Tell me paloneyj , what weight and type of pellet are you using to obtain those groups at 50? I just bought myself a HW 97K , so I need to know this stuff you see.
Use those CPL's. Every 98, and most any other rifle loves CPLs. If they aren't they best shooting pellet they will be right in there.
I have acces to two R11's from the 2004 era (one of which is mine and the other my dad's) and two new HW98's from AoA (one about 5 weeks old the other about 10 days old) and all 4 shoot CPL's extremely well. Another great pellet are H&N FTT but they cost a lot more and any accuracy difference has been negligible. I have another member of my range that has, or is close to ordering a 98, so I will see what his likes. They seem to be great shooting with about any pellet though JSB's in my experience follow the CPLs & HN FTTs. Every rifle is different though. You bought an outstanding rifle that I am glad to see getting it's due respect in recent years. It always followed second fiddle to the fixed barrel TX200 & HW97. I don't own a 97 but do own a TX and the TX has nothing on the R11/HW98. I don't know if you plan to send it off for a tune or swap a spring kit in yourself but will tell you not to rush out and do it. Put 2000 shots thru it, 4 tins, and see how it changes. My R11 from 2004 has never been opened up. Just shot. I will put it up against any tuned spring gun. Just a couple weeks ago when I was stuck in the house due to snow I took the barrel off for the first time and put moly paste on the barrel hinge and cocking shoe as I figured it was time. I found no sign of wear. Truely a great rifle. Clean the barrel now and then and adjust the trigger to your liking and shoot the snot out of it.
