Missed?  2 tree rats today...

I don't know what is going on.  I went from head shots at 25 yards on Chipmunks to missing Squirrels at less distance.   POI shift for sure, but I am not certain why.

And, because of the "bad" neighbors (the ones I am certain burgled me) I can't shoot much nor even mount my new Athlon 8-34X56 scope and test it.  (heavy sigh)

Not to mention, the Athlon can only focus down to 15 yards (and it may not focus THAT close), so I can't even test it on my indoor "range" which is only 10 meters.

Oh well...   I'll figure it out eventually.  (smile)

At least you got to attempt a shot! I've got one in my yard so cagey that I can't even unlatch the deadbolt without spooking it.  But, I'm patient!!!!!!!!!!!

And, Kerry--sorry to hear that it was one of those kind of shooting days when there's a miss, a scope shift, a blurry scope because the distance range can't track, etc.  Tomorrow is a whole new experience; we can only hope!

Scope was not blurry and I had rechecked zero just a couple of days ago, after I missed 2 shots then... probably the same squirrels.

I think I need to take the shroud off and check the screws for the shroud/barrel supports.   I never really did that once I started getting consistent head shots.

Frustrating, but I will eventually figure it out.   



Update:

Just checked "zero" by shooting the golf balls that I leave at 25 yards in my back yard.   Under weak flood lights.

Missed right and missed left, then dead center.   So it was ALL just ME and NOT the gun.  Once again...  (heavy sigh...)

Shot the 2400KT with some RWS Meisterkugeln wadcutters.  Cut down a rotten branch some more

Then I had a visitor of the 4-legged busy-tail kind... put some holes in a squirrel's skull.  The first one to kill it and the others to measure penetration. 

3/4 inch penetration passing through the bridge of the nose at a 15 degree angle downward @ 19 yards.  Yes, the little critter was staring at me.

Just superb shooting. I've got a 2400KT on the way. I can't wait to try it out.

19 yards...that sound far enough for a pistol; but, I guess the 2400 and select others are capable of that and maybe a tad more.

How far would you have confidence to shoot a squirrel humanely with the 2400KT?

Thank you, Archi- I've taken 2 squirrels at 23 yards with surgical precision.  This is one airgun that just continuously puts a smile on my face.  Most are taken at 19, and a few (the family-pole tree-rats) usually even closer.

It wears a cheap Simmons 4x fixed scope, but the scope is robust and has clear glass.  There's a bunch of pellets that work well in it, including Sniper Lights, but in .22 and on CO2, sthe Mediums and Heavies are a little loopy.  Gamo RedFires work well, as do Polymags, but the RWS wadcutters are cheaper and the most accurate at my short ranges, so it's what I shoot most.  I have a 1/4" POI shift swapping from RWS Meisterkugeln WC to the Sig wadcutters, but same POI with looser group using H&N Excite WC.

I shot the whole day moving furniture for my idiot brothers.  75 minute drive to the condo where we were supposed to meet at 7am. They show up at 8. 230 we finished moving older bro stuff, now we need to move younger bro stuff.  Then it's at least 90 minutes home with friday traffic.


If I'm lucky I'll be home by 7.

Spent some time this morning working on my Benji Titan. It is an ill behaved beast

I found that the stock screw had worked it's way all the way through the plastic trigger guard leaving a big hole  I assume from being tightened all the time. I have a new guard on order, this time I will back the screw with a washer. Anyhow I think the screw had bottomed out and was tight but not actually holding pulling in the action tight.

Then I found that the head of the stock screw was stripped out. I had to drill off the head and extract it with some vise grips. Off to ACE I go to get new screws and washers.

Replaced those this time making sure the stock screw was actually pulling in the action. It did.

Things improved... for about 10 shots then it started wandering all over the place. Tightened the stock screw some more. No real change. I dont want ot over tighten it for fear of crushing the wood. I might reinforce that with some JB weld this evening.

Anyhow got fed up with the wandering and tried some JSB Jumbos. They did okay but it was still wandering. Put 2 or 3 on target then it starts shooting high and right. Several clicks on the scope and 2 or 3 on target, then it starts wandering low and left 

I decided to take a break from the heat and come in and dress the crown and lead, then clean the barrel to get rid of the polishing paste.

It probably wont help but I get to cool off a little

It's 15 feet, could go up in the attic and shoot further, maybe I'll try that sometime.  I can stretch things out to 30 feet up there.  It's really hot up there without AC though so co2 would probably do really good.

I shot the Wildcat MK1.  Took it down to clean up and tweak the regulator.  I am pretty sure it’s a creeper.  Not sure what to do to remedy it but I will attempt something before I throw any more dollars at it.  Never know, I may just stumble onto something useful.
