All in the spelling.  Diablo is the Devil red high pressure filter.  Diabolo is the name JSB gives their pellets.

The black high pressure filter given with the Yong Heng uses a tampon-like material.  Be careful here as newbies might think they can jack their wife's Kotex and use it.  They are sold to fit precisely in the black filter as well as some are sized for the big gold high pressure filter.  They are pretty much sold by the same sellers that sell the compressors and high pressure filters.  It's suggested you buy some spares while you buy either to save on shipping.

I like the little black high pressure filter to absorb the oil blow-by that gets past the compressor and into the high pressure air stream, before it hits my gold high pressure filter.  In my gold high pressure filter I have a "tampon" first, then an inch long layer of activated charcoal, then a small circle of my fish filter to seperate the charcoal from the molecular sieve material and then a small "tampon" at the end and out to the airgun or tank it all goes.

That black filter does get good and moist as well as absorbs some oil.  I think I ought to buy more spares for this sized "tampon" and toss them out after each use.

I ordered my Diablo filter from AoA and it is BLACK-I think red must be an optional color.   I don't see any specifications marked on the body and certainly hope that the Diablo (whatever color) and the gold Chinese filter are both made from adequately strong material with an acceptable safety margin.  The cost difference wasn't enough for me to consider the Chinese alternative in light of the above question but I'm sure both will function just fine.

Bob (rsterne) could probably give us a guesstimated yield strength of the filter if someone could come up with dimensions. I'm guessing the material is either 6061 or 7075 but who knows what temper. I'd image it's T-6.

Nobody can guestimate without knowing the material. Knowing the material and dimensions you dont need to guess it's just math.
Most likely its some form of free machining automatic grade alu like 6082. But cant say for sure.
If in doubt do as I did, hydro the stuff.

You definitely need some way to depressurize the filter when you want to open it up to change the filter media.

Wouldn't the filter depressurize once you open the bleed valve on the tank?

 I think the word diabolo is most of the time used to describe the hourglass shapedness of something, but the word originates from Greek and then someone christened the yo-yo game as diabolo and thats how it got connected to hourglass shape and pellets.

A reliable auto-shut off is one of my big concerns because I don't want to damage anything. I am in the process of adding a shutoff switch when I find time. I did receive the switch a couple of weeks ago from China but I have to machine an adaptor 1/2" NPT to 10mmx1 in order to get it functional. Bob

So basically you have to have 24 volt dc power supply from which you power that controller/gauge an then you just wire the controller output to 24v dc contactor/relay to turn off the motor?

That's not the same as it is only rated 0-1 Mpa where the other is rated 0-40Mpa.

Albert, Yes you are correct. I will be using two 12 volt @ 1 Amp wall warts in series to power the gauge and 12 volts to power a PC fan to assist in cooling. I will also be using a 12 volt input SSR (Solid State Relay) to power the 120 volt compressor. I have everything but time to complete this mod. Bob

I was going to go with a unit with auto-shutoff but decided I didn't want to trust them to actually shutoff.  Personally, I'd rather monitor the pressure myself and turn the compressor off.  I know there are burst disks installed but I don't know how much I trust them either.  I haven't heard of any of these compressors failing to shut off the machine but I will be sticking to my wits when it comes to reaching target pressure.  That was my deciding factor in choosing the 110 volt sans auto shutoff vs the Yong Heng 220 volt with it.  That, and portability of 110 volts, of course.

When I was breaking in my Yong Heng the other week my gal decided to microwave something up and it tripped my breaker.  Well, now I know which outlets are wired to the same circuit.  Ok, microwave is off-limits whilst dad gets to compressing air.  It frightened me as the YH just stopped working out of the blue and in that instant my mind was already going through the paces of how to deal with the seller and shipment logistics back to China and a split second later I looked up and saw my gal at the microwave wondering what had happened as well.
