What DAR Rifle Recall Option did you choose ?

I'm just curious,
 For those of us who originally purchased these rifles, and with the recent announcement by Dynamic Air Rifles (DAR) for the full recall of the "Gen 1" rifles,
   Which one (of the 2 recall options) did you choose ?

 Option 1- Request a RMA from Sportsmans Guide, and send your gun(s) back to Sportsmans Guide, (by December 1, 2018), for
    a full refund .
      OR, ...
 Option 2- Request a RMA from DAR, and send the gun(s) back to DAR, (by December 1, 2018), to be put on a list for a
    the upgraded replacement gun(s) once they arrive from the manufacturer. (at the promised No Additional Cost).

 My group of shooting buddies and I chose Option 2.
  (we purchased 5 of them in .25 cal), when they were first offered for sale by SG.

I contacted Aim direct since SG didn't offer these options when I returned mine. Fortunately, Aim is taking care of me, so I requested Option 2 on the .25 and took Option 1 for the .177.

There were some manufacturing QC issues that became quickly apparent shortly after the DAR guns were released for sale.
  Once it was determined the QC issues were affecting the overall majority of the rifles that were sold, the Manufacturer stepped up to the plate almost immediately and issued a full 100% recall, (including return shipping costs).
 That recall provides owners 2 options as stated in my original post.

 Sportsmans Guide has, (or is in the process),of notifying those people who had originally purchased the "Gen 1" guns.

This is the Recall Letter that was issued by DAR,

Dear DAR customer,

   We would like to once again apologize to those customers who purchased our Gen 1 Air Rifles. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen issues with our first production model we felt the responsible thing to do was a complete recall and subsequent redesign to correct the problems that plagued these rifles. Rest assured that our number one goal at DAR, is to provide superior performance and value in both our products and customer service. As stated in our initial recall letter the issues that plagued the 1st. Gen. rifles were air retention related only and did not affect the safety function of the guns in any way.
For those customers who have not yet availed themselves of the recall of all DAR Gen 1 Air Rifles (Calibers .177 .22 and .25) that were manufactured before September 2018, it is imperative that if you wish to do so you act now as the following two options are only available until Dec. 1st, 2018:
1. Full Refund - Contact the Authorized DAR Air Rifle Dealer that you purchased the rifle from, Sportsman’s Guide, for return instructions and a subsequent full refund. Please contact them as soon as possible to initiate the refund process to ensure that the transaction is completed before the Dec. 1st deadline.
2. "Trade-in Program"- DAR will work directly with you to take back your current Gen 1 model. Once we receive your rifle you will be put on a list for a replacement out of the first units of our new and improved 2nd Gen. models for the caliber (s) you traded-in. We anticipate that these new models will become available in the 1st quarter of 2019. This trade-up carries no additional cost to you. To take advantage of this option contact us at:  RMA@aimsportsinc.com as soon as possible. To speed up the process, please be sure to include the following information in your initial email: Full Name, mailing address, contact E-mail, Phone number, Caliber and the serial number of your current 1st Gen. Air Rifle(s).
Please note: All rifles returned must be in the original condition (no modifications or alterations) with all the original parts and accessories included at time of purchase and must be postmarked before December 1st, 2018. As stated above this recall program is only valid until December 1st, 2018.
For the customer's who choose to keep their 1st Gen rifle(s) and continue to use and tinker with them please be advised that due to the recall all Gen I parts are no longer available. However, there will be New magazines for the 1st Gen. models available in the 1st quarter of 2019.
Once again we truly apologize for any inconveniences that you may have experienced and assure you that we are committed to providing you, our valued customer, the highest level of product, safety and service possible.

I took Option #1 and sent back all three calibers that I bought.

My thoughts are that if and when the Gen 2 models come out, and spare magazines and parts are readily available, I will consider repurchasing them at that time - and probably will. I can't see the logic in gambling that the Gen 2 models will ever come out, as there really isn't any guarantee that they will? Option #2 simply doesn't make any sense at all to me?

I now have every dollar back that I initially spent for the guns and am only out my time, disappointment, and dreams of getting good Gen 1 guns in the first place. The three scopes and rings that I bought for the DAR's have already gone to other guns.

The refunded money has gone to purchase two Kral Mega Punchers and a BSA Buccaneer, all at bargain prices from AGD & PA. That refund cash helped me to not lose those sale purchases. If I had chosen Option #2, I would now have no guns and only a promise to send me 3 Gen 2 DAR's, when and if they ever become reality?

I guess I chose option three. I kept my gen 1 25.Been shooting great until last week. Will be digging into it again. This is the end of the first quarter of 2019. Any word on when gen 2 will be for sale?

Hmmm.  This makes me WANT to buy a DAR.   A recall notification like this says a lot about a company's commitment.

If I had one, I'd choose RMA Option 2 and deal directly with DAR.  I abhor middleman warranty work.

Peter it sure would be handy to know which Chinese factory manufactured the DAR's because there just might be a slim chance that a person could order parts direct from them like we can direct from SPA.  I haven't ordered anything direct from SPA in quite some time now but I'm sure they'd still do it.

Took my 25 apart today and couldn’t find an obvious problem. Put it back together and got this shoot string. Anyone have an idea about the farts?

I ordered some things from SPA right after New Years- everything got here fine.  Xulhi (Julie) followed up to make sure I got everything a-okay.

have you taken it apart and cleaned and replaced the O'rings ?

Have not taken the regulator apart. Will be doing it now. Will be the first time taking one apart. Have replaced the out side orings before. Is it difficult to disassemble?

i haven't seen their proprietary internal regulator so do not know what is involved
but clean it first before you even think of taking it apart
and if you take it apart? take plenty of picts and make notes to make sure it goes back the same
dirty regulators can become sticky from moisture or even fine dust in the air from the source

Ok guys, here's what I know so far.
China has been very slow to get the Gen 2 out.
Various reasons have contributed to this.

It is going to be later than DAR expected
which is not what what DAR or we, wanted to hear.
BUT,
The Gen 2 IS going to happen.

A few days ago, I received the first prototype of the Gen 2 in .25 cal. I hope to be testing It this afternoon at my  permission.

 It appears to be greatly improved over the Gen 1 and has most (if not all) of the changes I requested to be made.

 The Monoblock now has the standard sized dovetail so that typical scope rings will tighten correctly without the need to modify the rings.

 The side lever cocking handle fits the monoblock much better with FAR LESS wobble. It feels much better now. (No it is not as sweet as a FX or Evanix, ... But it is not a $1000+ gun either).

 The bolt probe is now stainless steel (?) rather than brass, so there should be no more problems with bent probe tips.

 The Orings seem to be holding pressure at an acceptable level and do not appear to have any of that Teflon tape (?) wrapped in the Oring grooves. Hopefully it will continue to hold pressure and not have an unacceptable leak rate.

The pressure regulator has been changed to a completely different type to hopefully provide better consistency and lower ES.

The magazine is a different design that is more similar to a Evanix mag, rather than a Mrod type mag. It looks more sturdy and appears it will hold up better than the original mags that had a few issues with cracks developing in the clear covers.

I will let you know how it shoots within the next couple of days.

I do not know when the production guns will be available for retail sales, but hopefully their arrival will not be too terribly far in the future.

 At this time, he does not know when the Gen 2 guns, (OR the Gen 2 magazines), will be available for sale. These are things that simply are not in his control.
 So if you do contact him, and ask "When can I get more mags ?" or "When will the Gen 2 be available ?", or anything else that starts with "When ...?"
Then don't be disappointed or negative when he tells you that he does not know.
The man is just being honest with you. It is my understanding that a few people have been less than "pleasant" to deal with over this unfortunate issue with the Gen 1 guns, and there are even a couple of people who tried to take advantage of this by returning guns that were incomplete !
One guy even sent a gun back without the stock ! Another guy sent a gun back that looked like it was intentionally damaged.

It amazes me how some folks are so inconsiderate or will try to take advantage like that, even in a situation where the manufacturer stepped up to the plate, offered a total 100% recall, INCLUDING THE SHIPPING COSTS.
Simply amazing to me that people will do things like that.

I can not recall ANY TIME in the past,
OR,
ANY OTHER Manufacturer or Supplier
That has stepped up like DAR has.

I look forward to testing this first Gen 2 prototype, and I look forward to seeing future products coming from DAR. I feel they are a Stand up company that backs up their product.
What more could you ask for ?

Ralph has assured me that the customers who chose option 2 of the recall, Will be the first to know, when the Gen 2 guns (and the Gen 2 magazines) will be available for purchase.

So thats all I know for now.
