Yeah that’s probably the best suggestion for springers. Maybe even secure it to the table. I didn’t do that with the big bore and wish I had.I got a Caldwell for $80. I figured even if I fix/get a new one, it is more fragile and hard to mount/use on some rifles and pistols. Sometimes I do want to see accuracy while measuring the speed.
Thanks. I was thinking that about just resting the barrel on it. I assume the muzzle only needs to be flush with the mount. These have been out awhile. Do other chrono models have replaceable batteries? These look like a good deal but I guess I’d be asking if it might be worth it to pay more for one with a possibly longer lifespan. I have never owned or used one. Tried chrono connect with no success.

It's nice to be able to chrony and shoot for accuracy at the same time, and it's also very nice not to have to manually record your shot strings if you want to analyze them in a spreadsheet. Last time I had my $30 one out I also noticed I had to wait a few seconds between shots for it to record properly, which can get annoying if you are shooting long strings or rapid-firing CO2 guns. If I had it to do again I would have just started with the Caldwell. The Caldwell uses a single 9V battery, which will likely be more expensive in the long run, as the cheapo is rechargeable. It probably wouldn't even be worth it to replace the rechargeable battery given the cost of the unit, but I doubt that would ever be needed unless you are using it a whole lot. I think the price fluctuates a lot on the Caldwell so maybe do a camelcamelcamel alert. But at the end of the day, the $30 chrony is better than no chrony!
Here’s the battery. It is unmarked. Looks like a typical small device Li-ion battery.
Yeah. I suspect with typical use, especially if it is frequent enough to keep the battery at the half-charged level, the thing will last a decently long while. Can’t recall when I got it, but I think at least a year so far. Course, now I gotta solder back the disconnected -ve lead before it is usable. I held it to the contact and it still turns on fine.
I Ordered the clamp on model thru WM.com. $35.90 with tax. I have a new spring and seal I got from Mike FDA for my Blackhawk which has a burnt seal and spring broke at the 2 rear coil. I am glad I hadn’t gotten around to fixing it yet. Now I can do a before and after velocity string. Thanks again guys.
