Despite significant searching, I could not locate the little yellow chicken that flew off into the wild blue yonder yesterday, so today I purchased another complete set of metal silhouette targets to replace it. Now I have one chicken, two rams, two turkeys, and two anteaters.

Some people tether the critters so they don't escape.  I've got a rolling shop magnet for finding the ones that hide.  I consider it unethical to shoot barnyard animals so I prefer to think of them as game animals. So, a duck, turkey, hog, and ram are all game animals and therefore ethical to shoot.

The tether is a good idea. I went looking for a cheap metal detector, but couldn't find one at Wally World. So, ethical or not, I created a barnyard for them out of a big cardboard box.

Out of curiosity, I took out a BAM XS B26-2 (which, as you probably already know, is a Chinese clone of the HW95), to see if it could hit these innocent and trapped steel barnyard animals just as easily.

My judgment isn't always the most sound, but that B26 made short work of the poor critters, and with less vibration during the shot cycle than the German-made original. This is an un-tuned gun, and it was great right out of the box. Mike at FD gave me some advice on how to adjust the trigger, so it would feel more like a "real" Rekord, but I liked it the way it was, and have made no mods to the rifle other than adding the scope.

Just to make y'all jealous, I bought two of these beauties at somewhere around $100 each. If Mike was still selling them, I probably would have bought even more. Yes, I know. I am an airgun addict, but I haven't purchased another airgun in at least three months, so that should count for something.

The only minor difference that I would have like to have seen is some wood carved out of the high comb of the thumbhole stock. I can manage getting a good view through the scope, but I do have to place my head in precisely the right position for every shot. I know that some people have re-worked the stock to make the gun easier to shoot, but I don't have that kind of skill, and would rather keep the gun "as-is" anyway.

In any case, it may not be a real HW95, but it's darn good anyway.

And, no, I don't feel any guilt in blasting those yellow-painted metal critters to the back of their barn. In fact, I rather enjoyed it!

Thats why all my targets hang on my shooting gallery. No retreaving or reseting needed, which leaves more time for plinking, as I proved while practicing my off handed shooting with my beeman sportsman with custom hard sights. I was smacking those little targets around pretty good at 10 m.

Kim and I dropped a couple of guns off at Veradium Air. Visited for awhile and looked at some of Brian’s current stuff and some things he’s working on. I love talking on any subject to people that know their stuff and man, does he know airguns. Edited my Christmas list ha ha.

I stared at my Leshiy and a pile of slugs, then looked at my Hatsan 95QE which needs the vortex thingy recharged and resealed.

I can see my Medalist (1322 rear-cocker) and the 2400KT... I foresee these two getting use later today.

Cleaned the beeman sportsman, Gamo Whisper and the Crosman 760. While doing so, I found the can of red spray paint I've been looking for, for weeks. It was in the bottom of my gun cabinet. So I went out and refreshed the paint on my shooting gallery targets. Didn't get a chance to test them, as work was calling me back inside.

Earlier I took out my converted Umarex Fusion 2 (HPA), but with mixed results. The crossman hollow points were all over the place at 10m. I plan on cleaning tomorrow and use some crosman domes to hopefully clear up the scatter shot I'm getting.

The Royale sprung a leak a little while back.  I also had a shorter barrel machined that I never finished.  Today I started the reseal and bluing the barrel.  I'm taking my time.

I took out my AEA .50 challenger and my .30 assassin (what they used to call it) to my friends place to shot. At 60yds the .50 is dead nuts on and the .30 was pretty good too at 60 yds although nut as good as the .50 but I think I can get it better. I had absolutely no problems with the semi auto .30 and I shot 4 magazines thru it. I am happy!

Cleaned the modified Umarex Fusion 2 (HPA) and tgen took it out for some more testing. It wasn't as dirty as I thought it would be. I also figured out why my shots were so wide last time. I was shooting prone with a bipod and one of the legs was in a slight divot, throwing off my aim a bit. Once I fixed that, i was making quarter sized groups. I think I can do better if I can get a decent AO scope mounted on it.

I shot it down from 3ksi to 1ksi and it took around 100 rounds to do it and I still didn't notice any droping.

Inevitably, today I returned to that red-headed stepchild of an air rifle, the Hatsan 95 Vortex in .22-caliber. It is definitely an airgun that is the luck of the draw in terms of QC, but those five out six good ones that the factory ships out are accurate powerhouses with beautiful walnut stocks, a strong, but vibration-free, firing behavior, and a fine adjustable trigger that has a wonderfully short, crisp, and predictable second stage when used correctly. At around $160, I still think it's one of the best "bang for your buck" airguns out there.

Are you guys using the blueing compounds to touch up a part or reblue the entire part?   I've got a number of items that have some minor wear finish loss.

Entire part.  I have also used it on tools (like handles and knobs) to make them like new.

I put a 1720T hammer in my new to me disco and put the spring that came with it back in. Seems to be cocking a lot smoother now. Still need to get the tp situation figure out. Then I installed a buffer tube adapter that I got from Wes on my PP750 and installed a sb tactical folding adapter and pistol stock on it. I really like the look and feel now.
