Out with the Crosman 2100 and some 8.4gr JSB's again. Flash and Flytrap were dashing about ecstatically treeing squirrels. I didn't shoot any , not feeling terribly blood thirsty. I did plink a few pine cones to keep my aim sharp. The dogs were terribly frustrated that I didn't bring down any squirrels. I've taken them along on several hunts recently. Normally they are pretty indifferent squirrel dogs but this year Flash seems to be catching his snap as a hunting dog. He was with me the day I shot four nutters and it seems to have really changed his attitude. Now, squirrel hunting is his new game. He has always barked when he sees a squirrel. Now he gives a high pitched whinning cry when he trees one. Crying to a treed squirrel is probably the most important squirrel dog characteristic. It lets me know he's got one treed and helps me find him in the dense second growth that I hunt. We spent a fun hour running squirrels till dark.
You’re raising kids without a dog(s)?
I shot what I'm calling the GTA community gun, since it has been passed around from member to member for some time now.
Little early Chris... but I say "SURE!"
