I feel lucky to have this little homestead.  There are advantages to a shorter growing season Tom.  The bugs never stop here and most of my spring garden will burn up by July.
When we lived in Texas we had a plate that said “Farm Truck”.  One more reason to love Texas!
I don’t know if Florida has a plate like that but I am definitely going to find out.
It’s pouring rain on my garden today.  We knew this storm was coming so we tried to get as much done yesterday as we could.  We live in a tiny house so I don’t have a “man cave”.  It’s more of a “man cove”.  My corner of the living room.  I’ll be hanging out here today and maybe doing some reorganizing of my space.

Went to the gas station, spent the loan $$$$ filling my tank......

Then, stopped at the NON-Ethanol gas station and filled up my mower tanks........
Interestingly, ethanol gas was $3.80/gl; non-ethanol was $3.99/gl.

Now I am drowning my sorrows in alcohol.....

Filled up the Element this morning since Sonja took the CRV.  Both are old- early 2000s, both have over 200k miles, and both are paid off.  We gotta go places so fuel ain't a big deal, but when filling up a dinky tank in either Honda still runs north of $40, I'm just glad I sold my Titan.  Yeah, it got about 21 MPG but it had a much larger tank and it was my daily driver.

Sad part is I still need a full-size tow-mule for hauling, towing, and moving big stuff.  But whatever we end up with won't be the main wheels so even an 88 F-250 with that beefy 460  (we're checking out one this week, along with an 85 with the straight-6) ain't gonna kill us.  Well as long as we don't need to commute it in



Plans were a mess at work.  So much is in flux or mid-process-change that my own job is shifting as I type this.  My move from support to data team and migration guru carries both a nifty raise and gets me off the phones... So I've been documenting all the "tribal knowledge" accrued from my experience into some formalized documents so our most recent hires aren't having to jump through the same flaming circus hoops I did 15 years ago.  Luckily, all the idjits we had in support back then were fired or as the saying is, were encouraged to seek career advancement opportunities elsewhere.

Got another cord or so of wood cut and dragged out of the woods-still need to drag it over to the woodpile and section/stack it-but we've got it all out of the brush before the devil ticks start crawling in masses... 
Have around 3-4 cords (maybe more; hard to guesstimate) of ash that needs sawed up and stacked now-then split.
Cannot believe the amount of dead trees left by the ash borers 
Also topping off the pantry; as stuff ain't getting any cheaper.

Peter, I had an '03 Element [I think that was the first year].  It was my commuter and regularly recorded 28+ MPG.  My Judy and I loved that vehicle, and made several trips from Louisiana to West Virginia.  At first we got some looks as we cruised along the interstates.  Great vehicles and very utilitarian in design.  CUTE too!

I had carried my Zero turn to the shop Monday. It had stopped charging and I couldn't figure it out. I hate diagnosing electrical problems.
Picked it up today. Problem was a corroded treminal on one of the six relays. $12 part $88 labor

I've done the tiny home thing. My wife and I lived in a 36' class A RV for two years while saving for where we live now. We too have a little homestead and my chicken operation is finally maturing. My 20 layers produced 16 eggs today, I couldn't even believe it!

They are predicting 27* here in the panhandle on Saturday night. Spring breakers better bring long underwear or a wet suit if going to the beach.

I spoke with my younger brother in Lafayette, LA yesterday.  Saturday, they may not get any snow - but will have freezing temperatures. 
The old folks always said not to plant any Summer plants in the ground before March 15th.  eg - tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc.  I believe they learned from experience.

It is currently 29°F but we will see 77°F today.
I think I will go for a motorcycle ride south through the Anza Borrego desert and up into the San Diego mountains and back today. Or maybe ride out to the Salton Sea? If my wife is free to go, if not I may go anyway but probably not.

I love going to Julian Ca but my wife doesn't enjoy riding if it is cold at all and the High there today is suppose to be 63 and winds at 10mph. The Salton Sea/Desert might be a better choice today.

Well I got the bike out and the battery was too low to start. So I put it on charge and cleaned it up a bit while I waited for it to charge up enough for today, I also ordered a new battery.

 We then just took a short ride through Wine Country and dodged all the DUI drivers. A fellow really needs to be on his toes with all the "Wine Tasters" weaving from Vineyard to Vineyard on a Saturday. One in front of me almost took out a CHP Head-on, getting in the turning left lane, (there wasn't any left turn lane). 

The weather was perfect, mid 70°s, I was careful, the ride was great.

Much better than my old Jet 1236. Speed from 50 to over 3000 rpm. Low speed is great when turning a piece of out of balance firewood. So far, I love it. Now to move the old one out to the garage and sell it.

Thanks Tom. I’m going to ask for advice for a metal turning lathe in the machine gate. I have a few wood tools too and could use some more. I gave away some nice stuff before moving back to VA.
