These stories have been all over my news feeds for the past couple of days:
https://nypost.com/2020/05/03/asias-murder-hornet-will-arrive-on-the-east-coast-experts/
I'm thinking a QB78/Bug Buster combo would work out fairly well for these things. Opinions?

Shotgun. I saw a deal on TV in Japan on those, and they are HUGE and very nasty. Brake parts cleaner works fantastic.

Just about any insecticide will work on these nasty guys. Bees, hornets & wasp have absolutely no resistance to insecticides.
But if you get the chance to snipe one, more power to you!

Any 10m match rifle that you can mount a scope on. My Walther LGR is my dedicated insect sniper. No bug is safe within 25m.

Certainly not a Bug-A-Salt. I sometimes go mano-a-red wasp with mine and I only win if I can produce a well-placed headshot. I have to get well within their comfort zone to do this and they are not happy about my approach. Kill radius is about a foot and often they won't abide a muzzle inside this distance. Six inches outside the kill radius and they shake it off and attack. I cannot imagine wagering death doing the same with one of these. I just don't move that fast anymore. But, this is the best time to witness me at my remaining fastest....
I was once moving through the woods on a fast walk after an opening morning hunt when I saw somewhat fresh dirt pushed away from the far side of a tree I was approaching. Thinking it was a fresh dig by a ground dweller I moved past the tree only to discover that it was ground hornets. It was an especially cold November morning and about forty of them were sitting in the mouth of the hole under the base of the tree, sunning to warm up. They were huge, about 2 1/2"-3" long. I surprised them and they flared their wings as I appeared around the tree, too cold and their metabolism too slow to take off. I had a long way to go to get back to my truck. Had it been warmer I would not have made it.

Those Asian hornets are a serious danger. I saw a special on them on TV. Not good that they are here.
My wife and I were talking BugAssult and it got me thinking. Google 177 shot shell to find a guy making shot shells for his .177
He was usu g #9 shot, but only 6 bb. I was thinking using a non lead substitute. Something lighter that I cloud get more shot in a longer shell. Little black poppy seeds or something. I will raid the kitchen this morning and see what I can find.
Sand may work, though that may not be good for the barrel. So I am thinking seeds of some kind.
The goal is to shoot carpenter bees with the 1377. If I can get 2’ or 3’ range I will be happy, as long as it kills.
I have seen vids of people shooting carpenter bees with all kinds of different centerfire handguns using shot shells. Looks like loads of fun.

I’ve taken 2 carpenter bees with airguns, one at 10 yds, and the other at about 22 yds. I know bees are important for pollination, but I don’t want 1/2” holes in my deck or shed.

They make lots of holes around here. Deck, awning over back door or in my siding. We have been battling for years.
Of course the guy in the video skipped over getting the shot shell into the breech. Looks like it will be difficult in the 1377, loading pellets is hard enough.
To get more shot in the shells, I will need to make them longer, but that is limited by the room in front of the open bolt. We will see. I may end up loading a cleaning wad, then poor some shot down the muzzle followed by another wad.
No poppy seeds on hand, but the little round candies that my wife puts on a cake may work. They are small, round and hard.
Yes, I have too much time on my hands.

The generic wild bird seed from Tractor Supply has 3 different hard seeds that would work. It's $11 for a 35 lb bag. Some sorting would be required, but if you ask anybody who grew up in the 70's, they can show you how to sort seeds with a Led Zepplin album cover and a business card

FYI, I have some CCI .22lr shot shells. From 3" out of a rifle, they won't penetrate 5 pages into a magazine. I personally wouldn't even try shot from an air rifle.

I have used plenty of CCI shotshells on squirts and chippy, works out to 20’ with consistent kills.
What I am trying to do is make a bug load that won’t damage the house.
Initial testing this morning is inconclusive. My wife had three different sizes of
“Cake Gems,” the little round candies to sprinkle on a cake. They are hard little things.
I stuffed a cleaning wad a couple inches down the barrel, then filled almost to the top with ”Shot“ followed by another smaller wad.
Ten pumps shot at notebook paper, not even the wad penetrated. But the little dents showed a pattern that may work at 3’ or so. At this point only a live target will tell me if it will work. But 40 and windy out, so no carpenter bees around to test.
Not sure the cleaming wad seals well enough, we’ll see.

You could move up to .22 and use these

Or there is this

Anything bigger than .177 causes death, destruction and general chaos in the state of Illinois and is considered a firearm. So no .22 for me at this point.

We don't have Asian Murder-Death-Devil-Antichrist Hornets here in VA, but we do have LARGE hornets, and I have yet to meet any that survive CO2-propelled RWS Meisterkugeln wadcutters via my 2400KT. I snipe them regularly at distances greater than their general cognizance, as I have no desire to get closer than needed. 20-yard splats are the norm.
Now for general mayhem, I have found a can of 3M spray glue an amazing tool when encountering a ground hornet nest. Shake well, then start spraying as they exit. They cannot fly with glued wings and quickly cluster-bomb the entrance to their own hive, clogging up the entrance quickly. After properly "glued", apply canned heat as per your favorite Benzomatic or Turbo-Torch and revel in the crackle-pop! I "resolved" my last ground hornet nest last summer and the results ensured my dogs, the ex-, and myself were all un-stung.

I have had good results with yellow jacket ground nests. I set up a fan in front of the entrance, move inside and plug it in.
They get very angry and most all of them attack the fan.

"fan in front of the entrance"
Now that sounds like a good idea!
For some bugs around here
we use P-17's with cap gun cap
then muzzle loaded with salt/sand/sawdust
capped off with a small part of a tissue.
Most caps are stuffed with clay
They blow up better than without.
I've been building a Hornet/yellow jacket pistol-
it started as an airsoft green gas pistol
that somebody gave me,
I'm thinking sand/salt combo
with suction blow by bottle
under front of barrel.
Just need to figure out how to
switch this to Co2 bulk fill
CO2 will help with-
if any get to close the freeze of the shot
should drop them just about as well as the sand/salt.
BugAssult-
Using a mostly salt/sand
isn't getting thru the hard exoshell they have
but does get thru its wings
That pisses them off and then you have to get away.
So, the CO2 shooter should be a real help.
The things a person that likes trigger time
will do-
well just about whatever,
as long as it is fun and not hurting to much.
As I've been told/heard.

Jonny, please elaborate on the cap-gun cap. You use it as a wad? The little red plastic caps?
