoot sitting on the ground, with some kneeling and squatting.

Daisy 880 with stock iron sights. Total of 24 shots:  3 each at 40’, 42’, 45’, 48’ (one missed shot), and then 12 shots all at 50’ (two missed shots).

Because I am not used to standing offhand, I ditched any bullseye targets and merely put a soup can up. The three misses were pretty close misses, judging by the pellets lodged in the chunk of wood behind the can.

For now, I’m happy with the slow but steady progress made. I’ll never tire of plinking at sound-reactive objects; it’s always fun.

Ammo was RWS Superdome, 8.3 gr. The gun seems to like them, so I do, too.

 Put a 50 yard small bore shoot n see up shot it from 25, couple taps then let a few fly, stopped right before running totally out of air, forgot ear muffs  Blows right through 1/2" wood I had the target taped to.

 PS Bullseye was scared

That 880 has expensive tastes in pellets! I reckon I've been lucky, 1st one liked Crosman pointed hunter, last one likes win domes.

They are fun guns and I've seen worse irons on powder burners. Welcome to GTA!

Nah, it’s just that I had tried cheaper pellets (as well as two more expensive kinds). They were OK, but if I’m going to learn I figure more consistency in pellets is a plus. Also, they’re pretty clean and I have not yet encountered a malformed pellet out of any of these tins, nor in the R10 wadcutters.  Besides, any normal kind of .177 pellet is waaaaaay cheaper than PB ammo!

The tins of 300 Superdomes cost me $7 each—on sale.

I sighted in my standard 853 at 10 M and came back in.  It's already on the way to another 100°, or more, day.  I had a Dr. appointment in Tyler again yesterday afternoon,  the car thermometer read 108° as we were leaving town. Enough already!

Amazon has the RWS SD's right now at just under $.03 each. Point taken I reckon. I think cheapest .22 pb I bought was about double that.

Heavy trigger not withstanding, the Daisy 880 has a few achilles heel issues that can effect accuracy ... they're all pretty well outlined in the daisy gate on this site, and in top form I think it rivals a lot of much more expensive airguns.

Actually a little late.
I have been in "Paint Bank" Virginia. Visiting Daughter #3 and her new Family with absolutely no signal (quite nice realy).
  Sunday, the S.I.L. introduced me to his Dad and Brother.
 We 3 plus 3 grand-sons shot P.B.'s from one hill to another. 320-400 yards.
The targets were rocks... yes rocks. About the size of a baseball set up on logs and dirt.
They are lime stone and a bright white. Easy to spot.
When you hit them there is a white plume of dust in the air.
Best part is no "clean-up" on the range!
Quote of the day was at the end when the brother said.. "Scott, you taught me something today ... Yankees CAN shoot rocks!"
His father.. the alternate Grand Dad now wants a .25 and .457 airgun.

Spent a good while shooing my new HW35E in .22 and after many targets were hit, with only one miss.  Not too bad for an old geeser, of course the distance was from about 10 to 20 yards.   Charles

Been shooting the snot out of one of our Xisico Sentry HC Deluxe .25 this morning. This is the one I got originally before I received the 'basket case' one from a very generous GTA member.
I made a strange discovery.... it does not like to start a shooting session from the max fill of 3k and accuracy will struggle all the way through the string. However, if I only fill to 2800 psi it will run through 5 mags of 7 shots will great accuracy. I've also turned the power wheel down to setting 3. It also shoots a variety of pellets well. Among the most accurate are my cast 27.xx and the H&N Baracuda Hunter 27.47.
After lunch I plan to get the 'basket case' gun out and see if I can match the results.

Bumped into John at his bush retreat last night. He had two city boys with him learning basic stuff like splitting firewood and seting a camp fire.
I had my Diana 34 with me and plenty if pellets so the boys got bit of shooting in. Both about 13 yrs old. They shot till the light failed. They did prety well for first time shooters  Big smiles and a story to tell Dad when they get home about this cranking old coute wandering out of the trees  with a gun   That's the coUntry for you.
