Cletus, I’ve seen pics of the newest model with a bushing connecting rod. Can’t remember where I saw it though, I suppose it’s better than no bushing. But a roller bearing is best in a non pressurized oil system like these have.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I've been reading this thread with great interest. I've just had delivery of my new Yong Heng compressor and was going to fill my gun directly using just the supplied black filter. I now realize that this is probably not such a good idea as the supplied filter apparently does not catch the moisture.

So I'm now looking at investing in the gold filter and filling it with the molecular sieve as suggested. Is it better to use the 13x zeolite or would the 3a work just as well? I can source the 3a quite easily, but the 13x is a bit harder to find here in Spain. What do you think folks, is there a big difference when used in our particular installation?

3a will work fine as it will absorb molecules of size 3 angstroms and smaller.  A water molecule measures approximately 2.75 angstroms.

Been doing some more reading on Zeolite X13 and the way our Gold filters are setup. I appreciate that my compressor build is a bit OCD but the findings so far are are in keeping with what I expected in my particular design twist on this whole DIY HPA thing.
As far as my Gold filter setup:
1) Incoming HPA into my filter meets a cold diffuser grid and a lot of condensate forms here  (because everything in there is under air pressure and very little, if any, actual pressure differential. I suspect no "spray" in there and condensate simply drops under gravity to the bottom of the filter
2) there is a lot of air gap between the incoming HPA and the filter because of the media compression spring and this surface further facilitates trapping and containing the condensate
3) the spring creates the aforementioned air space and also acts as a condensating medium along with compressing the Zeolite / cotton pile
4) The condensate sitting at the filter base gets blown out when the HPA bleed is opened to depressurize the system.
5) At the top of the spring sits my teflon disk, this provides a decent support structure for the cotton "tampon" filter (a piston with a hole through it, if you will) and also serves as a second diffuser for the HPA
6) The pile of Zeolite X13 follows, and the "tampon" and the whole pile, is of course held in compression by the spring
7) finally, the filtration is terminated by 1/2" of "tampon" material which just assures containment of the Zeolite beads at the Gold  filter output

This is all working fine and as expected at the time of writing. I intend to throw-in a few color changing Silica-gel beads, just as a moisture indicator on my next disassembly.

Drying time for the Zeolite and Silica-Gel is about one hour in a toaster oven set at 450* (and I afterwards, pack my filter with them still hot)

Service Update:
About 2-hours run-time total. Opened-up the Gold Filter last night, no condensate inside, tampon dry with only a very tiny oil smudge in the middle, zeolite and the few blue silica gel beads mixed in for moisture indication all perfectly dry (silica gel I have goes blue to pink).
Compressor oil mildly discolored  .....I am very impressed!

I don't see why you couldn't. I think 1" PVC would be cheaper and easier to cut though. IIRC though, carbon fiber might have adverse effects with aluminum. Being anodized though it shouldn't be an issue.

Technically, I see no reason why not. But why would you want to go the carbon fiber route though?  ....just curious.
BTW my liner-less filter is working and holding up very well, no issues at all.

The ID of my filter is housing 34mm. The CF tube is Ø34mm... No need for O-rings and all that other stuff used with a PVC liner.

If you decide to go with the CF tube,  make sure you have some PPE on when you're cutting down the tube to length. Those fibers can do nasty stuff to your respiratory system and eyes if you don't take the right precautions.

What are people using to pump water through the compressor for cooling?  I'll have to use a bucket as I don't have a ready source of water where the pump will be used.

Almost every one of these compressors will ship with a submersible aquarium/pond pump. The basic operation is that you put the aquarium pump into a 5 gallon bucket filled with water and and take the pump output tube and connect it to 1 end of the compressor (water cooling jacket to be exact). You then hook up another tube that goes from the compressor, back into the bucket, and that's the water return line.

The pump output hose goes to bottom water fitting and the return goes to the top fitting so the water flows from top to bottom to purge the air out of the hoses and cylinder. If hooked up the opposite way it will have air pockets and cause overheating issues.
