Good evening everyone,
This is just a reminder that the next FT match at ASC will be Saturday, March 24. Come on out for a 50-60-shot match on 10 lanes in the woods placed from 10-55 yards. We’ll have 3 targets on most lanes and will use the archery tower again this time, so continue practicing your offhand shooting in the wind. As always, we will have water and a community air tank. The only reason I will cancel the match is if it rains or snows on the day of the match; I will keep an eye on it. I will send out an email to everyone if that happens.
Come out and join us. Gates will open at 8:00 for sight in and sign up. Safety meeting at 9:15. Rifle match to start at 9:30.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes. Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.
Members $5, non-Members $10
Please let me know if you plan to attend
Arlington Sportsman’s Club is located at: 11500 County Road 525, Mansfield, TX 76063 (Also called Lillian Road)
If you are free on Friday around noon, I would appreciate any help to setup the targets on the course. Helping setup could earn you a free entry for this match.

The Arlington Sportsman’s Club held our monthly Field Target rifle match this weekend. This is the nice weather season in Texas, and the 15 shooters that showed up were rewarded with warm temps and a nice breeze for the match.
Thanks to all of you who attended today.
The match was 60 shots over 11 lanes today, including 2 standing lanes (one on the archery tower, the nemesis of many shooters). We recently ordered and received 8 new targets from Rhino Target company and put them to use immediately. Thanks to Terry, Jim, Chris, and Jerry who helped setup the course, and thanks to everyone else who got it all taken down and put away quickly. The Troyer rating was 30.4, with an SD of 6.05, average KZ 1.14 inches, and an average target distance of 31.5 yards, including 37% of the targets beyond 40 yards. No one cleaned the course this month, but Mike Vredenburg came "dang" close.
We had a quick shooters safety meeting, squadded the guys together, and got started on time.
We had only one new shooter today, Vance Lowe shooting Open PCP, and with a score like his I officially took him off the rookie list by the end of the match. Vance said he has been shooting Precision Rifle and that skill seems to have transferred very well to Field Target. All of you Open PCP guys better look out for Vance. For all of you that couldn’t make it out, you missed a great match in great weather with a bunch of great guys. (That’s Great
3
) I really encourage you to come back out when you can, and to anyone who hasn’t ever shot Field Target, this is my open invitation to try it. Don’t worry if you don’t have a suitable air rifle yet, we can pair you up with someone to share a rifle with, or we can loan you a rifle for the match. You really have no excuses not to come out and try this.
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and there were good comments about the course layout; we didn’t have any cold lines which is always nice. At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores with Mike Vredenburg posting the match high score of 58/60 in Open PCP. First place in Hunter PCP was Bob Dye with 55/60, first place in Hunter Piston was Jim Clarke with 41/60, first place in WFTF Piston was Jeff Cloud with 53/60, and finally first place in WFTF PCP was Matt Sawyer with 46/60. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
As I always say every month, thanks to everyone who joined us at the match and also helped take down the course. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help to take down what takes me and a couple of others hours to setup. We will have our next match the 4
th
Saturday in April but be sure to attend the Dallas Field Target Club match on April 14.
See you at the next match,

Good morning everyone,
Due to match director scheduling conflicts, the May 26 FT match at ASC is CANCELED.
Our next match will be in June, and it is a special match. I invite all of you to attend the Texas Airgun Show on June 23, and then come for the FT match the next day June 24 where out-of-towners will be shooting with us.

2018 Texas Airgun Show FT Match Results

Howdy ya’ll,
The Arlington Sportsman Club (ASC) in Mansfield Texas hosted the 1
st
Annual 2018 Texas Airgun Show Field Target match this past Sunday, June 24. There were 32 competitors in all who came from 5 nearby and far-away states (AR, OK, KS, LA, and Texas. Almost 2/3 of the competitors attended the match because they came to the Texas Airgun Show the day before, but we also had about 10 regular shooters participate.
Field Target at ASC is shot on our 3D archery course setup on 15 lanes among the Mesquite and Live Oak trees on the property. Almost all of the lanes are sheltered in the trees, but a few cross an open area where the winds can swirl unpredictably, while others are quite dark. Being that we are in North Texas, the lanes are flat, so we make up for that shortcoming with a few targets in trees and also by shooting down from our elevated 12-foot archery tower. I believe the tower is one of the most popular lanes based on the number of comments I receive every time we use it. Hee Hee.
Chris and I set up the course Saturday afternoon following the airgun show; we were already tired and hot before we even got started. The course of fire would be a 60-shot rifle match with 2 targets per lane. We finished setting up about 7:30pm and headed home.
Saturday morning was normal summer time (in Texas), partly cloudy with temps in the low-80’s that climbed to the high-90’s by the afternoon, and winds that varied from 10-20mph. Everyone had time to get their rifles sighted in on our cozy sight-in range before the match started. With so many folks who had never shot at ASC before, we had a very thorough safety, rules and etiquette meeting before we paired up and started shooting on the 15 lanes at about 9:30. I grouped new shooters (rookies) with experienced shooters to guarantee the fun meter was pegged. Representatives from Hatsan and Umarex shot with us using their company’s products and did very well. I also loaned out one of the 3 club Benjamin Marauders (purchased at a discount from Crosman. Thanks!) to new shooter George Wells and he had so much fun that he promised to return next month. There were 19 Hunter PCP, 5 Hunger Piston, 1 WFTF PCP, 1 WFTF Piston, 4 Open PCP, 2 Open Piston, and 1 Fun Rifle shooters. I didn’t shoot this month, because as a good host I wanted to ensure that everything ran smoothly and all the competitors drank plenty of water. The Troyer rating for this course after adjustment for wind was 28.4T with an SD of 7.0.
It appeared that everyone enjoyed shooting our course, even though it was hot, and many of the new shooters said they will come back to shoot here in DFW, because of the 3 local N Texas clubs and/or because our venue is more enjoyable than their own (some folks only shoot in an open range at a gun club). Jason’s Deli catered lunch after the match while we enjoyed a nice respite in the shade to refuel and rehydrate before heading out to take down the course.
After lunch and after dismantling the course, I announced the top positions in each of the classes (see below). After many congratulations from all of the participants, they slowly drifted off and got on the road for their homes near and far.
The finishing positions of the 2018 Texas Airgun Show FT Match are shown at the bottom.
You can all of the photos from the Airgun Show and FT match here: (

Thanks for coming to ASC, thanks to the volunteers who helped with the match, and congratulations to everyone who participated in this match and survived the Texas heat.

Good evening everyone,
This is just a reminder that the next FT match at ASC will be Saturday, July 21. This will be round 3 of 4 as part of the Texas Grand Prix (
2018 Texas Grand Prix
). This will be a 60-shot match on 15 lanes (2 targets per lane) in the woods placed from 10-55 yards that is setup to be compliant with AAFTA rules for a GP match. As always, we will have water and a community air tank. Since the chiggers are out, please take precautions (bug spray or sulfur powder).
The only reason we will cancel the match is if it rains on the day of the match; we will keep an eye on it and will send out an email to everyone if that happens. Come out and join us.
Gates will open at 7:00 for sight in and sign up. Safety meeting at 8:45. Rifle match to start at 9:00.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.
Members $10, non-Members $15 (the extra $5 goes to pay for trophies at the end of the tournament and will be awarded at the Republic of Texas match)
Please let me know if you plan to attend

TXGP Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 07/21/2018
The 3
rd
leg of the 2018 Texas Field Target Grand Prix happened at the Arlington Sportsman’s Club this past Saturday. The only thing I can say is that the heat was oppressive, and we are on a string of 100+ days in the metroplex. The 17 shooters that showed up were die hards not wanting to miss out on a possible trophy at the end of the GP in September.
Many thanks for those of you that braved the heat to shoot with us at ASC.
Thanks to Terry, Vance, Jim, Chris and others who helped setup the course, and thanks to everyone else who got it all taken down and put away quickly. The rifle match was 60 shots over 15 lanes today, including 2 standing lanes (one on the archery tower, the nemesis of many shooters) and 1 kneeling lane. The Troyer rating was 32.3, with an SD of 6.06, average KZ 1.12 inches, and an average target distance of 32.0 yards, including 37% of the targets beyond 40 yards. No one cleaned the course this month. The pistol match was supposed to be 40 shots over 10 lanes, but the 5 shooters who were going to participate decided to postpone that match until next month, and allow me some time to come up with a creative way to get it done before the temps get too high. We had a quick shooters safety meeting, reminded everyone to drink lots of water, squadded the guys together, and got started on time @ 9:00am.
The temps weren’t too bad for the first hour or so, but by 11am we were at 100F, and we topped out at 105F when the match finished at 1pm. I believe this is the hottest temperatures we have shot in here at ASC. For all of you that couldn’t make it out, you missed a tough, competitive match in unbearable weather with a bunch of great guys. I really encourage you to come back out when the weather cools off.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores with Terry Vanpool posting the match high score of 56/60 in Hunter PCP. First place in Open PCP was Vance Lowe with 55/60, first place in Hunter Piston was Bob Pacatte by virtue of better shooting on the forced position lanes with 32/60, and first place in WFTF Piston was Jeff Cloud with 48/60. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below. I didn’t get any pictures this month, because it was too dang hot.
As I always say every month, thanks to everyone who joined us at the match and also helped take down the course. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help to take down what takes me and one other helper hours to setup. We will have our next match the 4
th
Saturday in August (25
th
) that will be a Pistol-oriented match. For you guys shooting rifles, why don’t you bring out a low-powered rifle with a low power scope or open sights so that the short course won’t seem so easy with your regular rifle? I am contemplating shooting with one of my Sheridans in Fun Rifle or perhaps one of my other lower powered springers. For the next shoot on the calendar, be sure to attend the Dallas Field Target Club match on August 11 at Elm Fork Shooting Range.
See you at the next match,

Jeff, I'm glad to hear everyone had a good time. I came up with enough excuses to stay close to home and enjoy the A/C.
I like your idea about shooting open sights or using a more basic setup. I hope to see you guys soon.

It was a great match Jeff. It was hot but I think we all mentally prepared for it and it wasn't too bad. I am looking forward to winter. Congrats on your stellar WFTF piston performance.

Good morning everyone,

This is just a reminder that the next FT match at ASC will be Saturday, September 22. This will be a 40-50 shot match because it is still so hot out, and I may add a few twists because I want to try some new things. Good afternoon everyone,
This is just a reminder that the next FT match at ASC will be this coming Saturday, December 15. The targets are all set and we are ready for you to come and shoot with us tomorrow morning. This will be a 54 shot match. We’ll have 3 targets on all lanes, but no tower lane again this time, and no standing or kneeling this time due to the mud from the rain yesterday. I have some new targets for you on a WWII-theme lane, and also 2 new targets that will really be a challenge to hit, but also satisfying if you do hit them! As always, we will have water and a community air tank.
It is not predicted to rain tomorrow, but the rain we got yesterday and today have left the shooting lanes a little wet and muddy, therefore, we will NOT have a kneeling lane (or even a standing lane) this match. Please come prepared for cold weather, because the temp is supposed to be 44F when we start at 10am, also please bring boots to combat the mud, and if you shoot from a bum bag, I suggest you wrap it in a trash bag or it will be a soggy muddy mess at the end of the match.
Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up.
Safety meeting at 9:45. Rifle match to start at 10:00.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.

The Arlington Sportsman’s Club held our monthly Field Target rifle match this weekend, the first match in a few months, because the rains have been heavy this fall and seem to occur on or just before the match leaving us no choice but to cancel; something we don’t do very often in Texas. Today dawned cold (37F) but warmed to 45F by shooting time, but the winds also picked up to about 12-15mph, and we finished the match at 62F. This is my kind of winter weather. JWe had 11 shooters today, including one new shooter, Nick Petta, who was encouraged to attend by his father-in-law Dick Spengler, an ASC club member that doesn’t shoot air rifles(!). Many thanks to Terry Vanpool for helping Nick through his first match; hopefully he will come back and encourage his father-in-law to get an air rifle too. The match was 54 shots over 9 lanes today, with no standing or kneeling lanes due to the still muddy ground. In my never-ending quest for new targets, I purchased 8 used but unique targets from Ronnie Easton and the Northern California Airgun Club. The Troyer rating was 27.2, with an SD of 8.89, average KZ 1.08 inches, and an average target distance of 29.3 yards. We had a quick shooters safety meeting, squadded the guys together, and got started on time at 10:00am.
In the spirit of having fun, I intended this to be a laid back, relaxing year-end match after the typical more challenging matches to help improve our shooting skills.
My definition of fun comprises interesting targets, or lanes with a theme, or shots with unique challenges.
This month we had the “Zombie Apocalypse” lane, the “Chip & Dale” lane (all chipmunks), the “Flock of Birds” lane, the “Bugs Bunny” lane, and finally “The Battle of the Bulge” lane.
“The Battle of the Bulge” lane was composed of 3 German tank targets from the NCAGC.
I am happy to be the new owner of these unique targets and look forward to using them for many years.
I also placed 2 unique bell targets out past 55 yards (hee hee) to challenge the shooters with something different than the usual falling target. These are also courtesy of NCAGC and Ronnie Easton. Many shooters were able to hit them at least once and ring the bell.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores with Paul Walker posting the match high score of 52/54 and first place in Hunter PCP. First place in Hunter Piston went to Jim Clarke with 42/54. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
For all of you that couldn’t make it out, you missed a great match in great weather with a bunch of great guys. I really encourage you to come back out when you can, and to anyone who hasn’t ever shot Field Target, this is my open invitation to try it. Don’t worry if you don’t have a suitable air rifle yet, we can pair you up with someone to share a rifle with, or we can loan you a rifle for the match. You really have no excuses not to come out and try this.
As I always say every month, thanks to everyone who joined us at the match and also helped take down the course. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help to take down what takes me and a couple of others hours to setup. We will have our next match the 4
th
Saturday in January.
See you at the next match,

Good evening everyone,
[/size]
This is just a reminder that the next FT match at ASC will be Saturday, January 26 not in April as I mistakenly said in the results from the last match. This next match will be 52-60 shots. We’ll have 3 targets on most lanes, and will include the tower lane this time. As always, we will have water and a community air tank. The only reason we will cancel the match is if it rains on the day of the match; we will keep an eye on it and will send out an email to everyone if that happens. Bring some warm clothes just in case it is cold. Come out and join us for some lead slinging fun.
Members $5, non-Members $10
Please let me know if you plan to attend
Arlington Sportsman’s Club is located at: 11500 County Road 525, Mansfield, TX 76063 (Also called Lillian Road)

ASC January 26 FT Match Results

Howdy everyone,
Here are the results from our FT match on Saturday January 26 at the Arlington Sportsman Club. Thanks to everyone who attended.
Welcome all Texas shooters to the first match of the new year hosted by the Arlington Sportsmans Club in Mansfield. I was excited to kick off the new year at ASC, and the weather turned out great for our first match. Terry Vanpool and I setup the course of 29 targets (58 shots) on Friday using 10 of our available 15 lanes in our wooded 3D archery course. Saturday dawned cool and calm in the low 40’s, with an expected high of 58 by the time the match ended, and very light winds. We only had 11 shooters show up, and we are glad to have each and every one of, but I always welcome more and always strive to setup a challenging course for them. The match this time was 58 shots with an average Troyer of 30.5, SD 6.46, Avg Dist 30.4 yds, and Avg KZ 1.12”.
We had a new shooter, Tommy Taylor who is a member of the ASC, come out and shoot his first air rifle match with us today. Terry Vanpool was generous enough to loan Tommy one of his rifles to shoot, and Tommy shot with me and Terry in the match. Tommy had a really good time, and has a new appreciation of this level of air rifle shooting as compared to plinking in his yard. I expect that Tommy will be back to shoot with us, and I encourage him to try a few more rifles before he purchases one. As a first-time shooter, Tommy shot the match for free; this is an offer from ASC open to all first-time shooters where we waive your entry fee. Come on out and try shooting, because we’ve removed almost all the excuses not to! We had a quick shooters safety meeting, squadded the guys together, and got started on time at 10:00am.
If you read the report from our last match, you’ll remember that we had some new WWII German tank targets on our battle of the bulge challenge.
Well, the Germans are back in force this month with an additional lane of tanks, and another challenge to the shooters to “Take out those Tigers!”
Overall, the match ran exceptionally well with no cold lines, and only one malfunctioning target, when a pellet got stuck in the mechanism near the end of the match. I decided to just throw out this target and give everyone the points for it. Thanks to everyone who joined us at the match and also helped take down the course.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores with 3 shooters posting identical scores of 49/58. Kevin Enizan topped Paul Kocurek in Hunter PCP by virtue of his stronger performance on the forced position lanes. Terry Vanpool also posted a 49/58 in Hunter Piston, taking the win. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
For all of you that couldn’t make it out, you missed another great match in great weather with a bunch of great guys. If you’d like us to make any changes that would allow you or encourage you to attend, please let me know as recommendations are always welcome. We will have our next match the 4

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsmans Club 08/24/2019
The August Field Target match was hot as expected in Texas during the summer, but that didn’t seem to affect attendance at the match this month. 18 shooters including 3 from Oklahoma showed up to take on 9 lanes on the course in our wooded 3D archery course. The match this time was 54 shots with an average Troyer of 33.6, SD 5.67, Avg Dist 32.4 yds, and Avg KZ 1.06”. Saturday dawned warm and calm in the low 80’s, and reached 90F by the time the match ended, and very light winds.
Overall, the match ran exceptionally well with no cold lines or malfunctioning targets, although I did hear some shooters voice disbelief at some of the shots between trees that I setup on Friday. Honestly, I am just trying to be a good match director and spice up the course! ;-) Thanks to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and also helped take down the course afterwards.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores. Paul Walker turned in the match high score and 1
st
place in Hunter PCP with 42/54, while Kevin Enizan finished 2
nd
in Hunter PCP and Dave Cole from Oklahoma finished 3
rd
. Paul Bracaglia finished 1
st
in Hunter Piston with 30/54. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
For all of you that couldn’t make it out, you missed another great match with a bunch of great guys including some out-of-towners. October 2019 ASC FT Match Report and Results

What a wonderful Texas fall day we had for the October Field Target match that was refreshingly cool with a small chance of rain, but warmed to 65F with clear skies and rather breezy by the end. 14 shooters, including high school 10M air rifle shooter Caroline Martin, showed up to take on 11 lanes in our wooded 3D archery course. The match this time was 60 shots with a bonus “spooky clown” bell target worth up to four extra points if the shooter could ring the bell. The course this time had an average Troyer of 30.0, SD 6.00, Avg Dist 30.4 yds, and Avg KZ 1.09”.
Overall, the match once again ran very well with no cold lines or malfunctioning targets, although we did have one 3/8” target at 9.5 yards instead of 10 yards, and I did hear some shooters voice disbelief at the shot between trees required to hit the skull target on Lane 4. Thanks to Terry Vanpool for setup help on Friday, and also to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and finally helped take down the course afterwards.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores. Bob Dye with his RAW TM1000 bested Terry Vanpool for 1
st
place in Hunter PCP with 54/60 based on better offhand lane performance, while Faisal Khan finished 3
rd
with 53/60. Jeff Cloud finished 1
st
in Hunter Piston with 49/60, and Eric Pianori finished 2
nd
with 35/60, just beating Jim Clarke’s 34/60 for 3
rd
. David Alsup finished with match high score and 1
st
place in Open PCP with 55/60 using his Thomas air rifle. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
