Don't feel bad as the only friends that I have to shoot with are the ones in the FT club I belong to so I only get to shoot with them once a month or sometimes when I meet with a few at the range for some fun shootin that's not a match day. I have two grandsons that come over every other weekend and I get to enjoy shootin with them here at home.

I have a few friends that always want to go to the CMP firearm range behind Talladega super speedway to shoot pistols and spend 20 bucks to shoot and then all the ammo you burn thru. I just cannot see spending a 100 bucks just to shoot as compared to 10 bucks for all day shootin my air guns that are as accurate if not more so out to 100 yards than the firearms they shoot. Granted the CMP range uses electronic targets on the rifle ranges so you can sight in a rifle to pinpoint accuracy out to 600 yards but only steel plates on the pistol range. I have offered for them to come over to my house to shoot in my back yard but they still have not accepted and have even challenged them to a shoot off between their 22LR firearms and my 22 cal air guns but still no deal.

I can only say they do not know what they are missing. Their loss is my gain.

Mike is making a good point still..  While i was watching from the side lines, Mike is just reeinforcing the fact that your Mutant must be even more enjoyable to shoot at a cheeper price than powder burners..   And still making the same marks as a burner at 100 yards is a big +

Only Updates are that I now have done 2 others than my own now and gotten near identical results from them too.

Valve throat work with tapered seat ... PEEK poppet head with matching seat angle ... Increased plenum volume ... Vented hammer adjuster cap ... Cleaned and relubed Regulator ... along with some other undisclosed tweaks and the guns really rock !! .... Granted the stock rifle really has no faults.
Just some room for those inclined to ink a bit more out of them

Sounds like you are becoming well versed in the tuning of the mutants. I know the buddies I shot was a very cool experience and it shouldered so easy is just icing on the cake for me.

The mods you have shared with us will make it so much nicer of a gun that it will be the only go to gun anyone will own. Got to thin the herd some to make room for one when they come back in stock here in the US.

Man, even I'm drooling over a Mutant Standard in .22cal.  Ideally, I'd like to get as many shots as possible on the reg shooting 18gr JSB's at about 825fps.  Would it be pretty easy to tune the gun to this speed?  Also, do hammer forged barrels require more frequent cleaning?

825 with 18's is a tad less power than I run mine at ... with the mods see even greater efficiency than currently achieving.  *Power up / down a simple adjustment of hammer spring tension.

CZ barrels are NOT fouling prone and should shoot a long time before cleanings with quality pellets.

Thanks Scott, good to know.  I haven't found a manual for these guns.  Where is the HS tension adjustment?

I have an old stash of 18gr JSB's that are flawless, and they seemed to shoot best between 800 - 850fps, so that's the speed I'm aiming for.  If the CZ barrel doesn't like them, I'll probably tune for Baracudas at about 850fps.  I love the smack when these hit!

Was keeping the response short & sweet ... lol
Cool thing is, the binder screw on receivers left side that places friction on brass adjuster has a Nylon button that bears against threads so no damage happens. Really snug it up .. YES rotation of adjuster can get quite stiff.
I keep mine lightly snug so rotation of adjuster can happen w/o having to mess with binder screw tension.

I know my mutant has had a boatload of pellets down the pipe without cleaning and it still shoots perfectly.  Was going to clean it but I figured if accuracy is still excellent than just keep on shooting!

Zack, I'm willing to bet your mutant will like the 18 grain JSB's just fine.  Most seem to anyhow...
