So.....what did you shoot today?

I haven't got the new Freedom .22 set up and zeroed yet, so I just thought I would try the .177 at 55 yards for giggles since I have been missing so much lately with it at 25 yards.

Hit the golf ball on the first shot at 55 yards.

Until/unless I get a pest target, I may not shoot again today.   I know how to quit when I am ahead!  (grin)

It IS a lot easier to hit stuff when I remember to remove the screen from the window first!   

Well, I just could not stand it.   Yeah I hit the golf ball at 55 yards on the first try, but it kept nagging at me that it was just luck...
 
So,  I opened the window and set up the box I use for a rest and tried it again.  Same golf ball.  Missed low, missed low, missed low, missed low... missed high... AHA!   Nope, missed low again.  Pumped back up to ~3000psi and shot 2 more time... yep, low.

Then I realized I had set the power selector back to low.  (face palm!)

Reset to high power and I was bouncing that gold ball around at 55 yards!   WOW!   That DOES feel good!

Took the screen out first, right?  .... lol

Yes, but I don't think it would have mattered.   All the times I have shot through the screen, I have usually STILL hit the target at least 50% of the time out to ~35 yards and my lousy ability (shakiness) can easily account for more than 50% of my misses!   More like 99% of them most of the time!   

 

p.s.
And that was with steel screen!   Now it is fiberglass screen and I still have about 98 feet x 36 inches left!   (chuckle)

It's great that you've a verifiable reason to miss; I don't. So, I just get to own being a "not-so-good shooter."

No, I don't feel better now! But owning up does have some integrity to it. Oh, and it does motivate me to practice almost daily.

That is why it feels SO good when I have a shoot like this morning!   Too bad I did not have any tree rats or chipmunks for targets this morning...   of course, if I did they would be those from the movie "The Matrix" or simply be holographic squirrels.   (chuckle)

Oh, and one other thing that makes me happy is my reticle (Leupold) is simple.  NO hash marks.   So I am doing the hold over based on Chairgun and of course, the results I see.

Did some testing at 10y of my 23gn pellets I casted the other day.

In red ruger impact max np. This gun has never grouped all that well so this is par for the course.

In green gamo urban at 2000psi maxed out hammer spring. This is also par for the course with about everything I feed it. Higher PSI and longer range testing planed.

In purple benjamin trail np2. This probably a little better than other heavy pellets I shot out of it I would typically have 6-8 in a tight group then the rest would open up more.

In blue crosman 2240 carbine. This is a very impressive group for this gun as it was doing the same as 14g CPHP with a slight poi difference and this one was the only off hand seated peep sights.

Here's five shots that I did out at the state land today, sure am liking my slugs. It was about 35 yards according to the scope, I paced it out at 33 paces but I do have a long stride being 6'5" long legs and all.

Just got 2 squirrels within a second apart. Dealling with handpump issues and the prod sitting to the side has 1600~psi in the tank. Getting the table ready to opperate on the pump when 2 troublemakers came out of nowhere! Both within seconds getting into the yard had already nested on the bird feeders. Grabbed the prod with the "just in case" magazine i keep loaded with H&N hornets... drop one, the other ran in circles not knowing where/how he got in the yard and eventually stopped running within that second. That second shot was freaky fast and beyond lucky for me. Now at 1300psi and i need to fix this pump!!! Im expecting some coons to show up to fish tonight!

Shooting the 2240 and prod all morning, while my pump was slowly dieing, i found my old red dotsight and learned it was already zero at shooting 50ft it just needed one click to the left. Also found out where majority of my inconsistencies with the prods accuracy is created from...


The dot sight that comes with the Prod has a retical wheel for 4 sights. It works like a slide projector and "slides" the retical off the view for the next one. There is no good defined notch for the wheel to rest on properly so it still "wiggles" and changes the dots position.

I shot my beautiful R7 a bit this morning but It got hot and I got bored making one hole groups and hitting my spinner spoons and shotgun shells at 25-30 yards off the patio bench.  So, I came inside and watched PGA golf on the TV.

Whenever i hear these comments it makes me question, is this free hand or being steadied on somthing?  Things never get boring shooting free hand. Learn better stances, ways to hold the gun, and get muscle memory for next circumstances.

With hpa unavailable for the night, taking the moments to zero in the green laser for the 1377.  May not be what i hope in terms of power/direct outcome for the moment to come, but i do have high hopes too much....   12 pumps with 7.4 pellets at 11fps~ im hoping a small bit more fpe with 10.3g pointy pellets....


Still shooting to high right, but it takes a while zeroing a laser :/ most scopes have "clicks" for definitive adjustment but lasers do not....

I'm still trying to shoot out the 88 gram tank on my recently acquired, used Hammerli 850--it's a quiet shooter on the medium side of FPS/fpe--but very accurate.

Today, I shot sets of 8 (mag loads) at 13 yards trying to chrony the pellets from 7.0 to 8.64. The JSB 7.0 Diablos and the AA 8.4s shot the best, at 675 and 656 respectively. Since I'm killing pests at 25-28 yards, I'm happy!

I have noticed that with a longer barrel than my Weihrauchs, I'll more liable to introduce flyers by means of poor follow through (being tired, sloppy, or just not controlling my breathing or movement when shooting). However, whenever I concentrate on doing things right, the Hammerli really shoots accurately.

I haven't meant to neglect my other guns (deviating from my typical rotation), but I'm just trying to deplete the CO2.

while i was in the garage this morning preparing to work outside, i heard something rustling around.  a chipmunk stuck it's head out from behind a trailer wheel.  i grabbed the 2400KT and loaded an H&N Finale Match W/C and took careful aim before squeezing the trigger.  the pellet slammed into a 2X12 on the other sided of the garage and the darn chipper scurried over to it as if to see what made the sound.  i quickly loaded another pellet and aimed at the chippers front foot thinking the shot will hit the head as the distance is only 6yds and the carbine is sighted in at 25yds.  another squeeze and another high miss.  the chipper still doesn't move so i take another shot and miss a 3rd time!  now it disappears and i'm thinking i need to experiment with shooting in close quarters. i take a seat and very soon it's back again looking from under the sink cabinet.  at 5' away i'm sure to miss again so i reach for the Red Ryder and take a shot.  i didn't hear an impact so i'm thinking a bb didn't load when i cocked the gun.  but it's too late now as the chip ran past me and into a stack of cedar along the wall behind me.  after 20 minutes of waiting for it to reappear i open all three doors and hope it leaves.


i have been averaging 1 a week since the ground thawed, and harvested 6 in the last 4 weeks.

Yesterday spent 2-3 hrs. out back shooting an old B3, Crosman 377 and 577, a Crosman 3100 and a Spanish ES92. Punched paper at 25 yards with RWS R-10 Match W/C's and Beeman coated W/C's. They all seemed to like both well enough Shot off my Caldwell Tac Driver for the first time in a long while. Good day. Thought today I might take out my Gamo made BSA Supersport SE springer and an old chinese Fastdeer side lever.
