I use O'Reilly compressor oil for almost a year now with no problem. I think the most important thing with the YH is to fill guns only. Though some do with few problems, they are not meant to fill large bottles.

I hear what you are saying been going over data for hours … I think a guy can get away with royal purple from what I have seen on youtube ,and people tearing the compressors down checking for wear after running quite a bit , and finding things are in very good shape … Mike I think the week point was the top of the pistons use to crack because they were not thick enough ,but they changed them ,the new ones have a thicker top part of the piston now ,and better rings … another week point was or in fact still could be the rod breaking over time , hopefully they improve those also ,

We do not have to worry about dive breath quality air , from what I can tell/read  the make up of those oils in a large way is so you can breath the air running those oils in the compressor , but I am still scratching my head a bit over it , with royal purple so far people are not seeing any bad build up of carbon or other junk from all accounts I have read so far , it looks like its been tested quite thoroughly ….

I use the Shield AW46 Hydraulic Fluid.i have two yong hengs and they both get the Shield AW46 Hydraulic Fluid and they both have performed very well over three years just filling rifles.temps never above 41c...so what am I missing?do you have a yong heng cheap Chinese compressor?the oil is clean as the day I put it in the compressor when I changed it.
  the Shield AW46 Hydraulic Fluid works very well in the cheap little compressors and I wouldn't use ANY other type no matter what the preacher man proclaims.it was the recommended oil in instructions when I received both the little yong hengs.also I may add that the cheap little Chinese compressor was/is the best buy I have made since entering the PCP world,well other than the hated FX rifles.

If you're familiar with HP engines and such, you might remember what was done to factory rods to prep them for HP duty. Some of the same things could benefit the compressor rods IMO. The areas where stress risers might propagate a crack can be smoothed and the casting parting lines of these aluminum compressor rods can be ground smooth and polished. Shot peening is an option but it might be too expensive for the benefits it provides. But if a rod contains voids or inclusions, it's going to be breakage-prone, regardless.

Darn good thread here.  Guys, my YH sometimes will refuse to build pressure.  Turn it off and back on a few times and it resumes compressing air, build pressure.  What is up with that?  Only has been used to fill a rifle, not a tank.

I would examine your check valves and their orings for carbon or wear. Same with the reed valve at the top of second stage.

Same thing can happen on the shoebox compressor spring loaded check valves not operating correctly , either spring or o ring going bad , causing pressure not to build correctly , from a couple of tear downs I have seen I might be incline to use silicone lube not flammable to coat on check valve ,and fill whip metal ends , also pull the filter open at the end of the fill whip remove the filter ,and run compressor a little bit / air through it  to dry things out would help , since looking at a couple of tear downs has shown corrosion /rust happening …

design wise I don't like the idea of and aluminum rod THEY BREAK ! ... a  forged steel rod  with caged roller bearing at the crank end, and at the rist pin area /rist pin bearings ,and thrust washers in each side of the crank end of the rod would make things way more reliable , also a forged piston to go with that rod set up would be better also , Myself I have a back ground of building hot rod car motors ,and building world class pro racing 2 stroke /4 stroke jet ski racing engines ,and raced jet ski's Pro class  early 20's till 48 yrs of age { yes I am, and adrenaline junky !  } , so when I look it the internals that involve these components of the compressor all these design factors come into mind , and yes the compressor would cost a bit more with improved parts I am talking about , but well worth it in the long run ...

If anyone is interested in extending the life of your Yong Heng Compressor I have a video on my YouTube channel as poorly as it is done from an iPhone7 will help you if you can hear through the background noise of the fan running that at the time did not know was causing an issue...my apologies. I have managed to keep the compressor under 100 degrees F for a very long while and even after filling from 0-4350 psi and running for 48 minutes straight never went over 96 degrees. The video shows how and Aaron Cantrells video shows another neat trick with a wet cloth that also helps keep the temp down. Royal Purple Synthetic Compressor Oil is a given and I won’t run mine without it. I fill 3 tanks at least 2Xs a week for over a year and will not do so with out the technics I have learned from others as well as my self. A electric fan, a cooler full of ice and just enough water to cover the pump. Your golden. Knifemaker may be right about lube...wouldn't hurt to repost at least the basic ideas/results.

Did not buy it for hard-duty (tank filling) use....so it gets run infrequently and in short runs.  That may be harder on the system than longer runs(at least if you don't over heat it)....is-what-it-is,that's how I use it when it does get used.

(thinking it is kind of like stop-n-go milage/wear and tear vs. highway milage on a car.)

So I would say that,becasue of popularity,when it does come time to find some spare parts and attempt a rebuild,the SY wouold be esasier to deal with.


Been like 2 years (give or take a couple of months),stillworking fine,but a lot of oil changes.  Considering the "sling lube"system,figued sooner-oil changes were better than late-oil changes.
Being both inquisitive and cheap,filter the used oil looking for particulates....slightly gray is the worst I've seen...no "shards"or visual bits.

ALL used oil just gets dumped in a "Homer" bucket  with all the used oil (lawn mower.car.compressor,generator, ,etc) as somthing to use with a paintbursh to preserve outdoor wrough iron decroatives (got a lot of above ground tombs here).  Eventually the iron work builds up a "crust" and doesn't need much on my quarterly visits.

I would get at least a 150 gph pump for the water supply. I picked mine up at a fish store by me. I don't know how much you gain by going bigger but it's limited by the size of the hose anyway. Mine runs at about 57c at the highest once it has run for awhile. It will top off my 6.8L tank from 175 bar to 300+ bar in less than 25 minutes. Just make sure all the fittings are shut tight after it gets going.

I've been using a 5 gallon bucket and filling it with about 4 to 4 1/2 gallons and putting in 4-5 ice packs my wife gets from work. I was just reading where someone only uses enough water to cover the pump and now that I think about it probably has better cooling like that with less water. I'm going to try it next time.

I'm going to switch from royal purple to this stuff.  Flash point is quite high.  Viscosity at temp is higher, too.  Cost is the same, roughly.

Thanks! I use an 80 GPH pump for the small laser, but for this I went to the larger Smartpond adjustable 155-300GPH with 3-5 foot of lift with a 5 gallon bucket and 2.5 - 3 gallons of water. I do like the cool packs. I have used those. I started freezing Gatorade quart bottles when a cool pack burst. I've also used ice cubes, but as the cubes melt there's a risk of getting contamination in the laser tube which is bad.

Won't have that problem with this (I don't think). Manual is not bad, but I'll probably watch a few videos of setting this thing up and getting familiar with it.

Just having it here is motivation to shoot!

The label reads model YH-QB01 with a date of 2019-12. If that's not it, where do I look for the revision numer?
