So.....what did you shoot today?

The Beeman P3 I ordered arrived today. I put the pellet trap 33 ft away and, not surprisingly, results were disappointing. First I shot the remaining 20 not-so-good Daisy pointed pellets that were the first kind I had bought, back in March. Then I shot 5 out of the new tin of RWS R10 7 grain WC that I ordered with the gun. Should have bought a tin of cheaper WC for this initial period. Oh, well. I ended up moving closer to the target.

It would probably help if I made a makeshift bench and zeroed the new gun. I just wanted to see what the gun felt like as is. Trigger is wonderful, a real treat! Closing the top to cock the gun, NOT a treat. Really hard. I had read about this earlier. The sharp edges of the top rail are nasty. I had read about that, too.

Because I shoot handguns either left-handed or right-handed, I decided to cock the gun both ways. That meant my hands and arms took turns with the cocking. Yes, I alternated which leg to brace it off of when cocking.

After I get used to it and zero it, this should be a nice way to practice pistol shooting—including indoors—without needing to travel to a firearms range. I’ve been averaging 3x a week practice with the 880, but winter will be here soon.

That makes two airguns so far, plus one PB handgun. I swore I would only have one gun...

So far, I've shot AT some 30 yard target with my scoped HW50S.  The operative word is AT.  Last week, using the same gun, I put 5 pellets into virtually the same hole at 30 yards. Today, I put 5 pellets in the target.

The temperature drop sure is nice, Charles. I’m sure we’ll need long sleeves today and probably a sweater, maybe a coat or a jacket.

WOW..  I was sweating by 9:30 am this morning running the chainsaw and stacking logs on the woodpile. I went out at 6:30 in a tee shirt. I had to set my chair in the shade when I took water breaks. By 11:30 I was wrapping up and came in to cool down by the ac. I'll most likely go back out but it won't be to work. Maybe put sports on the Red Shed TV and shoot some.

I took my peep sighted HW50S out to shoot some spoons at halftime and couldn't hit doodley.  It is about 20-30° cooler than usual with more breeze than normal.

Speaking of normal, this is the first time in sometime that I've worn long sleeves and long britches.

I set up a makeshift bench rest and shot from that with the P3. 40 shots, starting at 15’, then 21’, then 33’. (I hate bench shooting!)

Much to my delight, even though all the shots were too high, windage was good. Got many in the same hole at 15’ both LH and RH. Still held pretty good at 21’, and then at 33’ the spread happened. I slightly lowered the elevation for 33’ and it was still shooting high.

I will leave the gun at that setting and repeat the trials next time, also with the bench.

My right eye is usually not as good as my left one. Unfortunately, I am right-eye-dominant.

The good news was that I got the hang of cocking the beast. If I can dial in the sights, as well as my hold, it’s going to be a sweet target practice pistol. A keeper.

I shot the FWB Sport a bunch. Smacking steel at 30 meters. I brought out a 5 spot paper target and shot 5 10-shot groups, fine tuning the sight in too. Must’ve put nearly a hundred AA domes down range and that sure felt good. Just wish my little shooting partner would’ve joined me. She wasn’t feeling so good and it was a bit chilly out, at the time. Hopefully, over the next 4 days, she’ll feel up to it.

FWB 124 was already out this morning. Couldn’t resist it. Started day by standing at 30 yards and wearing a can out. It’s so easy to shoot. Drove to Corpus, got back early evening. Grabbed HW45 and Hatsan 135 Vortex that I hadn’t shot lately. The Hatsan makes cans jump!

I took my peep-sighted 50S out again this morning and sighted her in.  For some mysterious reason, she was shooting ~1.5" high at 25 yards but the windage was dead on.  After the resighting, she was good on the 25 and 30-yard spoons.  Yesterday, it was apparently the gun, not the shooter, hehe.

Today I shot my Walther Terrus, RWS 3400 and DPMS Panther A4 Classic, all .177s. Just a click up or right and they were all spot on at my 30 meter steel targets. I’m getting back into the groove.

So far, I’ve shot my Walther LGU Varmint .22, might just shoot this one only, all day, throughout the day. Changed up the targets on my 30 meter box a little while repainting some targets. First shot was 1-2 o’clock on the lime green target, just outside the bullseye. Next 3 we’re touching inside the bull. The other shots in the black are old, I don’t usually repaint the background, just the stenciled bright colors. Then I shot the auto reset spinners. Tried to reset them with a headshot, got him in the neck.

Started out today shooting my Benjamin 445 0f 500 model 392 PA in .22 caliber and finished out the shoot session shooting my beloved HW30S in .22 caliber.  A great hour and half on a nice pleasant  fall day.  Charles

I've been having fun shooting my .25 caliber Hatsan mod 125 lately.  I'm getting ready for hunting season and I have constructed an "estimated distance range"  on my permission.  It's a dozen 4"-5" gongs hung from trees scattered around the pasture and woods.  There are plenty of squirrel sized pinecones (Loblolly Pine) and rabbit sized (Long Leaf Pine).  I wander through my permission potting pinecones and gongs from various ranges and angles.  I started off this a.m. with the mod 125. After a session blasting loblolly pinecones at 55-65 yards I wandered back to one of the  fish ponds and tried some 35-40 yard shots at floating leaves, gongs, and more pinecones.  After lunch I took a refresher course with the Crosman 362 and opened an fresh tin of Piranhas.  UH OH!  You know how sometimes a fresh tin of Crosman pellets needs a re-zero?  Got the C362 shooting good again and decided to run through some quick drills with the sawed off Crosman Fire with the same Piranhas.  The first three shots out of this laser accurate gun were no where near target.  I checked the zero against floating leaves and found it was hitting very consistently an inch to the right of POA.  A quick adjustment of the azimuth turret and it was hitting dangling sweetgum balls at thirty yards again.

These are the three guns I expect to get the most use out of this hunting season and I'm ready for the season to start.

I sighted in the scope I got this spring from optics planet a viridian tactical 3x12x42 on my 30 cal std challenger at 50 yards. Trying to figure out a fill pressure for one good mag accuracy wise. I was starting as close as I could get it to 3450 because the last time I chronied it the third or fourth shot was in the 915-925 fps range and that was a full 3600-50 ish fill. My final test was four half filled water bottles and five shots at a Caldwell sight in target from Walmart. Smoked every water bottle and two bullseyes almost same hole and three to the left one slightly higher one about level with the bull and one just a little low. I'm pretty happy with how it did. I decided the vinyl can wait for this winter when it's too cold to shoot. I want to shoot it some this fall before I mess with it again.
