Why expensive shipping on pellets ?

I bought a nice QB78 back in March and the shipping was about $7.  Having a great time with it so last week I ordered four tins of hopefully better pellets.  The shipping was $13.58.  They arrived today and the package weighed less than 3 pounds.  That's over $3 shipping per tin. I called and the girl basically said, "... have a nice day ..."  I'm really curious about any possible explanation from anyone.  Attached is a crop of the confirming order email.

I just avoid any place that overcharges for shipping/handling. They can charge whatever they want but you can choose where you shop. I buy most of my pellets through Walmart.com and pyramidair.

I basically do the same thing.  Actually Googled around before clicking the order, but didn't really find the "Hobby" pellets, and read a lot of good comments, so I clicked the order.  2000 pellets will last me awhile.  You are right though, Walmart is good enough for me.

It could be as an enticement to spend the minimum amount to get free shipping. But if you're paying that much for shipping, it sounds like you got them shipped "ground" instead of "no hassle" or "smart post". Or you bought them from someplace other than PA or AD.

FWIW I'm a WM onliner too, at least sometimes. I'll usually price them at PA and AD to see if the 'buy 3 get 4th free' deal makes them cheaper, but it seldom does. It does mean I have to drive to WM, though. But it's easy to combine the trip w/other needs from WM or places along the way to there.

Question- Why does the invoice say "6.9 gr" when the RWS Hobby tin says "7.0" gr? Not a big deal, but odd...

I asked the same question to UPS awhile back because like yourself I'm taken back by shipping rates. After reading the reply from UPS I was left just as bewildered about shipping rates as I was before I asked the question.
When shipping rates went through the roof because of gas prices(see chart) shippers passed the cost on to the consumers. Now that gasoline is at an all time low the price for shipping never came down. When I posed the question to UPS they said there was no simple answer because shipping cost are not tied only to the price of gas/oil. It's complicated........oh ok. But it's not complicated to raise the cost of shipping when the price of gas goes up but it's complicated to lower the price when the price of gas goes down.

I wait till Black Friday / Cyber Monday and buy bulk 25% off at Pyramyd (which is still buy 3 get 1 free on top of that). Pretty sure it's the least expensive way to buy good pellets besides Crosman which we all know are already inexpensive.

I go to Walmart for motor oil, silicone, spray paint and coffee cream- but generally don't like buying anything related to guns, boats, or guitars from places that don't specialize in them..

$7 for shipping on an air rifle is a discounted rate. I had to ship a rifle in for warranty repair and it cost me nearly $50 via USPS fron NH to Arkansas.

I only buy online pellets from Pyramyd Air and Airgun Depot. With the buy 3get1 free, it essentially offsets the shipping cost. Plus, a larger order, usually over $150 will yield free shipping. But the biggest reason,  I buy pellets from these 2 businesses is because of how well they pack their pellets for shipping.

I always find plenty of good buys on guns and hunting products at Walmart. I always check there first. And of course,  I typically end up stock piling on bargain  priced end of season clearance stuff.

I had to pay 16 bucks to ship my straight shooters pellet sampler. When I asked them to ship it usps nstead, they said they wouldn't because they see too many damaged pellets using usps.

I recently bought 4000 .177 hobby pellets on Walmart.com for $6.85 after tax a tin delivered. They sell a lot of other pellets other than crosman pellets online. Basics are still $4.59 before tax a tin last time I checked, so far I've accumulated 8K. Shipping is free after $35, ship to store is free for any dollar amount. They discount different pellets freqeuntly so I check every time I get a chance.

I absolutely detest going in Walfart, all my pellets come from PA, cheaper than Walfart and any pellet I want delivered in good shape.

As I already stated, you got a big discount on shipping on that rifle. There's no way you can ship that rifle anywhere for $8. Its easy to find out, if you think you're overcharged. Just take the exact packaging to the delivery service and ask them to give you a quote on the cost to ship it back to the sender.

I don't think anyone believes anything is FREE....its all worked in, so the business still ends up with a profit. Just like products that goes "on sale"......the consumer is not getting it at cost. However, "FREE" delivery is a good incentive over having to pay full price on shipping.

These are businesses that exists to make a profit, for peoples' livelihood. Boxes, packing materials, shipping labels/invoices, and employees.....all cost money. So, its not just paying the delivery service rate......its shipping and handling.

Businesses have to make a profit to keep their doors open but making Sales promotions and sticking it to you on the shipping is a dirty tactic, but of course it's a computer that's handling your order not a person.... Computer only does what it's told to do.
