Just for information purposes the Mutant standards NEVER had barrel problems as all started with CZ barrels was only the Shorty's that had the cheap Chinese barrels at first causing issues but standards never had that problem.

You are welcome the locking was a short time out while we calmed things down. Unfortunately I was in bed when things got dicey. Once I stepped in and advised Admin what was going on I opened the thread again

I have no issues with people expressing opinions even if I don't like it, but I'm pretty sure just about everybody here can appreciate that the Mutant offers an amazing amount of bullpup for the money.  That it is left-hand swappable is just an added bonus.  I'm a southpaw that learned to shoot right-handed when I first touched guns.  Been working on learning lefty this last year, and relearning how to move/cock a rifle has been a process.

Seeing Scott's results added fuel to that fire.  How many true bullpups can you grab out of the box, clean, and go beat-down on the competition in a contest with?

If I didn't have to put a new roof on my house (so much for my Christmas bonus) I'd have tried buying Dillon's (Dairyboy).

Scott, do you single load the mutant for competition?  Have you noticed a difference in accuracy between the single shot tray and magazine?

Well I was just searching for info on the mutant since I am considering a bullpup for my next purchase an found this thread. I knew when it showed the GTA that it would be full of actual owners comments and tuning info. Boy was I ever pleased to see that Motorhead was leading the way on the testing and modding of the standard that is the gun I am considering for my next purchase.

There is a club member that has a short that I got to shoot about a month ago and truly felt that it was to be my next gun only in the standard configuration. Everything about it was just so sweet and fit me perfectly which made hitting the spinners from 50 to 100 yards far to easy compared to my long guns. He was shooting JSB 15.89 as well at 930 fps with laser accuracy.

I see that they are out of stock at most dealers which is good since I don't have he funds to spare now it will give me time to save for one without the temptation to put it on credit. Just need to bide my time and it will come in due time.

NEVER USED the single shot tray being the Mags index dead nuts accurate and no pellet damage happens using them.  The mags are made from billet and CnC manufactured very accurately with only an O.D. o-ring to hold pellets lightly within the 12 holes each mag contains.

Mike, I think you will love the mutant if you get one.  There has also been a lot of buzz about a new .25 mutant but nobody knows when it will actually be released.  It is supposed to have a new features.  They may be around by the time you're ready to get one and then you can choose .22 or .25.

I was the one competing with my Mutant Shorty. I used the single shot loader only because I don't want to have to check the mag to see how many shots are left  . I do agree with Scott that the magazine design and manufacturing tolerance make no difference in terms of accuracy compared to single loading.

For competitions, I also prefer single loading for safety reasons. If I choose not to take a shot, I can always decock without worrying about double loading another pellet, just to remember that a pellet is in the barrel already! With a mag, I will need to manually take the mag out, rotate it back one slot, put it back in, then decock.

I know you are right about me loving the mutant when I get one since the one I shot of my buddies was so very sweet and accurate as I could ever be. It made shooting accurately seem easy out to 100 yards. It likely will be a few months before I have the funds to buy so if the 25 is out by then it is going to make the decision that much more difficult.

The thing I like the most about the mutant is there is NO action noise whatsoever when you shoot this gun.  At least not that I can hear.  You don't feel the shot either, even though your cheek is resting on the action.  I don't know if I can go back to a rifle that pings and twangs and bangs around when you shoot it.

I did notice the same thing that it was dead quiet and the one I shot was a 22 cal short with an added LDC so it was as they say it was mouse fart quiet".  he had it tuned to shoot JSB 15.89s at 930 fps. After our FT match we go back to the sight in range to have some fun shooting at the spinners out to 100 yards. TYhis last month one of the members had a bunch of eggs that came from his chicken before the were fully antibiotic free so he would not eat them. We set them out on top of the 4x4 posts with the yardage signs on them and began shooting them. It was the member with the mutant and another with a TM 1000x and me with my AT44 Hatsan 22 cal long. There was about 6 dozen eggs and the mutant exploded the most with my Hatsan in second and the TM coming in third. It was so much fun watching the eggs explode when hit it should have been illegal.

I believe the mutant only missed once or twice compared to my Hatsan missing 4 or 5 times.

It sure got me hooked after shooting the mutant so will see what is offered when the funds are here.
