I don't think a lack of map skills is anything new.   Isn't there an old army saying  "the most dangerous thing in the world is a 2nd lieutenant with a map and compass" ?

Butter balls killed almost more soldiers than the enemy.😡 I'd never heard it called a lensic compuse but knew how to use one. You notice I said knew as in past tense.

I taught orienteering (navigating by map and compass) in the Army and later for the park service.  It is remarkable how many people cannot read a map.  I carry a Lensatic compass in my possibles bag or a Suunto card compass on a lanyard while hunting and fighting fire.  This thread inspired me to get my compasses out and clean them up for hunting season.

I grew up on the shores of Lake Erie. If the water was on the right I was going west. If on the left I was going east. If my feet got wet I was going north and if things started smelling better I was going south.

Monday we got some help to supplement our weed control efforts. Every year requires a mix of our own hand weeding, backpack spraying, and the pro with the ATV and spray tank. What happens where depends on the location, the weed species, and the extent of infestation.

Yesterday we wrapped up a similar mix of efforts to finish getting the rest of the t-posts placed.

If I don't do any shooting today, it will have to wait till Saturday. Probably won't happen today because of a chore I need to do, and we go out for dinner tonight--our 21st anniversary. 🙂

I trimmed my beard, then I made my planned trip to town, I went to Autozone first, second stop was the Carwash, then to the Barber Shop.
 I am looking handsome now!    LOL  Well, at least not shaggy.

I've been working in my new shop (20x30 steel building, on slab) every evening lately doing the fun task of putting tools away, organizing, and building a workbench.  I'm still working on wrapping up the trenching for power; the run is 66 feet long, 20" deep, 4" wide, and hard-pack clay the whole way down.  Been getting a great workout with the adzes and trenching shovel while Sonja is breaking things up with a digging bar and post hole digger. 

I'm getting the electrical parts together- 125 amp service, 240v coming off our spare 400 amp box.  The electrical isn't too bad cost-wise.  Going with 2" conduit, #` 4-strand wire, and of course all the boxes, breakers, and panel but I had most of that already.

The workbench I've been making is all scrap lumber, 33" tall, 24" deep, 12 1/2 feet wide.  Lower shelf on the workbench is all scrap plywood.  It is nice to finally have a real shop/garage.  Last time I had one with power (and I don't have it yet) was back in Virginia Beach almost 20 years ago.  The shop also means no more oil changes or brake jobs laying on gravel or crusher-run.

The memsahib and I packed up and headed into town today.  I had my yearly check-up with the quacks.  This year it was a perky, bubbly, PA who looked about 16 and sounded dumb as a bag of hammers.  If it's her version of bedside manner good for her!  She came off as positive and helpful although a little clueless.  Better than the usual surly medical staff I'm used to.  The bad news is my blood pressure is high for the first time in my life.  Normally I run a little low.  The dingbat thinks it's probably the Meloxicam I'm taking.  So I'm laying off the meloxicam and monitoring my BP myself for a while.

We hit the ship's chandler on the way home and I secured a keg of rum.  Once home I spliced the main brace.  Observing the main brace more closely I determined that it was in need of considerable reinforcement.  So I spliced it again.  It may need further treatment as the evening progresses.

A belated happy anniversary Pat.  La Esposa and I will have been deliriously happily married for 26 years coming up the 31st!

It was a costume wedding so all our friends could come as they liked.

Just got back from town where I was subjected to an MRI scan.  I'll hopefully hear from the quacks about it in a few days.  The memsahib and I lunched at our favorite Ptomaine truck.  She had a barbacoa burrito and I had lingua tacos in the El Salvadoran style (lots of cilantro and lime).  It was all excellent!  We stopped at re-store on the way home and looked at pedestal sinks and considered a tub or a shower surround for our attic renovation.  They didn't have anything today that I wanted but if you check restore regularly you'll eventually find what you want.  Cheap.

Wife went and had 5 new tires mounted on the FJ Friday. Last night she comes in with this little block of metal. She asked me what it was and I told her it was a wheel weight. So she goes out and checks the tires they just installed and sure enough there's 2 missing.🤬🤬🤬 So I'm out there this afternoon installing the spare so we wouldn't have to drive on a unbalanced tire. Man that was a workout!! Then she notices there a lose weight on the spare I just mounted.🤬🤬🤬🤬 She's going down and get in their face about it Monday. I may end up doing it if it turns out I'm not sick. My nose has been stuffed up and started running and I'm really tired.
