Quote from: Jshooter71 on May 15, 2020, 08:06:25 AMWork’s been a little chaotic. Yesterday was a rough one, but couldn’t complain... that is til I got home. I’m saying hi to the dogs and my my wife’s on the phone, she looks up and says “does that say 77* in here or 71*”. I look and the tstat says 77*. So I go outside, purge my gauges and connect to the heat pump, and it s u c k s it down. I fixed a leak back in December and here I go again. Found and fixed the leak, also removed the problem, a plastic coil support from right above both leaks I repaired. I tried to replace all the supports with rubber vibration isolator pads, but they were about an 3/16” too tall, I couldn’t get the top down without causing further damage. So I put 5 of the 6 supports back in (with the exception of the culprit) and put everything back together. Evacuated to 550 microns, weighed in the charge and started her up in the dark. The thing is actuallay a lot quieter now, so I guess I should have pulled that thing out in December. I could complain, but then again, it’s fixed. I know a lot of other people would’ve had to call someone, or deal with no AC til they could afford to call someone. And most likely would’ve been sold a whole new unit or system. Mine’s one of the last R22s, so it would’ve been a whole new system.Edit: I’m no Hero, but I am to the wife, at least for a moment!Congratulations, I know down here the service repair companies are backed up. Parts are hard to get. Yes your knowledge and availability saved you some heartache. Hero, I know what you're talking about. I'm known as Macgyver where ever I work. I have tools in my truck, not licensed in anything but growing up summers including working as an electrician's helper (he had Parkinson's disease and shook a lot) where I had 3 mo of hands-on-training. Another summer as a plumbers assistant, this wss before PVC, cut and thread the pipe. I'm a pretty decent welder, I've built two of my three utility trailers. I took off two months when we built our house, it was just the carpenter and myself. I think I cut every board in this house. I worked till I had the house blacked in. (At the time, my father and I owned a NAPA auto parts store, that's how I could take off two months). So my wife thinks I can do anything. But no, I'm no hero, I just enjoy fixing what I can. But I know zero about refrigeration or air conditioning.

Carl, that is a neat idea. My son is the woodworker though. So his boys are already building stuff themselves. My Judy and I do take them on little outings though. The last one was on a loop road around the baseball park where I took them for a bicycle ride. We were riding about an hour. I kept messing with the younger one (will be eight in next month). When we would come to a hill, I would tell him how "terrible" the hill was. And once he had conquered it, I would tell him how proud I was. Both are good athletes and love the outdoors.I hope they remember these time like I remember things my grandfathers did with me.
Was going to mow but battery on lawn tractor was dead. Would not take a charge either. Place I go to get a new battery is still closed. Looks like I use the walk-behind mower tomorrow. *sigh*
Woke up, went to work, worked, came home, ate a snack, showered and shaved, dressed up frozen pizzas for dinner, ate, chilling with my iPad surfing the forums, thinking about grabbing a gun and shooting or grabbing a book and reading to the kids. Wish I had some cookies with milk or chocolate cake.
