I snuck out to the woods after the bird was served packing my Striker and some twenty six grain Vortex pellets .  Just before dark a squirrel started scolding me from about fifty yards away.  I crept around in a holly thicket trying to be quiet and inconspicuous.  It was a big dumb chatterbox and I kept track of it by its madly waving tail.  It was getting too dark to shoot but I finally found a position about twenty five yards from the squirrel with the critter nicely silhouetted against the evening sky.  Using a tree for support I got a solid bead but the pellet was really going to have to thread the needle through a tangle of twigs and fox grape vines.  I touched her off and listened to the disappointing sound of the pellet clipping through the leaves before burying itself in a distant tree trunk.  The squirrel disappeared and the evening was getting dark so as they say in the local argot I "took it back to the truck".

Did a little plinking with my Liberty shooting some 30 grain BBT that I cast. I was trying to get my rifle sighted in after taking the scope off. Finally hit a mountain dew bottle I'd filled with water. That was at 40 yards. Hope to have time to put my target out tommarrow and get my rifle totally zeroed.

Spent a couple hours shooting my Chinese side levers Qb58 and BAM21 at 20 meters. Each rifle is able to hold touching groups with cheap H&N Hammer Dome pellets, I'd say I lucked out.

It wasn't cold but it was damp and so foggy that one could hardly see across the backyard.  Even so. I took my peep sighted Beeman R9 out back and shot a few spinner spoons.  Love that fraulein!

Came back in and watched Iowa State prevail over Texas  and ND prevail over NC. 

What'd y'all do?

I would have shot my RWS 460 but it was raining and the FedEx driver didn't want to get his feet wet so he lied and claimed that he made an attempt at 7:20pm but no one was home.

LOL, you know how you sometime just kinda scan a sentence without actually reading it? Well I just read, "Shot the neighbors chicken"!  I did a double take then laughed out loud. 

I think I need to go to bed.

I don’t mind sharing the not so great shot groups and not just brag on the stellar shot groups. Just keeping it honest, still got to shoot and it was still fun. Before lunch yesterday (a couple turkey sandwiches), I had 5 pretty decent 3-shot groups going with the LGU at 30 meters. Wound up taking a nap and afterwards I then sent 2 more JSBs at each group & it is what it is. Of course it was me, I couldn’t get completely comfortable, but I still got to shoot. Maybe later I’ll mark the existing shot holes and send 5 more at each for ten shot groups.

Thanks Brett. I used to say a bad fishing/hunting is better than a good day working. As for airgunning, I think it’s a better attitude to say: there are no bad days airgunning!

Daystate Huntsman (40 shots--loading up the 5th wheel now at 200 BAR!), HW95 .177, HW35 E Silver .177, HW35E Blue .177, HW98 .20.

I find ALL of these rifles ON TARGET at 30 yards and the HW98 and Huntsman are the only ones SCOPED!

30 meters? Not bad John. Maybe not your best but I wouldn't be ashamed of those.

Just wait until you see my initial targets with my 460. I expect untill I get familiar with the rifle they're going to be horrible.

Another day that I escaped from the penalty box at 4:00!  Everything was in the truck so I headed straight to the woods after work.  I'm working my way through my gun rack, top to bottom this hunting season.  The next on the rotation was the RIM.  Funny to think this is the first air rifle I bought when I got back into airgunning three years ago.  I parked the truck off Curtis Mill road and hiked back into the hammock a ways.  I found a nice spot with lots of pignut hickory and sweet gum.  I unslung my pack, opened my campstool and sat down.  I loaded a pipe, blew smoke four ways, and asked the winds to favor me.  I had my arrow power hat band on and I sang my hunting song as I slipped a mojo pellet into the breech of my rifle.  It was a beautiful afternoon about 70 degrees with a light SW breeze.  I was watching a big beech tree that had come down in Michael.  It lay across Cow creek slough and a well worn path showed that it was a principle crossing spot for the forest dwellers.  I could hear plenty of birds and once a great crash like a big branch coming down somewhere back in the hammock.  But no squirrels.  I sat perfectly still for almost an hour. I watched an egret hunting frogs along the edge of the slough till just before dark.  Reluctantly, I got ready to leave.  I picked a target to empty the gun and aimed at a branch on a log twenty yards away.  A complete miss, nothing but air.  That was my one shot of the day and it was a total waste.  But my hour in the woods wasn't.
