Drew, I am down on the Gulf coast.  So I am very familiar with humid air.  I do have a hand pump with a canister <--- (purchased from Harbor Freight or Home Depot or someplace) - but I just want to say it was cheap.  So what I do to help get dryer air into my rifle is to refill inside the house and upstairs.  It is always warmer and dryer up there.

I am totally new to this whole PCP world having had a Sheridan Blue Streak for years as a teenager. I have just purchased an M10 and have a MaxAir MkII on order.

I have been reading quite a bit about hand pumps, condensation, desiccant etc. Everyone seems to have a different take on their setup and what really works and what doesn't. I'm spending more and more $$$ trying to come up with a home-brew desiccant "AirDryer" that is going to actually dry the air enough to overcome the inevitable condensation from compression. In all my reading the small desiccant intake "Moisture Filters" that are available should not be removing enough water from the air to make any meaningful difference.

Bottom line - who is having condensation issues with their hand pumps and their air rifle-pistol? or is this whole condensation thing a non-issue?

If it is an issue, what have PCP shooters using Hand Pumps done to really-finally overcome this problem?

I never had any really bad moisture problems here in Michigan, during the really humid weather I always pumped inside of the house with the ac going.  I've since taken most everything that I've pumped up apart without noticing any moisture damage but with years of use without disassembly I'd imagine a person could get some bad damage.  Now I'm using tanks that I get filled at a local dive shop so I don't even have to worry about it, probably the only time that I'll use a pump anymore will be when I'm out hunting but that too is doubtful because I seldom go enough shots to require a fill again.

I've been using my hand pump for a couple of months now and have yet to see a single drop of water or oil come out of the bleed screw. Also, my pump came with a hpa filter that uses dense cotton cylindrical media and the only contamination so far is maybe one drop of oil. Most of the guys with elaborate moisture removal setups are filling tanks to 4500 psi with compressors, whereas we are only pumping by hand to 3000 psi or less. There should be less condensation at the lower heat and pressure.

Actually, condensation occurs when the pressure or temperature drops.

While lower temperature air will hold less moisture, lower pressure air holds more.

Adiabatic cooling does that just like the link says.

Ever see condensation come out of compressor? Even shop compressors squeeze considerable amounts of water out of air.

I may just send this thing back. I can get the Benjamin for $130 on Amazon and there is a $20 rebate. I'm not too pleased with this pump. The brass fittings are worrisome. Also when I opened the black case it came in, my pump was covered in water. Is that normal? The first few times I pumped it, water came out of the hose - this isn't normal right?

i got my pump a few days ago and just tried it today and mine was full of water also,literally sprayed out when i tried to pump it.

good thing it wasnt hooked to a gun.

well, i guess using water as a coolant is fine ,but the pump should come empty becasue obviously it leaks

After some brief reading on the manufacturer's website, the pump is supposed to be water cooled. But looks like some of them leaked during transport and storage.

Wonder if it matters if the bleed screw is opened or closed during shipping.
Mine was closed and no leaking of water.

I store mine with 2 pumps, reads around 500psi.

my bleed screw was rolling around inside the case it came in.  so i tore it apart and am going to rebuild it and see if it holds. dont look too hard to do

tore mine down and replaced an oring that looked chewed up,

i used the little plug for the hose to see if its building pressure until my gun gets here,

and............. its hit and miss.

sometimes it will pump up and hold just fine,and sometimes it wont,

but whether it builds pressure or not there is still water coming out of the hose when i pump,and the bleed screw when i bleed the pressure.

what did i do wrong?

and can i use it without the water inside?

arrrghhhhh i need to figure it out before my gun arrives.

Chris, I am fairly certain you want to shoot an air gun and not a water pistol.  DON’T put any water in your air rifles/pistols.

So I have an EBay pump as well. So far so good. Appears to be no desiccant, air is sucked in under the handle.

Thinking about tapping for a 1/8th nipple/couple to extend into the handle. Seal it up real good and then boost it the same way I have seen the Air Venturi pump boosted, adding the harbor freight moisture filter...... hmmm

When I first received he pump, it had silicone oil in it. The instructions said to pump it so many times before use.......

Back when I bought my last pump it came from China, I just checked where I got it on Ebay going the route through paypal which I used to pay for it. Its gone down in price a little since I bought mine.  The pump tubes are 304 stainless, I just check mine with a magnet to make sure and a magnet don't stick.
