A very generous member, splitbeing gifted me a CMP Daisy 853 that was just "laying around" and it arrivedyesterday evening at 8:35pm.I think this is an early model because the stock is not the same as the ones I had for Daisy Prime my first one and FrankenDaisy which I ordered from Daisy. This one is slimmer and the grip is smaller in dia. and I like the way it fits in my hands. Its a little on the rough side and will need some TLC but I like that about it too. It's missing the fillers for the side of the barrel.Chip in the trigger area. These are the FPS readings, averaging 437.7Ron
I like the handling of the sporter stock. Sometimes those CMPs come pretty used, other times like new. It's a roll of the dice and I like that they're honest about that. Looking forward to your improvements, Ron. You're the current 853 author of note it seems!
When it gets dark here in the back woods of Lower Alabama it gets pitch black dark. Betty Lou and I just went out to check out the newly installed halogen lights on the North Range. Comfortably seated at the shooting bench on the deck I flipped the switch.. the range lit up and we could see every target all the way out to 45 yds. From late Fall to early Spring it gets dark earlier and earlier until it's dark at 5:30 in the evening. These lights are going to be great during that time. Now we can shoot later at night and avoid the heat of the day.
Adventures in HPA compressors...Among the normal carousel of insanity that runs through my head on an infinite loop was the crazy notion to adapt the autostop system out of the MRodAir MKII compressor to the Vevor (YH knockoff).I dragged the MKII out from under the workbench in the casting shed and began looking at the possibilities. Just for yahoos I decided to give the MKII one more chance at life before subjecting it to my madness. I hooked up the water and put a dead head in the hose. But wait... a memory flashed before my eyes.. I remember one time some years back I had overfilled the oil and filled the room with a thick cloud of oil vapor. I had a feeling there was a oil/water separator tampon in that bleed block. I don't remember ever looking at it.So I broke out the wrenches and took it apart.Sure enough, there was a wad of something that may have been a tampon at on time. There were also drying beads... nasty. It was all held in from the bottom by one of those brass air stone things. I couldn't even blow air through it.So I dug all that out and cleaned it up. I didn't replace any of it because I always use an inline filter.I dragged the hole shebang to the Red Shed and found it a home. Under better lighting I noticed I had the autostop set at 4k instead of where I thought it was at 3k. Well yeah dummy, that would take a bit longer to reach. The Xisico Sentry happened to be close by and was down to just under 2k. I plugged it in and pressed play. In just under 30 seconds ole Big Red shut off. Temp was at 35C up from ambient 29C.I think I'll let Big Red live a little longer.
