Hey all,
ASC will have our next FT match on Saturday November 21, 2020 (the 3rd Saturday of the month). This match will be 60 shots using 3 targets per lane. The start time will be 10:00am to allow time for it to warm up a little. The only reason I will cancel the match is if it is raining (drizzle doesn’t count).
As per our last match in October and other FT matches, we will follow COVID guidelines for this match, so please adhere to these if you wish to participate:
· Follow social distancing guidelines from Tarrant County and the State of Texas before, during and after shooting.
· We prefer that you wear a mask while at the range, if not for your protection then to protect others.
· I have a bottle of hand sanitizer, but please bring your own just in case.
· We will have one shooter per lane unless more than 15 show up, and then we will have 2 shooters per lane. You will be on your honor to record your scores appropriately if shooting solo. Maintain distance while shooting and scoring.
·
No water or snacks or lunch will be provided, bring your own.
Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up.
Safety meeting at 9:45.
Rifle match to start at 10:00.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.

This was our next to last match for 2020. We had to move it forward one week as is the tradition, because the normal 4
th
Saturday match schedule falls just after Thanksgiving. Based on feedback from last month, I turned up the Troyer rating for this match to challenge the shooters a little bit. Terry painted and organized the targets and then we spent part of Friday setting all of them out and arranging them in challenging positions for the shooters the next day.
There were 8 lucky shooters at the match on Saturday morning, and it was I must say a perfect fall day in Texas with temps in the 70’s. This match used all 10 of the lanes in our wooded 3D archery course with 3 targets per lane including the offhand and kneeling lanes. The average Troyer was 32.2, SD 6.87, Avg Dist 29.8 yds, and Avg KZ 1.03”. Terry and I placed many targets in locations that required the shooter to fire through and between trees, under and through dark branches and barrels, and also required them to relocate their seating position to shoot at all 3 targets on a lane. To get to 32 Troyer, I chose to use many targets with small KZ’s rather than longer distances, but I did put a kneeling target out at 43 yards just to be devious.
At the end of the match, I finished with the match high score of 56/60 in WFTF PCP. Faisal Khan finished 1
st
in Hunter PCP with a 54/60, besting Terry Vanpool who was oh so close with a 53/60 and Paul Kocurek with a 49/60. Eric Pianori finished 1
st
in Hunter Piston with a 37/90 and Scott Cotton finished 2
nd
with a 27/60. Vance Lowe finished 1
st
in Open PCP with 52/60 and Cliff Montgomery finished 2
nd
with a 41/60. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
Once again, for all of you that couldn’t make it out this time, I want you to know that we maintain social distancing while shooting and take other precautions to keep everyone safe. If there is anything missing or something that could be improved for an upcoming match, please let me know. I’d like to invite any of you reading this out to shoot and try field target even if you don’t own an air rifle, because we have some to loan you to shoot with. Just let me know ahead of time and we can plan for you to shoot with someone experienced. We’d love to have you join us.
We will have our next match the 3rd Saturday in December (19
th
)
instead of the normal 4
th
Saturday due to Christmas.
See you at the next match,

Good morning everyone,
ASC will have our next FT match on Saturday January 23, 2021 (the 3rd Saturday of the month). This match will be 60 shots using 3 targets per lane. The start time will be
10:00am
to allow time for it to warm up a little. The only reason I will cancel the match is if it is raining (drizzle doesn’t count), or if I get little to no response for attendance from ya’ll. There is a chance of rain all week, ending on Saturday and I’ll keep a close eye on that. Our recent changes to the shooting boxes with gravel mean that we can shoot even if the ground is wet.
As per our recent FT matches, we will follow COVID guidelines for this match, so please adhere to these if you wish to participate:
· Follow social distancing guidelines from Tarrant County and the State of Texas before, during and after shooting.
· We prefer that you wear a mask while at the range, if not for your protection then to protect others.
· I have a bottle of hand sanitizer, but please bring your own just in case.
· We will have one shooter per lane unless more than 15 show up, and then we will have 2 shooters per lane. You will be on your honor to record your scores appropriately if shooting solo. Maintain distance while shooting and scoring.
Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up.
Safety meeting at 9:45.
Rifle match to start at 10:00am
.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 01/23/2021
Welcome to our first match for 2021! As it turns out, this is the first match in over a month for North Texas due to cancelations for holidays and the weather. I could tell many folks were itching to shoot, because we had 13 shooters today from as far away as Tulsa and Boerne, even though the forecast was for cold and drizzly weather. Everyone was thankful that the weather didn’t turn out as bad as had been predicted. This match used 10 of the 15 lanes in our wooded 3D archery course with 3 targets per lane including the offhand and kneeling lanes. The average Troyer was 29.4, SD 4.97, Avg Dist 28.0 yds, and Avg KZ 1.03” again. Once again, Terry, Scott and I placed many targets in locations that required the shooter to fire through and between trees, under and through dark branches and barrels, and also required them to relocate their seating position to shoot at all 3 targets on a lane. The two standing shots at 11 and 15 yards on targets with 5/8” KZ’s elicited lots of comments from shooters. On this same lane, shooters had to shoot the 1
st
target through a crook in a tree, then move to the right and shoot the 2
nd
and 3
rd
targets through and over some ground cover.
At the end of the match, I finished with the match high score of 57/60 in WFTF PCP again. Ron Robinson finished 1st in Hunter PCP with a 52/60, besting Terry Vanpool with a 47/60 and Dave Cole from Tulsa with a 45/60. Mark Welker, also from Tulsa, finished 1st in Hunter Piston with a 45/60 and Eric Pianori finished 2nd with a clse 42/60.
FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 03/27/2021
The March FT match was the largest one, with 16 shooters, since January of 2020!
Friends are coming back to join us for matches now that they’ve got their COVID vaccinations and Texas has lifted the mask mandate.
It sure made me smile to see so many friends gathered together (no closer than 6 feet!) doing something we all love.
John Tafoya (JT) from Kennedy TX joined us in his second FT match.
John shoots Silhouette, Extreme FT, NRL, and other things with his airguns, but recently caught the FT bug.
Welcome JT, and we hope to see you often.
This match used 10 of the 15 lanes in our wooded 3D archery course with 3 targets per lane including the offhand and kneeling lanes.
In preparation for the Cajun Grand Prix match in April, I increased the average Troyer to 33.0, SD 5.43, Avg Dist 32.6 yds, and Avg KZ 1.07”. Once again, Terry, Scott and I placed many targets in locations that required the shooter to fire through and between trees, under and through dark branches and barrels, and also required them to relocate their seating position to shoot at all 3 targets on a lane.
I also placed some targets in shaded areas, one of them in a completely dark barrel, to replicate lanes from the Cajuns.
I heard more than a few complaints about the dark target and not being able to see it, and that meant I had done my job.
The first kneeling shots at 14 yards on a target with 5/8” KZ’s also elicited lots of comments from shooters.
At the end of the match, we gathered under the awning to write down the scores and commiserate on the difficulty of the course.
Ron Robinson finished 1st in Hunter PCP with a 46/56, besting Terry Vanpool with a 43/56 and Jim Clarke with a 40/56. Faisal Kahn finished 1st in Hunter Piston with a 27/56,
Cliff Montgomery finished 1
st
in WFTF Piston with a 25/56, I finished 1
st
in WFTF PCP with a 33.56, and finally Mike Vredenburg finished 1
st
in Open PCP and Overall High score of 48/56 after having not shot his air rifle in over 1 year.
Amazing shooting Mike!

ASC FT Match Saturday June 26, 2021

Good evening everyone,
This is a reminder that the May Field Target match at ASC will be this coming Saturday May 22, 2021 as usual on the 4th Saturday of the month. The weather is supposed to be rainy all week, with a 30% chance of light rain on Saturday. I will be keeping an eye on the weather forecast, and if it continues to look bad or gets worse, I will send out an email on Friday morning notifying everyone that the match is cancelled. We will shoot in light rain or sprinkles, so bring your rain jacket and boots.
We continue to see a resurgence in attendance that rivals our pre-Covid levels. I encourage all of you who haven’t been out in a while to come and join us in our next socially distanced event this weekend. As per our recent FT matches, we will follow COVID guidelines for this match, so please adhere to these if you wish to participate:
Follow social distancing guidelines from Tarrant County and the State of Texas before, during and after shooting.
You may wear a mask, but that is not a requirement.
This match will be 56 shots using 3 targets per lane. There will be 2 forced position (kneeling and standing) lanes. I anticipate that the Troyer will be about 30-31, so a little more difficult than last time.
The start time will be
9:30am
.
Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up.
Safety meeting at 9:15.
Rifle match to start at 9:30am
.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 06/26/2021
Guest match report by Chris this month since I was unable to attend.
Twelve brave competitors came to challenge the heat for the June Field Target Match. Luckily, the high had only reached 91F by the time the match was over the and targets were put away. Kudo’s to Jeff for designing and setting up a great course. Numerous comments regarding the balance of challenging and difficult shots. Great praise for not having to shift position to be able to see all of the targets on the lane. (
I am not a devious Match Director ALL the time – Jeff
) Once again, Terry painted the targets and checked them for proper operation. This course was 10 lanes with 56 shots. The average Troyer this month was 30.1, SD 5.10, Avg Dist 30.4 yds, and Avg KZ 1.07”.
David Alsup was the high overall of the day with score of 52. After the match David provided some comments regarding his choice to shoot in the lower powered (12 foot pound) WFTF class noting better accuracy, better shot cycle and smoother overall reaction of the rifle.
Second high overall for the day was Mike V. turning in another spectacular performance and claiming 51 targets.
Hunter PCP was the most numerous and contested class for the day. Faisal K. was the high overall with a 49. Faisal was working on fine tuning his sons rifle and was happy with the performance of himself and the rifle. C Simmons was second. Rick C. came in third with a 46. (I believe Rick cleared most of the lanes but the forced positions tripped him up this match).
Great thanks to Terry V., Chris S., and Scott C. for help in the running the match and the putting away of the targets, etc.
Thanks for all the help guys. - Jeff
We will have our next match the 4th Saturday in July (24th) starting at 9:00am to beat the heat.
See you at the next match,

Good evening everyone,
This is a reminder that the July Field Target match at ASC will be next Saturday July 24, 2021 as usual on the 4th Saturday of the month. You don’t want to miss this match, because we’ve got some more Okies coming down to visit, since we have been going up to shoot at their match in OKC on the 3rd Saturday each month. There may even be a little friendly rivalry going concerning our mutual state-shaped targets. We have an Oklahoma-shaped target on loan from David Carlile!
As per our recent FT matches, we will follow COVID guidelines for this match, so please adhere to these if you wish to participate:
Follow social distancing guidelines from Tarrant County and the State of Texas before, during and after shooting.
You may wear a mask, but that is not a requirement.
This match will be 56 shots using 2 targets per lane. There will be 2 forced position (kneeling and standing) lanes. I anticipate that the Troyer will be about 30-31 again. No need to make it tougher if no one is cleaning it.
The start time will be 9:00am.
Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up.
Safety meeting at 8:45.
Rifle match to start at 9:00am.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 07/24/2021
We had 20 competitors came to challenge the heat for the July Field Target Match! We had 7 shooters from Oklahoma (OKC and Tulsa) cross the Red River to shoot with us. I think the recent internet jabs (all in good fun) and also the fact that some of us Texans have been going to the OKC match helped encourage them to shoot with us. We started at 9:00am to try and beat the heat, but that was to no avail as it was 95 and humid by the time we finished at 12:30. Luckily almost all the shooting boxes are in the shade! I setup the course with 2 targets per lane and strived to have varied distances and difficulties between lanes. I also had time to add a 13 foot high elevated target this month so that we have a balance of up and down shots. I received numerous positive comments regarding the balance of challenging and difficult shots and the elevated shots. I got more than a few complaints about the three very dark targets spread out on the course. Some of those were on purpose and some were by accident. All I can say is that I will try to make them more visible, but these kinds of targets appear at other FT venues and Grand Prix, so perhaps it is also good for shooters to practice. :^) Once again, Terry painted the targets and checked them for proper operation. This course was 14 lanes with 56 shots. The average Troyer this month was 31.2, SD 6.34, Avg Dist 30.4 yds, and Avg KZ 1.08”, which is almost the same as last month.
David Alsup was the high overall of the day with score of 53.
Hunter PCP was once again the most numerous and contested class for the day with 15 shooters. 1
st
place was Rick Cuccio from Tulsa with an outstanding 48/56 shooting his Benjamin Marauder, barely edging out 2
nd
place was Paul Walker who shot 47/56 with his Thomas. Right behind these 2 was Dan Rowe in 3
rd
with 46/56 using his Daystate Redwolf. This was one of our closest FT matches that I can remember with the top 10 shooters within 6 points of each other (there were numerous ties as shown below).
In Hunter Piston, Mark Welker edged out Eric Pianori with an excellent 36/56.
In WFTF PCP, David Alsup beat me with 53/56 and match high score as already mentioned.
You can see all of the other scores and the equipment used in the table below and some pics of the match below that.
We will not have a match in August, but will resume in September on the 4th Saturday (September 24th) starting at 9:00am to beat the heat. Remember that the Republic of Texas Field Target Grand Prix will be the 4
th
weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) of October, so mark your calendars and be sure to come out and shoot.
See you at the next match,

Good evening everyone,
I want to let you know that the next FT match at ASC will be Saturday, February 26 (the 4th Saturday of the month as normal). This next match will be 60 shots using 3 targets per lane, and I plan to use the tower this time as one of the standing lanes (there will be two). I am moving the start time back to 10:00am to allow for the temperature to rise a little before the match starts. I will only cancel the match if it is raining hard or if the temperature is below 40F at match start time.
ASC Members $5, non-Members $10
Please let me know if you plan to attend. If I don’t get more than a few responses, I will cancel the match for this month.

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 04/23/2022
We had 14 competitors come to challenge the ASC Field Target course yesterday! The weather was perfect, and there weren’t any bugs or chiggers, so if you weren’t present then you missed out on a great day of shooting again this month! It is going to be hot soon and you’re missing out so get off the couch and come and shoot with us. Shooters came from as far as Tulsa Oklahoma and Houston Texas to shoot this match. I decided after our long string of 30 Troyer difficulty matches to turn down the difficulty a little this month, and let the shooters knock down more targets. That was a fortuitous decision because the wind was really whipping at 20-25mph all day and the final Troyer was higher due to the wind. We had one “new” shooter, Jim Martin, join us for his first FT match, but Jim is not a new shooter. He is a seasoned, all-round shooter in other disciplines. Today, we set out a 62-shot match using 10 of our lanes, with two offhand lanes. Scott Cotton painted the targets and checked them for proper operation, and Eric Pianori helped me setup the course on Friday afternoon. Thanks for all the help, Eric and Scott, and to everyone who helps me setup, run, and takedown the course each month.
The average Troyer this month was 25.0, SD 7.25, Avg Dist 29.4 yds, and Avg KZ 1.22”.
We started at 9:00am after a brief safety meeting. Everyone spread out on the course “shotgun” style and started shooting. We had only one cold line for a string that got caught on the target when resetting it. I pride myself on having very few cold lines due to equipment failures, and work diligently each month to check the targets after they are set out on the course. We finished shooting about three hours later, and there were many smiles and celebratory remarks from the competitors about their success knocking down targets. Hunter PCP was once again the most numerous and contested class for the day with 10 shooters. 1
st
place was Rick Cuccio from Tulsa with an outstanding 57/62 shooting his reliable and accurate Benjamin Marauder, with a small lead over 2
nd
place Jim Clarke who shot 54/62 with his Daystate Redwolf. There was a 3-way tie for 3
rd
place that was settled by best performance on the two offhand lanes. Faisal Khan was declared 3
rd
based on the offhand score with 53/62 using his FX Dreamline, while Ron Robinson shooting his venerable RAW TM1000 and Dave Cole shooting a unique BSA R10 finished 4
th
and 5
th
respectively.
In Hunter Piston, Scott Cotton told me that he shot one of his best scores in recent memory with an 43/62, scaring off all the other piston competitors.
In WFTF PCP, I finished first with 56/62 using my RAW TM1000 and new WFTF PCP shooter Eric Pianori finished 2
nd
with a 52/62 shooting his very customized (by himself) Tau. You can see some pics of Eric and his rifle below.
You can see all of the other scores and the equipment used in the table below and some pics of the match below that.
We will have our next match on the 4th Saturday (May 28) starting at 9:00am to beat the heat.

We had 13 competitors brave the heat at the ASC Field Target course today! I decided to start one hour earlier than normal to try and beat the heat, so it was 78F when we started and 89F when we finished at 11:15am. I removed the standing and kneeling lanes to shorten the match just a little too. Glad to be off the field before it hit 100F today. Shooters came from as far as San Antonio and Houston to shoot this match today. I set out a 54-shot match using 9 of our lanes. Scott Cotton painted the targets and checked them for proper operation, and I setup the course on Friday afternoon. Thanks for all the help, Scott, and to everyone who helps me setup, run, and takedown the course each month. Kudos!!
The average Troyer this month was 29.5, SD 6.18, Avg Dist 33.9 yds, and Avg KZ 1.21”.
We started at 8:10am after a very brief safety meeting. Everyone spread out on the course “shotgun” style and started shooting. We had a few cold lines for a string that got caught on one old Kermit Airgun Club target when resetting it, and another cold line when someone shot the leader off a target. I was paired with Paul Walker, back from a long hiatus, and we had a great time shooting together and ended up tying!!! Hunter PCP was once again the most numerous and contested class for the day with 8 shooters. 1
st
place was Faisal Khan with an outstanding 50/54 shooting his FX Dreamline, with a minute lead over 2
nd
place Bill Burkett who shot 49/54 with his Daystate Redwolf. Kevin Murphy finished in 3
rd
place with 49/54 also shooting a Daystate Redwolf, his highest placing since starting to shoot with us last fall. Great job guys!
In Hunter Piston, Scott Cotton once again came out on top with a 31/54, shooting a classic HW97K over Chris Simmons his arch nemesis with a 28/54 while shooting his TX200. This rivalry is heating up between these two long-time ASC members and competitors.
In WFTF PCP, David Alsup finished 1
st
with 48/54 using his Thomas, I finished 2
nd
with 46/54 using my RAW TM1000, and Eric Pianori finished 3
rd
with a 43/54 shooting his very customized (by himself) Tau Brno. David said this was his last warm-up competition before he leaves for the WFTF World Championships in Italy. We all wish you the best of luck David!
You can see all of the other scores and the equipment used in the table below and some pics of the match below that.
We will have our next match on the 4th Saturday (August 27) starting at 8:00am to beat the heat once again.
Please mark your calendars for September 24 & 25, because ASC is hosting the Texas Airgun Show on Saturday and a special FT match on Sunday.

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 08/27/2022
We had 16 competitors brave the heat this month at the ASC Field Target course! I started one hour earlier than normal again even though the temps weren’t supposed to be over 100, but the high humidty and minimal wind made it feel hot! Shooters came from as far as Oklahoma City, San Antonio, and Houston to shoot this match today. We had 10 lanes with 3 targets each, including the standing and kneeling lanes for the course this month. Scott Cotton and I painted the targets and checked them for proper operation and setup the course on Friday afternoon. Thanks for all the help, Scott, and to everyone who helps me setup, run, and takedown the course each month. Kudos!!
The average Troyer this month was 31.0, SD 5.84, Avg Dist 31.9 yds, and Avg KZ 1.13”.
We started at 8:15am after a very brief safety meeting. Everyone spread out on the course “shotgun” style and started shooting. We had one cold line for a target that got jammed with a pellet, and I was notified that a couple others need a little TLC before the next match. I’m on it! I was paired with Mark Welker shooting his AA TX200 after a long recovery from hand surgery, but you wouldn’t know it from his score. Mark and I were tied after 5 lanes, and his score was better than almost all the PCP shooters today. Piston shooters can match and beat PCP shooters with the right kind of practice. Way to go Mark! Hunter PCP was once again the most numerous and contested class for the day with 13 shooters. 1st place was Art Womack with an outstanding 51/60 shooting his Daystate Redwolf, with a 3-shot lead over 2nd place Ron Robinson who shot 48/60 with his RAW TM1000. Robert Droege finished in 3rd place with 47/60 also shooting a Daystate Redwolf beating out Bill Burkett with another Daystate Redwolf by virtue of better forced-position lane scores. Great job guys!
In Hunter Piston, as mentioned Mark Welker came out on top with 50/60 shooting his AA TX200, which is vintage rifle with a custom Maccari stock and personal tune from same.
In WFTF PCP, I was the only participant with 56/60 and match high score using my RAW TM1000.
You can see all the other scores and the equipment used in the table below, but I’m sorry that I forgot to take pics of the match. With the recent rain, our lanes have greened up and the temps have dropped, so the course is ready for a great fall and winter season.
Our next match will be on
Sunday (not Saturday) September 25,
because ASC is hosting the Texas Airgun Show on Saturday, September 24. We expect to have extra participants who came down for the airgun show to stay over for the Sunday FT match. This match will start at 9am and will have sandwiches for lunch from Jason’s Deli. If you want to attend the FT match, please send me an email or text so I can order enough food and drinks.
Please mark your calendars for September 24 & 25, because ASC is hosting the Texas Airgun Show on Saturday and a special FT match on Sunday.

2022 Texas Airgun Show FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 09/25/2022
We had 33 competitors join us on Sunday after the Texas Airgun Show at the ASC Field Target course! This is one of the most highly attended matches of each year and encourages show attendees to stay with us for one more day of airguns! Regular shooter Bill Burkett walked away from the show as the winner of a Hatsan USA RC Factor PCP rifle and scope package. I think we should encourage Bill to shoot it at the next match! Congrats Bill. Shooters came from Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas to shoot this match today. We had 15 lanes with 2 targets each, including two standing lanes for the course this month for a total of 60 shots. Scott Cotton painted the targets and checked them for proper operation and helped me setup the course on Friday morning. Thanks for all the help, Scott, and to everyone who helps me setup, run, and takedown the course each month. Kudos!!
The average Troyer this month was 31.7, SD 5.61, Avg Dist 30.3 yds, and Avg KZ 1.04”. It would not be an easy day for anyone.
We started at 10:00am after a thorough safety meeting for everyone, especially the new shooters that joined us. Everyone spread out on the course “shotgun” style and started shooting. We had one cold line for a string that was shot off, but that was it. I was paired with Jim Clarke and new shooter Jim Byrd who has been practicing and getting tips from Ron Robinson. Hunter PCP was once again the most numerous and contested class for the day with 25 shooters. 1
st
place was Art Womack with an outstanding 52/60 shooting his Daystate Redwolf, with a 4-shot lead over 2
nd
place Mike Atwell from OKC who shot 48/60 with his FX Dreamline. Paul Walker finished in 3
rd
place with 46/60 shooting his Thomas Carbine. Places 4 through 8 were mostly determined by offhand lane performances! It pays to practice your offhand and kneeling shots. Great job guys!
In Hunter Piston, Mark Welker came out on top with 44/60 shooting his Whiscombe JW65, besting Chris Simmons who had some troubles today.
In WFTF PCP, David Alsup finished first and match high score with 53/60 using his Thomas, while I finished second with 49/60 shooting my RAW TM1000, and Eric Pianori finished third shooting his custom Tau Brno(?) with 47/60.
You can see all the other scores and the equipment used in the table below, and some pics of the shooters at the match. Here is a link to all the Google photos taken during the Airgun Show and the FT Match

Our next match will be on Saturday, October 22, and this will be a Piston Rifle Championship Match hosted by the Assistant to the Match Director, Scott Cotton. You can bring a PCP rifle if you don’t have a piston gun and compete in the Fun Rifle class for bragging rights. This will be a 60-shot match and the Troyer factor will be a little lower than normal on account of the piston guns. Scott promises that he will be handing out awards for top finishers and other special mention competitors.

10/22/2022 Arlington Sportsmen's Club Field Target Match
Nine brave shooters came out to compete at ASC on a lovely Saturday (assuming you find gale force winds to be lovely).
Not only was this our monthly field target match, it was also the first time for ASC to host the Texas Piston Field Target Championship. Seven shooters participated in the Piston Championship, two shooters came and shot their PCPs and many regular shooters stayed in their safe rooms or under their beds. It's too bad that so many shooters were afraid of the steely gazes and bulging, Popeye-like forearms of the springer shooters, but we appreciate the guys that came from as far away as Austin and San Antonio for the match.
Jeff Cloud won HOA honors as well as 1st place in WFTF class with his Whiscombe. The Whiscombe is a recoilless springer, so Jeff didn't "technically" break any rules by using the world's most expensive and rare piston gun, but I think he will have some explaining to do at the pearly gates to airgun heaven. (Quick riddle: Guess who is writing a match report and wishes he had a Whiscombe?)
Hunter class was hotly contested by six shooters, with the top three being Eric P (44), Chris S (38) and Scott C (36).
Paul B. shot a 42 in PCP/Fun Rifle class with his Marauder Pistol.
Other prizes awarded were Furthest Traveled (Robert D), Prettiest Gun (Bill B) and Worst Dressed (a 9-way tie, with the tie broken by Jim M's suspenders).
Jim C rounded out the hunter class shooters while wrestling with a gun that decided to go super-sonic on the drive up here. Based on the result, it's true what they say: Speed kills (scores).
The only cold line was caused by shooters looking for the pull string on the bell target. Probably something that a good match director would have pointed out during the shooter's meeting.
Troyer rating for the match was around 27, but the windy conditions made it shoot more like a 32 (or 132).
Big thanks to everyone that came out, a good time was had by all.
Scott
Important note: Next month (November) the match will be on the 19th due to Thanksgiving, not on the usual 4th Saturday.
