So I got on this forum because of my gamo whisper and the CDT trigger which I never bought btw... I then started reading on the forum and spent no less than 1-3 hours per day reading all the info I can. It was like a whole new world was opened up to me! I almost immediately started saving money for a TX200 then learned about the Prosport. Then I was saving money for a Prosport. Then, as I was doing more reading, I learned about the HW98. Now I know why a lot of you guys have multiple guns! Some guy named Joe kept singing about a HW98.... It was a VERY HARD DECISION! I finally decided on a 98. I'm really excited! Supposed to get here next week sometime. Now the wait for the gun and research on scopes. Looks like y'all like the Hawke and Viper. Decisions decisions!!!

you need to set up a separate Air Gun account where you bank so family expenses can't deplete your fun funds.

Couple of things ...
**Congrats on the purchase.
**Clean that barrel before you shoot it.
**Good glass is a huge help.
**Break it in well, then get a tune thrown on her by Scott (Motorhead).
**And most importantly NEVER, NEVER ... listen to that Joe guy!!!!!

To say you are gonna love this rifle is an understatement!!
If I start listing the reasons I love it there will be a collective sigh on this forum!!
One of the reasons I got mine was watching Si Pittaway on You Tube.
He was blown away with his!
He was right!!
Amazing rifle!
Which glass are you thinking of?? And what caliber??

I'll get some pics when I get it for sure! I got the .177. I mainly plink with the occasional squirrel pest control. Joe- you were definitely an enabler btw!! I'm leaning towards the viper scope you have on your Prosport if it'll fit. That's my next thing I'll lose some sleep researching!

+1 Look at my gun collection and see why. To think I told my wife I only want 1 nice air rifle and I bought the TX200. Now I am broke, credit cards are maxed out, and I am now the proud owner of a 2nd mortgage. See I can quit anytime I want to. LOL

Definitely avoid that Palone fellow he is the worst enabler of them all . Did I tell you about the Beeman RX2 .20 caliber . If you love the break barrel rifles the RX2 is a must have since it offers easily tuned beautiful wood laminate stock excellent fit and finish along with amazingly accurate out of the box

Oh I've noticed your gun collection Booger! Really like the FWB. I've looked at the RX2 as well! I'm telling you it was crazy trying to decide. Im sure you all know that tho... 😉 hence all the sigs with multiple super nice guns!

Welcome to GTA Casey. So many nice springers out there it is hard to decide. Joe says the 98 would be the gun he would pickup if everything was on the line.. You made the right choice. When is the 98 arriving and where did you buy it?

Post some photos when it arrives and update us on your scope selection..

Thanks everybody for the kind words and advice! I had to buy it from AofA. Its the only place I could find them in stock. I ordered it today so I'm guessing next Thursday or so? I'll know more when I get my shipping confirmation I guess. To say I'm really excited is an understatement!

The HW98 and R11 are the same gun. Great choice. If you decide not to have it tuned, please give it 2000 shots. Mine took 1000 for the shot cycle to get right and another 1000 for the spring noise to go away. Right now my R1 is packed and ready for magic dust, and my R11 will be next.

Yea I looked at the R11 but it was a little more expensive. I figured I'd put the extra change towards a scope. They are pretty guns tho. Is there any difference at all between R11 and HW98 besides it saying "beeman model"? From what I've read there isn't. I really don't have another springer to compare it to. My Gamo is an IGT. I do know quality when I see it and I can't wait to see it!

They are the same gun. I asked Tyler @ PA to hand pick me one.

PA has done me right, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Things I liked:Quality is what I expected, bluing is as good as my TX 200. The adjustable stock fits like a glove, shouldering this rifle is a dream. Accuracy is almost unbelievable. She is light, and the no slip grips are an outstanding. It is a shame this stock is not offered on all the high end rifles Beeman sells from Weihrauch. The trigger is nice, but the TX200 trigger is better out of the box, and is about the same as an untuned T06 trigger. She seems to like most pellets, but loves H&N FTT 4.51 heads. I like the warranty, but it will soon be voided because of the things I do not like.

Things I would have changed:Spring noise & Recoil. This thing kicks like a mule and the spring noise out of the box will give you a head ache and should be addressed. After shooting a few days it is getting better, but is in great need of a tune with some trigger work to make this rifle the best it can be. It is said that the Record trigger is the best, and it might be after it has had a visit to an airgun smith.

What others should know:Service from PA is spectacular, Tyler is the best. I still gave this rifle 5 stars because out of the box it is as accurate as my TX200MK3 and will only get better with some TLC. I also own some other high quality spring piston rifles and PCPs, and I know they will be spending more time in a cold closet than in my hands. It is my opinion that the R11 is the most underrated rifle (break barrel or under lever) spring rifle one could spend their money on. I use to recommend a D-34 as the first rifle to get, not any more. This is such a fine rifle when you pass it down (after prying it from my dead hands) to your child will cherish it for a lifetime.

After 2000 shots forget about a tune until you wear out the spring or seals. This rifle is better than my New FWB. All spring noise is gone, shot cycle is nice. I know every rifle benefits from a tune, but why waste my money too early.

You want a nice quality break barrel get this one.

I really had a good laugh when I read this. Not just because it funny, but because it is so very, very true!

Congratulations Casey on your most excellent decision! I'm beginning to think everyone on this forum gets excited every time somebody buys a new airgun! Actually almost as much as when they buy a new airgun themselves! I believe I'd count myself in on that group as well!

Congrats on the new rifle. I can't wait to hear about it. I would love to shoot a r11/hw98!! I've been admiring them for for quite a while. An excellent choice.
Joe also turned me on to Wyvern's creations, a cross bow shop that will sell you hawke scopes at unbeatable prices. I just ordered a sidewinder from them. Talk to David, a good dude to say the least.

I gotta agree with Jesse, doesn't happen that often at all!!!
That this rifle is extremely under rated!!
There is not a fixed barrel rifle out there that the 98 can't keep up with!!
Built like a crow bar, excellent trigger, the sweetest sound ever during lock up, great stock, not hold or pellet fussy and this bad girl can flat out shoot!!!
Not much more you can ask for!!

The lady deserves some good glass and mounts Casey.....check out wyverncreations!!

Wow! Lots of great affirmation for my decision on the HW98. I read every review I could find and most rave about it. I understand abt the excitement of others. In Savannah we do a lot of trout/redfish/flounder fishing and although I love to catch fish I get very excited when someone else catches great fish especially if it's someone new to fishing! Thank y'all for making me feel welcome and giving me advice. I really appreciate it! I'll check our wyerncreations too! Thanks!
