My Diana Chaser (Artemis CP2 locally)

Bought a camo Chaser a few weeks ago after watching a local shooter's YouTube channel about budget shooting in South Africa.
We do not have access to the many aftermarket accessories and parts fellow shooters in the US have, so often have to just make a plan.

So far all I have done after adding a cheap and cheerful scope (will be replaced with something better later since the current scope does not have parallax focus).
- Polish the sear and hammer
- Adjust the trigger
- Change the internals of the silencer a bit which improves it.
- Shoot it quite a lot, testing in standard mode as well as with a spacer under the hammer spring.

A bit more tinkering this morning... really enjoying the little rifle, fun to shoot, fun to tinker with, not a lot of money down the drain if I do stuff something up.

One thing the CP2 has too much of is hammer bounce which is clearly audible when firing without a CO2 capsule installed.

Installed a simple MacGyver to stop that, this includes a spacer which increases hammer spring load as well - no more hammer bounce, the spring stops about 1mm before the hammer hits the valve stem.
(I will soon be making a new plug/guide for the hammer spring which will incorporate a guide, debounce and possibly hammer spring adjustment as well)



Shot a group to test.

Before the change, 100% standard, I would get 46 good shots at 10m but on the last 5 or so shots one could hear the hits are softer and the flight time is longer.

With just the spacer installed I would get 28 good shots at 10m and of course an increase in power.

With the spacer and my debounce MacGyver I get 40 good shots at increased power, then it drops off very quickly as can be seen in the 41 shot string in the photo - and no hammer bounce.
Quite happy with that - I am sure it will look a bit different at 25m with only around 35 good shots before POI drops, but I am OK with that as well.
(lower group in the photo is with some Umarex pellets I had lying around since lockdown, to date I have not owned a rifle which likes those)



Sadly I cannot chronograph at the moment, my chronograph attacked me last year while I was testing loads in my .416 Rigby, luckily I managed to stop it with a well placed 400gr monolithic hollow point...
Will get a new chronograph in the near future so I can test and tune properly.

I also notice the barrel crown is a bot rough, that will be tackled during the long weekend as well.

It is line I use for cave diving so pretty strong and does not stretch, and I have lots of it 

Had a look now and this looks like it could be 2mm spectra line or very similar.

Too much fiddling required to get the string length just right while compressing the spring 

Had a look at the long SSG thread on the forum, will probably make a new metal end-cap with an internal all metal SSG at some point - when the string version stops working, want to see how long it lasts.

Cleaned it up with the Dremel and polished it using polishing paste and a brass bolt earlier today.

Cleaned the barrel, put a few fouling shots through while sighting, then took it out to 20m - I am quite happy with the results and the fact that it likes the Gamo pellets.
Think I will order a few 1000 of the Gamo Pro Match, will work well for plinking and close range pest control.

Square blocks on the target are 1/4".

To me it is an experiment.

Since I doubt the durability of the line, I would be hesitant to sell something like that to anyone.

And being on the other side of the world from the US, shipping would make it a rather expensive piece of string as well.

I am a big fan of Diana Chasers. I bought 2 of them. I converted the other one into a carbine and installed an aftermarket LDC from eBay. Planning to swap out the cheapo Diana 4X20 scope into a much better one. Just waiting for the dovetail-to-picatinny rail adapter.

I also swapped the native screw at the butt of the grip that has the rifle sling hole with just a simple flathead screw because I like to cup the grip with my other hand and the native one is just too big.

If you want to get better suppression, play around with the internal baffles. I switched the first one and inserted it the other way around and the report was lessened compared to the original configuration.

These things are so accurate. The red laser on the pistol is a dead shot at 40-50 feet.

Well... yes. I do make a lot of parts for other hobbies as well but I don't WANT to make another SSD, I'd rather buy one. I have the Chaser shooting 750 FPS for 10 shots off the SafPack with a single O-ring BStaley mod. No bounce so Im OK for now.

Just ordered 25 in Buna 70 and 25 in Buna 90 to see which one works better.

I don’t make hdd’s and sell cause of liability reasons. Say I make one someone installs it in their gun shoots the neighbor’s neighbor. Opppps here comes a lawsuit lol no thanks.
