Today I placed the order for a new .25 SPA M16 from Mrodair.com, branded as the "Air Max Dominator".
I am really, really stoked about this rifle!
I already own 2 Varmints and 2 CP-1Ms, and I am very much a believer in the value and potential of these guns. First off, they may not be exactly Air Arms build-quality, but at a glance, they are very close. Performance has been excellent on all 4 of my SPAs so far, right outta the box, and they are actually very easy to work on.
The Dominator is a 5 lb PCP that delivers 46 fpe in a multishot .25. What's not to love?
A sling, a light scope, and a few magazines, and I am in the woods all day, without worry about how far or how big or how many, no worries at all, just me an' plenty enough gun for just about anything...
I like that! 8)

I'm interested in hearing how you think it stacks up next to the Hatsan AT44. The synthetic stock AT44 is a bit cheaper on clearance, but I don't think that was available in .25. The Dominator sure is a nice looking rifle!

I've been describing the Dominator as an AT-44 in a 5 pound, wooden-stocked carbine, lol..
It will be very interesting to see how it compares directly to my .25 AT44S-10 QE, and my HW110... :o

I got my AT44S 10 QE in .25 from field supply for $299.99. Last I checked they were still available.

Don't tempt me, ha ha! Still perhaps the best value PCP deal of the year, right after the Varmint...

Nope, just .177! If I'm going to get a AG of that caliber, it's going to be in .25 Caliber! LOL!
I'll have to keep checking to see if they get more in .25, I could be easily swayed...

Yup, I agree completely, this is a rugged gun, it almost wants to be more powerful, not less. In .25, she's amazing. I'll make mine the most powerful air gun I own over the winter, and mount it on a bipod. Until then, I'll be carrying a .25 Dominator that does all the same stuff, but at about 5/8ths the weight, with great balance, and superb pointability, and all the same power. Hopefully .25 Predators will fit the Dominator magazines, that would be great. My other SPA guns seem to thrive on a JSB and Predator diet, so there's always the hope, fingers crossed!
-
The hatsan at44 is a great all around gun to have in anyone's collection. I own three variants of the gun😎
-
I have one on order in .22 myself.
I really hope the 5lb weight is accurate. Artemis has the weight listed as 3000g, about 6.5lb. Looking at other website's you see either 5lb or 3000g listed for the M16...won't know for sure what # is right until I get mine I guess.
3 reasons I bought this gun over other similar offerings. Weight, side lever cocking and regulated. with a lighter scope, this should make a fine carry rifle. Even if its 6.5lb, with a light scope figure under 7.5lb. That's over 2lb lighter than my Mrods and 5lb lighter than the Gladius(or the PIG as I call it!).
-
Shultz,
I'm with you on the weight, I'm also not 100% sure, but either way, it's all good.
-
Yep, even if it's 6.5lb, that's lighter than most anything else in the class. Heck, it will still be lighter than most of them with a scope mounted 8)
Assuming it shoots straight, ends up around 7.5lb W/scope I'll be happy.
Another unknown is the SPA Reg. My PP700 reg works great, the reg on my MKII, not so much. If I'm lucky, I'll go 2 outa 3 with SPA regs. If not, HUMA makes a direct replacement for the M16 ;)

Good to know! I can deal with a little creep in a hunting gun, within reason, but if it gets annoying, yeah, it's good to have options. I see Robert Lane does not have one for the M16, but does for all the unregged guns, it seems...
This is where I got my 2 varmint regulators:

I'd rather not add cost to the gun, but, if I have to I will.
I have several lane regs, no complaints.
-
Agreed!
When I am in almost $500, hoping for first tier performance from a budget gun, I'ma be ready to throw in another few hundred if that's what it takes, and it will be lessons learned and fun all along the way. These kinda projects make long, cold winter nights and weekends a blast. I'd get cabin fever without tinkering projects like these, lol.
I expect this gun to pay for itself in meat over it's lifespan, we love wild game here, even the kids. I make an awesome squirrel/rabbit andouille-style sausage that grills up very nicely! Yumm!!

Heck I'm happy with the regulator in my PP700S-A from Mrodair, if the one in the Dominator works as decent as that one I'll be happy, I suspect it will probably work better though, I'll find out when I get the gun. Even Mike probably don't know how they work yet because he hasn't got one yet. The SPA guns that I've gotten from Mike have all been good right out of the box anyway and hopefully this one will be too.

If so can you give us a report ?

Joe,
It'll be after Labor Day before I'll have a chance to get started, but I will post my progress once I get going in a fresh thread.
Gonna be fun!

That would have to be the beefiest 5 lb. gun I've seen. Looks stout and heavier than 5 lbs.
The Maximus is a true 5 lb. AG, and it looks much lighter. Much smaller breach, smaller in dia. tube. No shroud. I just can't see it. If it is that light, I would be very afraid of just where they shaved the weight off. :o
Sure like the looks of it though!!! 8)

I like the look of the M-16A bottle gun better but spec at 700 fps in 25.

It's all aluminum and balsa wood! Seriously, the Varmint feels much lighter than my Maximus, so I would not be surprised if they are that light.
-
Barebones I'm guessing it's going to be closer to the weight of the M10 and I have no idea how much they way out of the box.
-
It will be lighter than it looks, for sure. The gun is smaller than one imagines, and that was true with my Varmints, too...
These are on a scale that women and kids can use very comfortably, I cannot imagine a man that won't find them handy and maneuverable..
These may become the new high bar for low end guns, as well as mid-priced guns, too.
I was a skeptic 4 guns ago. Now? I believe in the product line, since every gun I have from SPA continues to outperform any logical expectation for them. Until that trend is contradicted, I'ma be first in line for the innovative stuff, too.

I'm interested in hearing how you like this, and how the trigger is, and how the internal build quality is, and how... etc. etc. etc.
Thanks!
-
Yeah, definitely some experienced airgunner needs to open up this guns and have a good look at the build quality both for longevity and safety.

I thought about waiting but just couldn't help myself ordering mine, I had already self program myself to order one immediately when they were available.

Curious to see what you think of it. Looks nice for the price for sure.

Same here, Wayne! The moment I saw both the M16 and M30, I knew I was gonna own at least one of each, ha ha!
The Dominator in .25, and an M30 in .177, with a .22 (regulated 30 fpe) Varmint, and my new SPA hunting/pesting PCP trio will be complete!!
Criitta-gittin' will be a whole lotta fun with these three awesome lead slingers!! Y'all have no idea how long I've been wanting guns this size to hunt with, OMGawsh!!!
-
Barebones I'm guessing it's going to be closer to the weight of the M10 and I have no idea how much they way out of the box.
My M10 weighs 7 lbs, 10.5 oz (muzzle thingy attached, no scope).
Stock alone weighs 3 lbs, 2 oz. I suspect they may have been able to shave at least a pound of wood weight from the M16 compared to the M10.
-
I couldn't resist tempation, ordered the .25 cal last night. It will join my M10 and P12, and will replace my Airforce Escape .25 that will have to go on the classifieds to help fund the newest toy. I too have been quite happy with the price/performance and quality of the SPA guns for field use. The P12 has been a real trooper with no issues at all. The M10 was purchased as a learning experiment and I have had it stripped all the way down several times. It now shoots JSB Monsters at 50+ ft lbs into nickle sized groups at 50 yards. Can't wait to see what the newest addition to my SPA lineup can do...
-
I'd say you're more than likely going to like the P15 Steve. I would love to be a guinea pig for all their guns but it ain't gonna happen because buying them all would cost me more than I'm willing to pay. I'm sure that I'll be happy with my Dominator when it gets here 8)
-
Sad to say but the Cometa Orion finally got edged out of first place on my Airgun Buying Spreadsheet. That spreadsheet never steered me wrong before, so I see no reason not to change. When I have the funds, prolly get the PR900 then save for the M16 (as much as I like bottle-guns, I'd rather have the M16 that the M16A).
Nice knowing I ain't the only SPAddict.
-
I'm just more of mid range power kind of guy and that works in my favor as far as the wallet is concerned. I feel like I got my PCP needs covered with my 2 lego hpa carbines for close in plinking and pesting. The .177 AMV and .22 FD-PCP Gen I absolutely covers 30 to 40 yards plus and the SynRod in .22 stretches me to the outer limits of my intentions.
This in mind, I think it's time to revisit the whole arsenal and fine tune for practical usage. I have some vintage guns that ain't going anywhere. I have some springers that have either earned their keep or have a place in the heart. I have C02 guns that I grab every time I grab a C02 gun. And pumpers.... yeah.. pumpers. I cut my teeth on pumpers. These are going to be the hardest to assess. Pistols don't take much space but, other than Willie G. Stubbs they are expendable.

Darn it all
I sold a few powder burners that were collecting dust
I just pulled the trigger on a .22 SPA M16/ AIRMAX DOMINATOR w/spare mag deal. Still have not purchased my high end gun yet I guess I am waiting to see what else comes out.

Good job, Keith!
When the sub-$500 (and sub-$200) guns are as good as these SPAs, it's hard to justify dropping a grand on a gun that may not perform noticeably better. I'm not afraid to spend money to get what I need, or even want, but it seems foolish to buy ALL top end guns when sooo much of my air gunning doesn't require Bench Rest accuracy.
What I need during hunting season is light and powerful...
There comes a time for a Stehr, or an Anschütz, or a Feinwerkbau, or even a RAW, or Thomas, but in the squirrel woods, or even when calling in coyotes, all that extra expense is wasted. Woodcraft will make all the difference when hunting, another few thousands of an inch smaller groups will not put much more meat in the freezer, or any many more varmints/pests into the ground...

Got another nice fat Red with my Varmint this morning. After I get done washing off all the skeeter spray I'll get a vid and pics in the hunting gate.

I will don the skeeter spray tomorrow, opening day for small game in GA tomorrow.
-
I'm not seeing it on the mrodair.com website. Mind telling me how much it cost? I'm looking into .25 PCP's for when my tax return comes.
Edit: Nvm, I found it! Priced a hundred-ish bucks lower than the competition. I'll have to watch this one!
-
When you go to Mrodair's home page it will be in the upper right hand corner "Hot New Items from IWA 2017"
or you can go directly to the store for them with this thread http://yhst-139878093962642.stores.yahoo.net/newitiwa20ai.html (http://yhst-139878093962642.stores.yahoo.net/newitiwa20ai.html)

I might have missed it, but did MrodAir mention when the M-30 is gonna be in the US ?
-
I haven't seen anything mentioned about it Manny. Manny I never sent any of them pellets to anyone cause I'd be ashamed to send anything that shoots that terrible.
In my opinion they'd be good for only one thing and that would be to break in a gun.
-

Bummer, I was hoping that mold was a Winner, if you have some that you don't use do you mind sending me some anyway, I'm running an unchocked Shin Sung barrel on my .25 Evanix, those barrels are quite different then the wast majority of the barrels that are on PCPs nowadays,....and if those pellets shoot out of my gun I could buy the mold of you if you interested in selling :) :)

Mike says he's got a lot of stuff in the works Manny. I would think he's working on the M-30 as well. So far he's getting everything he's told me he was going to get. I've noticed that if he wasn't sure he was getting something he would just hint around it a little.

From the outside pics of the SPA factory it is HUGE!

I wouldn't want to visit tho... I hear they got trap doors in the floor and you just might find yourself shipped off to Shanghai. Oh wait.... that's their other plant.... n/m.

The airgun factory is a 2 hr. drive from Shanghai.

Lots longer tied up in the bottom of a boat tho.... ;)

Should be hearing something about the new stuff soon, I'd think, Mike has been awfully quiet lately, and that usually means he's up to something, or not, ha ha!
Anybody remember when Mike said we'd be getting our Dominators?
Seems like he was expecting them the 15th, but likely the 20th before shipping starts, was that the latest update?

I'm excited to see how this gun works out! It has a regulator right?

Yup, regulated for 46 fpe! Gonna be sweeeett!!! 8)

Oh dang, I really want one now.
-
I was looking at the M22 I think it was on the SPA page, it's regulated and available in .22 & .25 but it's bolt action, it claims regulated adjustments for 500-1000fps but don't specify the caliber, would be nice to get 850fps with a .25 with the JSB MKII's.
-
Is the M16 regulated?
-
Yes!
-
Where they at? anyone got shipping yet?
-
Mike said they'll begin shipping tomorrow. If he has brought them there they didn't scan them yet though. I'll be getting a BSA scope I ordered on Thursday and I'll probably be seeing my Dominator by Thursday or Friday by the looks of it.
-
I don't normally buy unless the gun is in stock, but I did this time hope to see the Dom in this week, and my Condor SS .25 should be in tomorrow better order some pellets for that one.
-
The Dominator will be a surprise package indeed ! Mike knows for sure now what each one is shipped with and in a way I'm kinda glad he hasn't let the cat out of the bag so to speak so that we (the first to really be getting our hands on these guns anywhere) can unveil and discover for ourselves. It's not often a person can say I was the first kid on the block to get one of these ;)

Keith yesterday I surfed the net for quite some time for the M16 availability and every place that showed them they all said out of stock. It looks like we are going to be the first guinea pigs for the Dominator (M16).
-
So, since these are regulated how many "good" shots can you expect in each caliber?? I know its probably a guess at this point. How many in the bottle fed version?
I'm thinking with the bottle fed version with a pump like below I'd be set

If I hadn't already had such good results with the other SPA guns I bought from Mrodair I probably wouldn't have ordered one but I figured it was worth the chance.

waiting...waiting...waiting... Sold my .25 Airforce Escape so I have plenty of .25 cal pellets, just need the Big Iron M16 to show up. :o

For some odd reason everything that I've bought from Mrodair doesn't seem to be updated in the UPS My Choice until it reaches Camden AR and every time it seems to be out for delivery 2-3 days later, my last order the origin scan was July 31st for the CP1-M and it was at my door on August 2nd.

Contact UPS Customer Service and ask them why that is. I bet you are not the only one experiencing the same glitch.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Mrodair shopping cart system isn't the greatest my link still says "This order is pending review" but payment was made on 8/14
And I shipped to my company so My Choice is not an option and our Quantum view is messed up right now so I am blind to incoming deliveries at the moment.

I'll bet when I finally see it on my UPS My Choice the origin scan will be yesterday ???

If at all....
The only time I've got tracking from MRodAir is when I specifically requested it and was granted that request.

Y'all been busy here, huh?
Ha ha!!
Sooo, I talked with Mike today, and he says these are gonna be 'shipping out all week'..
I had hoped to have my Dominator for the camping trip I went on with my family last weekend, buuut, noooo, and I was hoping to find it had come while I was away, but, noooo, in fact, I was pretty disappointed to find out mine had not even shipped yet...
Sooo, it won't even be here before I leave for the south, sooooo, unfortunately, I had to ask Mike to 'hold' mine until I get to my new place, so I can be sure I take possession of it myself, and it doesn't disappear off of my doorstep. UGH!!!! >:(
So much for 'ladies first', ha!
I read that he said they came in last week, but still not shipped, yet??
That boy needs some serious help. This is the Amazon-age, and waiting times like these are unacceptable. Everything that was pre-paid should have been on a truck first thing Monday morning, at the latest. How hard is it to print a label and paste it on a box?
Grrr.
Anyhoo... ::)
Thanks for keepin' my thread warm, fellas, y'all done good, lol..

I have a package coming from Amazon via UPS. It didn't show on MY CHOICE UPS until I tracked it with the number that Amazon provided.
Yeah... they got a glitch in there someplace.
-
Yeah, definitely sumptin' rotten in Denmark, ha!
Oh, almost forgot to mention, Mike confirmed he has the CP-2 carbines in, buuut....
Says he can't even order the M30 yet, so, let's just put that one outta my head a while...
Forgot to ask about the LR700w, sorrrryyyy!!!
I'll prolly have one of the .22 CP-2's and LR700w's on my doorstep before my .25 Dominator arrives, the way it's going, ha ha!!
Soo much fun, these little buggers, almost as good as a Lay's potato chip.... ;)
Yums!! :D
-
I have not seen the CP-2 listed on his website yet, did I miss something?

I wouldn't expect the LR700W any time soon either.

None of the new stuff (other than the Dominator and it's bottled twin) is listed yet. I was told by the end of the week.

That is just as well, the way I have been spending I don't need more temptations

Had a co-worker approach me yesterday looking for a specific gun for his grandson. I just happen to have something that fits the bill so I may be looking for my next purchase. At this point it's more of what do I want than what I need.
-
I do not know if it is need, want, or addiction lol
-
I honestly don't really need most of my airguns, they're so much fun though, I've even got my brother buying them too. He has no idea I have the Dominator coming, I'm just going to show up there some day with it and let him shoot it. He's in an area where distance is no challenge for him with his Savage HMR. He's got sliding doors that open to his two acre's and a big bean/corn field beyond that, he keeps his HMR & 3 airguns leaning against the wall next to those doors. Oh I forgot to mention the airguns, they're the Varmint .177, RWS 34 (I think), and his .177 Disco. The day that I brought the Disco to him that same night he got a smiley with it.

Well, I can wait on the pumper, no worries there, but I have uses for a .22 CP-02M carbine in my new digs, so that will be a nice addition, for sure!
But, I'll just be happy to see my .25 Dominator in Dixie, whenever she arrives, lol..
Keith, whether want, need, or addiction, there's an itch to be scratched, and I'm all for it!

Yep it get's infected and it winds up infecting others...... ;D
After that it becomes a contagion or something like that.

We are all in this together here on the GTA Darkside, lol, sorta our own modern take on a leper's colony, ha ha!
Hey, there are worse ways to go, ya know? When I was younger I spent waaay more money on pretty rocks and shiny metal things to decorate myself with, and though I still adore such trinkets, well, none of 'em ever helped with a pest problem, ha ha! In fact, all that twinkling and glitter only seemed to attract MORE pests into my life, ha ha!

Well, the Brown truck did not stop at my house today... :( Mike should pay me for all the waiting and truck stalking... ::)

C'mon already,.......I want to start reading reviews of this gun.
....not that I want to buy one but I'm interested on an other model from this brand and if this one is good hopes that the M-30 is good too are raised :) :)

Ain't been no stinkers yet, Manny, all my SPAs have exceeded my expectations. But I hear ya on the waiting being excruciating, lol. I'm in for an M30, too, once they arrive. Dunno if you read where I said that Mike told me he can't even order them yet, so who knows when we will actually get our hands on them? :(
Until then, the Dominator and CP-02M carbines will jus' hafta do, at least we know they are in the country, somewhere, presumably, lol..
*sigh*
It'll be about a week before I see either, how am I gonna manage until then, ugh! ???

Watch another three years down the road you'll probably be able to get something similar to the Huben K1 at a bargain price. I believe they also are an SPA gun ;)

What I'm looking forward to is if and when SPA decides to start making a big bore, it would have to be 35 cal or larger for using for deer hunting here, I think the big bores are way over priced myself. Who know's maybe Crosman will come out with another .357 other than the Bulldog (I'm not a fan of bullpups myself) something like the Rogue. I wish that they would have continued refining that rifle because I thought it was really neat but way over priced.
-
I can't shoot bullpups. Well, I can shoot them, but racking the bolt behind my ear is one big problem for me, among other anatomical issues, lol. Put that semi-auto Huben action into a tactical carbine stock, or even a 'fine German beech' stock, and I will be all over it, oh my, yessss! ::)
Until then, I'll play with the repeater carbines they already make so well.. 8)
Such awesome times to be into pre-charge guns, yeppers! :D
-
are the CP-02M carbines in this load of guns if so how did you order?
-
Are the Cp-2M's CO2 powered or HPA? Just curious if they are just a CP-1 with a different grip/stock set-up? I'm mainly interested in the CP2 grips Mike is getting. If that's the only difference, I'll just get the grip set. If it's HPA, wheel that's a different story! Thanks.

Mike said he'd have them listed on his site 'by the end of the week', but he also said he was gonna ship out the Dominators last Monday, so, as we all are learning, what he says, and what he can actually get done, seem to be two very different things.
It is my intention to do some HPA conversions on the CP-02M carbines, but I already have a full plate for the near future, so I can't promise when I will get started on them. My first priority will be regging and blueprinting the PR900W, then on to the CO2 guns. Gotta buy some new machines before I start fabricating better parts, so mostly just replacing O-rings, adjusting, and parts swapping with hand tools in the first go-round. I would guess I would be in full fabrication mode by the holidays, but with the move coming up, hunting season nearly upon us, and then there's a long-overdue southa-da-border vaca in the works, too, so it may take longer than anticipated. I can almost guarantee I'll be elbow-deep into my two Varmints in a week or two or three, though, but not quite... ;)
These CO2 guns will be amazing shooters if the HPA conversions are feasible and economical to do. Perfect guns for girls, and anybody else that likes light and easy carry hunter/pester/plinkers. I am pretty stoked about getting into all the budget SPA guns, especially, I see great potential in the ones I own, and I look forward to finding out exactly how far I can push the envelope on them..
Fun, fun, fun!

Sounds like you could be working yourself into the position to be a SPA importer/Custom Air Gun Dealer! You could come up with your own clever names for them and market them to female and younger hunters! Custom made, high power, lightweight rifles and carbines in pink camouflage could be a big hit!

A bit over 130 Euros from Krale, and they have the Camo version, too...
Hopefully Mike's price will be much lower, and he'll have the Camo, to boot...
Yeah, these puppies are gonna be a smash hit around my place, even my girls get giggly when they see them, which is sayin' somethin', 'cuz my lil' princesses usually only want pink guns, ha ha!

Alright then, if those come up for sale in the 100-120 bucks range they will be a huge hit,.......question, looks like there's a cartridge in the grip, does that mean that those guns work on 2 cartridges ? one in the grip one in the tube ?
.....now that would be super cool indeed.

Paul,
What we need here in the US market is somebody that can actually FIX these guns when they break, since we all know that is inevitable. I would never, ever, ever sell a product that I wasn't qualified to service, willing to replace, or refund, whatever the customer wants/needs.
Until I know what makes them tick, inside and out, it would be irresponsible for me to order up a boatload and unleash them on the public.
I did make a few extra dollars years ago building target rimfires for ladies and girls, so yeah, I do know that market very well, but as I say, until I am certain I can do the repair work, and get a full line of spare parts, and be able to sustain another product line, I will not even think about transferring cash to China for anything in bulk. For now, let's just have fun with these, and let the chips fall where they may..
But thank you for your confidence in me and your enthusiasm for these cool new goodies!

I saw that, too, Manny, and I honestly do not know if they've gone to a two cartridge system. I agree, that would be another awesome option, for sure.
I would guess that the price will be a little less than the Plinksters, since the plastic grips/stocks are cheaper to make than wood ones. But, hey, that's just a guess...
Typically, Mike looks at the EU pricing and tries to undercut them enough to keep us from ordering from abroad..
-
Manny
I think that is just a wing style screw to remove grip and stock quicker although the stock does mount from the rear. Strange

Yep, thas why none of us have ordered anything from Krale lately, ha ha! I was making a killin' last winter and spring on HWs from Krale when the rates were very favorable, but that door has been closing lately. Been looking at some other options abroad, too, in non-EU countries, but I haven't had time to really get very far with that yet...

Manny

Yeah, but what would be the reason for that ? a simple screw would be better and out the way, but if there was a cartridge in there that kind of wing screw to pierce the cartridge would make perfect sense, ....anyway it's just suppositions for now but if they indeed run on 2 cartridges it would be a game breaker in small CO2 guns.

Ahh, coolio!
Now, who's gonna be the first to modify or make the parts that actually allows the 'spare cylinder' compartment to become a second, tandem CO2 port?
That's what I'm thinkin'...mhmm...yup...yup...
But, we'll see.

Wow, there are a LOT of improvements to this gun over the CP-1!
The 'old stock' stuff is gonna be obsolete before long, kinda irks me to think that while outside the US folks have been buying latest production stuff, we may very well have been buying off discounted, discontinued older versions, as is clearly the case with the .177 Varmints versus the .22 versions. I again stand by my earlier statements that SPA products are in a continued state of evolution, and this video bears out that initial judgement. What we did NOT know, may really irk many of us, once the full picture of the current state of the art production finally becomes clear. If my Dominator turns out to be last years over-run, I'ma be done with that source forever. Just a bit of venting, but I do feel a bit taken advantage of at this point..
That gun is waaay better in pistol form than my 2 CP-1 pistols, that much is obvious..
Grrr.
The new version comes with a REAL suppressor, threaded barrel, safety, extra cylinder storage, better grips, two magazines...not to mention the additional long barrel and carbine stock. Suddenly the $99 'deal' on the CP-1 feels like a poke in the eye with a sharp stick...
Does over 9 fpe in .22 with the extra barrel...
Did I mention these guns were cool?
Yeah, I did.

I was telling Buffalo Bill in the woods today that I'd soon be getting another gun, thanks for the headsup Mike, I just got a new BSA today in the mail for it too. Curious if you shot one yet ???
-
What is a CP-2 Mike? I can't find it on your site.
-
Well, how bout that...UPS My choice is showing a delivery from Mrodair "processed and ready for pick up" ;D
I'd say by Wednesday next week I'll have my grubby little fingers wrapped around a dominator!
-
What is a CP-2 Mike? I can't find it on your site.
Mike said it will be up this weekend on mrodair see the other post about SPA guns also a few post back I posted a video
but it is a cp1 with butt stock long and short barrels so 2 guns in one
-
I really like that pistol, I was looking for something to buy this weekend. The only pistol I own is a Steel Storm converted to full auto, but it only shoot BB's.
-
The Mrodair MKII pistol is awesome great feel it is really sweet. Only draw back for some is it is single shot not magazine
-
I just checked for mine and My Choice it shows up scheduled for delivery Tuesday.

Very cool

Sooo glad I called and had Mike 'hold' mine, if I hadn't, it woulda been dropped off on my porch here with nobody to get it but thieves...
Sure wish it woulda shipped out last Monday as indicated by Mike last Friday, then I would already have it in my hot little hands..
Sooo, yeah, anyhoo, I'll be very jealous of all y'all once they start arriving and the fun starts without me, bleh! :P

Thank you, Keith! I was on pins and needles all week waiting for something that wasn't even on the way, with no real way to know if or when it was or would be shipped. I'll be the first to admit I am a bit spoiled by Amazon Prime, among other things, but there really is no excuse for 1950's style delivery blindness when everybody has a computer and a smart phone and shipping label printing capacity on-site.
I'ma flog this ailing horse until something changes, because it needs flogging, until it either shapes up and get's with the 21st Century program, or expires. Not a fan of 'tough love', but in some cases, it is the only recourse available...
Yeah, the GUN will be sweet, that I am sure of. Just everything leading up to it has left me SOUR.
Grr.

Just chill a bit and you will be fine, take a deep breath you have a lot on your plate. If that don't work I find that Bushmills Blackbush helps

As for 'my endeavor', well, that's also gonna be sweet, thanks for the supportive comments, y'all..
Been talkin' to summa my financial peeps, looking at the numbers, making projections, considering options, all that sorta thing, and yes, there's a growing feeling that something more can be done than I had previously thought possible...
No promises, these things take alotta time to do the RIGHT way, but yes, I'm onboard, in theory, and intention, at least..
We''ll see.

All this talk of Bushmills is making me reach for some Captain Morgan Cannonblast.
I'm looking forward to reaching about how good the M16 performs. Gut feeling... well, everyone should know by now I'm a fan of SPA- it's for a reason!

Shot my P12 last weekend, and will be carrying the M10 in the woods this weekend. Great therapy while waiting on the M16, which I am pretty sure I will be thrilled with. Hunting season this year is going to be a blast. Not sure where you are headed Chickie, but welcome back to the South!!

Thanks, Steve, my heart is always in Dixie, even when I ain't! ;)

I would have just asked for refund by now and moved on. Maybe the best way to deal with it is through the wallet. Be tuff to swallow a whole shipping container.
"Dear Sir... If you don't provide me with tracking by the end of business today please refund my money"

You make a very valid point, Bill, lol..
Buuut, I am very keen to open mine up and see what makes 'er tick, and have a growing, vested interest in these products. If it were any other product but a SPA, I would have already done just the kinda thing you suggest, but honestly, I am not confident in the 'refund' process going any more smoothly than the buying and shipping process, so parta me says 'just leave it be, don't make waves, don't rattle his cage, it'll all be okay in the end'..
See? That's OUR conundrum, right? And also his leverage to be able to do things in such an unprofessional way...
We are addicted to the joy these lil' buggas deliver, if they arrive, when they arrive, if they work...
The product justifies the means in the end, but not the process...

Don't count on getting a FULL REFUND has been my experience. But that's ok because I'm weaned off of buying them. Now I'm in the process of going after the source of the problem and he's subpar business ethics.
Just one of the things that's a take-away on customer relation.

I hope ya'll get your guns soon and they are (like Mike says) more than you expected. Still a bit too rich for me... I shoot for pleasure and my $200 <> each arsenal gives me just that. Then again, I drive a '97 Ford truck rather than 2017 Escalade. I get from A to B just the same. Don't mind getting a little mud on the tires either.

Maybe with all the $$ Mike will make selling a container full of guns he can finally do something about that disaster of a website he has.
I thought mine was bad, until I saw his.
Have to say though, getting mine updated (due to go live any day now) has been one of the hardest and most frustrating projects I've ever worked on. ecommerce is NOT easy. I seem to have a direct line to the secret squirrel society of web developers. Yiikes have I hired some bozos.
I good website that's kept updated will fix most of the issues y'all complain about.
I'd still like to know what a CP2 is. Is this an updated CP-1M? or some other animal?

From what I've seem on the euro sites. I think it's safe to say, the CP-2 won't be less 189.99. I guess between $199-$220.

Yeah hey!
Actually Krale has them for 30 euros less than the pr900w which is a varmint, at 139 euros. So if you look at it that way where krale is charging the same in euros what mrodair is charging in US dollars he could hopefully be selling the CP2 in that 140 - 150 range. Seems reasonable to me anyway lol!
-
Well now, that changes things! Hadn't seen them on Krale's site. The couple of euro shops that I had seen them on, they were going from 165-199 euro for the CP-2 combo...
Then again, 139 euro= $165, plus another $30-$40 shipping... I'll stick with $189 and up ;)
-
I'll say this about ordering from Krale- shipping is the same for one or two. So you could always split shipping with a friend.
My main beef is the MRodAir website. It's an eyesore, tedious to follow, and smells feels tastes looks like a mid-90's pr0n site. I'd still order from him. After all, it did take ~ 8 weeks for my CCS 2400KT to make it from Crosman :o ::) ???
About Corvette vs Chevettes- I had 2 different 1984 Chevettes. The first was a hand-me-down from my sister when my Mustang was t-boned and I needed wheels. The second was an intentional purchase for all of $50 (needed a battery and replacing some vacuum lines). I recall driving by a bus-stop and some joker pointed at me and laughed. I drove by a few minutes later as a summer rainstorm started dumping and yeah, he wasn't laughing. Airguns are the same way. If a cheaper gun is performing well and offers lotsa value for the money, it ain't a bad thing.

Hey Guys,
A few notes.
One
I already have the CP-2 here in stock.
All included with both stocks, both barrels, two mags and the LDC. 177 or 22 for 189.95 shipped
They will be enabled on the website later this weekend for release Monday.
(Yes I do my own ecommerce, website and webstore. Run a full time machine shop booked a year in advance as well as Mrodair.
Haven't had the time to add them, as I made priority on getting the preorders out first.
Two,
As for partial refunds, when the product has been taken apart, posted on the forum about how badly it was thrown back together, and then returned. It gets refunded the same way. Partial.
Hope you all have a great Labor Day.
I for one, am taking the weekend off, as its my birthday also.
-
Happy birthday Mike!!!

All the best to you in your business as well, don't burn yourself out! Looks to me like these guns will continue to sell like hot cakes. Make sure you take care of yourself, and find some good people to help you out, if possible. I'm sure your family needs you and wants you around for many more years! God bless

THE DOMINATOR IS IN THE HOUSE!!!!! Sorry Bill, it's not perfect, but close enough that you will look good in green... ;D
So, the Dominator arrived right on time, thank you Mike (Happy Birthday Boy) and the Brown truck. The rifle was double boxed, well packed and protected, and arrived in pristine condition. The stock has no flaws, and the machining shows no imperfections that I have found so far. The rifle is 37 inches long without the included LDC, 41.5 inches with the LDC, and weighs exactly 6 lbs according to my digital luggage scale. (and feels lighter than 6 lbs) With the scope attached the rifle total weight is 7.4 lbs so definately lighter than my P12 (9.4 with scope) and M10 (10.4 with Scope). The trigger is surprisingly good, fairly light and crisp. The shot cycle also seems crisp and the gun is backyard friendly quiet at the power level it is currently shooting. (about 39 ft lbs)
I removed the shroud and unscrewed the barrel for a good cleaning, it was VERY dirty. I also removed the stock just to see the remaining machining and to see if there were any adjustments underneath. Machining was all nice, and there is an adjustment screw of some kind, but since the very sparse instruction manual did not mention anything about adjustments, I will wait for Mike to give us more information before tinkering with it. I hope it is an external adjustment for the regulator, that would be super nice.
Chickie is going to love this gun, the length of pull is just right for smaller framed shooters and the weight just screams all day trecks in the woods. Chickie will also love the fact that while there is a LOT to like about this gun, it isn't perfect... :D Loading pellets in the magazine are pretty straight forward, but you will need a probe of some kind (I used a tooth pick) to seat the pellets in the magazine as you can't push them in all the way with your fingers. Not a big deal, but a minor inconvenience. (Are the Varmit magazines the same way?) As I shot the gun it also became apparent that the magazine did not index properly about 20% of the time. I hope that is just because it is still new... :(
I found a more serious flaw, that I think was a bad design by the Chinese, but also easily fixed. The pin that secures the cocking lever to the bolt probe just fell out after I had shot the gun a few times and in essence it just seems to be press fitted in the slot, and can easily work lose and fall out. Luckily for me it fell out on my kitchen floor and I quickly recovered it, but if it had fallen out in the woods, the rifle would be useless until replaced. I am not yet sure the best way to secure the pin, certainly open to suggestions...
The Dominator came with an assortment of O rings, some hex wrenches, a fill probe, and a tool of some sort that is not referenced in the manual that I have not figued out what it is for yet. I did fill the gun to 24 mpa and shot three mags (9 shots each) over the chrony. Every shot fell between 825 fps and 830 fps with AA 25.39 gn pellets for about 39 ft lbs. The gun had not fallen off the regulator yet and I believe a fourth mag could still be shot.
By the time I got the scope mounted it was too dark to shoot any groups, that will have to wait until tomorrow.
My mission for this gun is more power. I will try to get as close as I can get to what I want (north of 50 ft lbs) with the regulator intact, but will remove it if that is not possible. All in all I am pretty pleased with the M16 so far and I think most everyone else will be as well.
-
Could you post a couple close up pictures of the mags ?
-
Sure Manny, will take me a few minutes
-
Steve,
Nice that UPS came thru! Sounds like a good start so far. Do the mags have any screws? Maybe one is a touch to tight and causing some binding? Or maybe some flash or other debris inside the mag.
On the pin. Does it need to move with another part? If not red loctite applied sparingly on the pin will help hold it in place. Another option, put a light peen at each end.
Looking forward to groups ;)
Edit:
Will a magnet stick to the air tube? Still not sure what it's made of...
-
Hi John, a magnet will not stick to the airtube
-
Hi John, a magnet will not stick to the airtube
Thanks Steve! This confirms it's either aluminum, or, titanium like the P15. I'd guess titanium.
Either way, I bet that puppy ain't nose heavy like steel tube guns ;D
Dang it, now I'm even more excited to get mine 8)
-
Hi Manny Pictures of the M16 Mags attached.
-
Not nose heavy at all John. Actually very nicely balanced, especially after adding a scope. Nothing says for sure, but I suspect the tube is titanium.
-
Good news indeed. One of the things I dislike about my
moods MRODS, nose heavy on top of just plain heavy...
I suspect you're right. Makes sense they would use titanium since its already something they are using on other guns to save weight and get the higher fill pressures.
On the mags. I'd loosen and then snug the screws, see if you get better function. I assume they are aluminum? Might need a little lube or some sticky lube removed...
Edit:
Silly spell check...my moods fine, mrods are heavy though.
-
When loading the mags, you said something is needed to fully seat the pellet. What about using the next pellet to be loaded? Shouldn't take much to seat it so I don't think either pellet would get damaged...
-
I suspect that would work John, just happened to be chewing on a toothpick at the time and that worked nicely. I will try another pellet tomorrow when I shoot some more.
-
Congrats on the Dominator Steve! How's the noise? Is it back yard friendly? Thanks!
Ed
-
Hi Manny Pictures of the M16 Mags attached.
OK then, as I suspected they are a close copy of the Evanix mags,
Spray some Ballistol where the tab goes into the mag then without putting pellets in wind the mag up until it stops then with a probe of some kind click the tab so the mag unwinds, repeat a couple times making sure the Ballistil makes it's way into the mechanism.
Now this might work or not, when Evanix 1st came out with this new type mag they skipped chambers at time, Evanix quickly came out with revised versions and there was no more problems,
There's gonna be a chance SPA will have to do that too but hopefully not, how many mags do you have ?
try that little lube workout and see if they improve.
-
Thanks for the tip Manny, I only have one mag right now as I got in too big a hurry when ordering and missed the two mag deal. I will order another or two when Mike has things settled down a bit.
-
Willing to bet that airtube is just like the P12 and P10's... Titanium. Would certainly keep a major source of weight down.
Otherwise, sexy-times Dominator, Steve. I definitely want! Of course, I think you should pass that P12 along to me because I'm cool like that :D I can only imagine how sweet the P15 is.
-
HAHAHA... Sorry Peter I love the P12. It is perfectly balanced for my style of hunting, constantly on the move for several miles in a single hunt. Not to mention that anything out to 100 yards is table fare (except skunk ;D) I just hope the M16 can be tuned to be as good as my P12.

Congrats on the Dominator Steve! How's the noise? Is it back yard friendly? Thanks!

Glad to see they are making their way to our customers.
This is exactly what we need. Input for any development needed.
I simply tested function and shipped em out. (If I waited any longer, the crowd would have rioted) lol
This week, I'm making some parts for the cp2 stocks ect and diving into a bit of tuning and adjustments on the P-15 and dominator.
As much as I can be unbiased (not entirely possible) I can say I
am a fan of the dominator.
Build quality is impressive for the price, so knowing the "use ability" and reliability of this new design is very important to me, so any tweaks or changes possible can be made at the factory for the future.
Looking into the cocking pin you mentioned, and perhaps upgrading this part is in order.
As many here, looking forward to any input especially any issues we can address to the manufacturer.
Thanks for taking the time to post about it.
-
Well, the Dominator can shoot!!! This target is at a lasered 35 yards in VERY Gusty winds. You are looking at 25 shots, and I think if it were not for the wind it could have done sub dime sized groups. (The scope is a Centerpoint Spectrum FFP 3x9x40, pellets are AA 25.4 gn) The gun will only get better the more I shoot it ;D
-
Wow, that's very impressive for a 25-shot group! Most people post 5-shot or even 3-shot groups, which of course tend to be much smaller. A 25-shot group really shows what that gun is capable of.
-
Nice shooting! Did you happen to get any chrony numbers and numbers on regulated shot strings?
-
Hi Dennis my original post showed speeds, ft lbs and talked about shot string. I plan to repeat the test tomorrow now that the gun has a hundred or so pellets through it.
-
Found the shot string info. Thanks! With regulator performance like that, adding a HUMA reg would not be a step up in ES! The more I hear the more impressed I am!
-
Holy Moly Steve...That is Amazing ! Good Gun..Great Shooting...Incredible Shot Group ! 35 yards-25 shots- strong gusty winds-- WOW ! Best Wishes. - Tom

Congrats on the Dominator Steve! How's the noise? Is it back yard friendly? Thanks!

(about 39 ft lbs)"
Thanks John, I missed it. I plead senility! :-[

Congrats on the Dominator Steve! How's the noise? Is it back yard friendly? Thanks!

Thanks Tom, the sun, moon, and stars don't line up this well often, and I was trying really hard to wring everything I could out of the Dominator. This one has some great potential, but I really want to extract more power and hope the accuracy stays with it.
-
Yeah, in a .25 you really want North of 50 FPE at least, and close to 60 would be even better

Bullocks. They make a 19.91 gr pellet in 25 cal...have fun shooting that at subsonic speeds to obtain 50+ FPE.
Diablo pellets and their Ballistic Co efficiency generally are peaked around 850~ FPS.
That means..
19.91 gr = 32 FPE @ 850 fps (plenty of hunting power)
25.4 gr = 40 FPE @ 850 fps (common tune for 25.4 gr's)
33.9 gr = 54 FPE @ 850 fps (overkill for most pests, stepping into medium game power..)
Its one thing to have a personal preference in power, but to state .25 cals need to be shooting north of 50 fpe and near 60 fpe is not a great blanket statement.

Great !!! ...Glad you like your 850 fps,
I prefer 900 and up.
Baracuda Hunters and Benji domes 28gr 900 fps 50 FPE
Baracuda 31 gr 900 fps 56 FPE
JSB 34gr 900 fps 61 FPE
if I want to shoot in the -/+ 40 FPE range I get me a .22 :) :) :)
-
I'm curious about how much shorter the barrel on the M16 is compared to the M10 ?
(not including the shroud or LDC's on either gun).
-
Ron, it is a little hard to tell the exact length without taking it off the gun, but it appears to be close enough to call it an 18 inch barrel.
-
Matt, I am sure you are correct about the ballistics coefficiency but that is only one of the many things that go into preferences for hunting tuning. I have a .22 cal P12 that is tuned to shoot 18 gn pellets at 36 ft lbs, is deadly accurate, and capable of taking most any small game. I also have a .22 cal M10 shooting 25 gn pellets at 53 ft lbs and is also deadly at 100 yards.
The reason I purchased the .25 cal is to have a gun that goes to that next level and does indeed take me to the medium game capability. I expect it to be as powerful or more so than my M10 so I want it as close to 60 ft lbs as possible, and at greater than 900 fps preferably. I have had a .25 cal Airforce Condor and an Airforce Escape that could hit 90 ft lbs for a few shots so I have a good idea what pellet weight and speed works best for me.
The good news is that I have plenty of the .25 cal Benji Domes and Baracudas so 900 fps gets me right in the mix I am looking for with that ammo.

The Dominator went on it's first hunt this morning and my initial impression is... WOW this is nice!!! (For you rim fire shooters, the M16 brought back many years of woods walking with a Marlin Model 60) The Dominator felt super light and even with the moderator on the end, just seemed shorter than any gun I have owned except the P12. Speaking of the moderator, I did fire the rifle a few times without it and there is a significant difference with it on, so it does do it's job well.
The hunt started about 8:30 am, temp 56 degrees and finished at about 1:00pm temperature about 85 degrees. In that time I covered about 4 miles, saw several deer, tons of pig tracks (but alas no pigs), almost got within range of a flock of crows but they were chasing a hawk and he flew the opposite direction from me. Not sure where all the squirrels were hiding but saw none this time. I was able to take a starling at about 40 yards and there is no question my Dominator is deadly accurate.
I also shot a couple of small cans at a lasered 93 yards and the rifle can easily reach out and touch something when you need it to. While the trigger is not too bad out of the box, I do believe it would be better with a little polishing, etc. There doesn't really seem to be a first stage/second stage, just tension the trigger and fire.
Can't wait for Mike to weigh in on some tuning tips so I can crank the power up a bit.
-
Hey do you feel like posting a bunch of pictures of your rifle :) :)
....How's the magazine working, did it get better ?
-
Manny, I am happy to post pictures of the rifle, the only reason I have not is because I have been too busy adjusting and shooting it. ;D ;D
I did add sling studs this afternoon so will post after I pick up the sling tomorrow. So far, I have not found any other issues, and the magazine is beginning to index better. ( I think with a little more shooting and the lube I applied it will be fine.)
I can say that I am not too fond of the FFP scope I have mounted on the rifle. I found out while in the woods this morning that the first lower crosshatch on the reticle corresponds to just under 100 yards at the 830 fps that the gun is currently shooting. Will probably replace it with a Hawke that is on one of my other two SPA rifles.

Wayne is this the same rifle as the M16 on the Krale website?
Matt
-
Yes it's the same basic rifle, I know that Mike does have options when he orders them so they might be technically a little different. I've read that the stateside SPA guns come with bigger transfer ports in them but don't know that for sure. I know that when I took my Varmint apart I couldn't believe the size of the transfer port, they're huge.

I'm wondering if the smaller transfer port is to comply with the 12FPE law?
-
I'm getting the rings for this scope, bought this for $68.95 on sale, this is what I'll be putting on the Dominator Friday but for the time being I'll slap on a compact 4x scope I've got just to go out and have some fun with it.

Doubtful. Krale ships worldwide. Plus several markets in the EU are not power-restricted.

Makes perfect sense.
Price wise there doesn't appear to be any advantage to buy from Mrod Air then.

You'll pay quite a bit more from krale. If you add 30 euros shipping that's 520 something US$ then you will have duties to pay as well. MRODAIR is $490 shipping included.

I'm sooo looking forward to seeing reviews from you guys on these guns worthy of the $500 pricetag. No doubt in my mind that the lower end offerings from SPA are worth every penny of their sub $200 ticket. I guess I expect a lot for one costing 2 and 1/2+ times what they do.

Can't disagree with that.
That's why I'm just "window shopping" for now. No use doing something rash like I did with my Varmint.
Wondering if it uses the same low quality orings that are in the Varmint.

That's part of what I'm waiting to see.

Are the P15 and M16 lever actions the same?

Hi guys!!
No time to catch up now, just checking in to see if the Big D had hit the scene, and to say I am safely here, and that I sent word on to Mike to ship mine to me!!
Yay for the D! Yay for Dixie!!!
:-)
-
I spent the weekend playing with the MKII with my Ultradot Matchdot II just trying to get everything right at 10 meters. Seems pretty good now the rest is up to me. Still working on the indoor range and I need to add better lighting.
Bill I have not even taken the time to set the Condor back up and test her. My bipod arrived so I will get to her this week.
The Dominator looks and feels great cocking is pretty smooth not that I have any experience with levers.

I'm interested in hearing how you think it stacks up next to the Hatsan AT44. The synthetic stock AT44 is a bit cheaper on clearance, but I don't think that was available in .25. The Dominator sure is a nice looking rifle!
I got my AT44S 10 QE in .25 from field supply for $299.99. Last I checked they were still available.
Do You have Link for field supply ? Searched but no Find

I'm getting just 28-29 fpe with the JSB 18.13's with my Dominator. I had to take the trigger apart on mine because of a bad assembly from the factory, it's working good now though.

I'm getting just 28-29 fpe with the JSB 18.13's with my Dominator. I had to take the trigger apart on mine because of a bad assembly from the factory, it's working good now though.
Isn't it likely that it's because it's still new. Things need to break in ?
-
I thought the extra time it took to get them shipped was so they could be checked out?
Did I misunderstand?
-
I decided to use up some Beeman copper plated pellets because I'm not a real big fan of them. They probably speed up the breaking in of the barrel.
Yeah Bill there were some trigger parts that were hanging loose in the trigger mecha, a pin and lever.
It's shooting good now though but I've got some adjusting to do next time I take it apart. I'd really like to see an exploded view of this gun, I wonder if they're similar to the P12 ??? My first goal is getting the regulator turned up cause right now the way it is I can get a lot of shots, at least 40+ anyway. I really don't like wasting a lot of pellets, much rather use them in the Field.

The fit and finish really is nice, German Beech ??? It looks good though.

That is what i thought also.
-
Wayne,
Here's the exploded view.
-
Thats great John thanks a lot for the pdf. Now I'll be able to see how that reg is in there hopefully. The hammer spring adjustment on it is right there once you take the stock off too it looked like.
-
Wayne,
Mine delivers tomorrow so I still haven't fondled one yet...
Sure looks like the hammer spring adjustment is right on the back of the breech just looking at the exploded view.
Not sure on the reg adjustment. I'd assume it's adjusted at the front via a nut or screw...hard to tell from the exploded view.
-
John thanks so much for the M16 exploded view. Wayne, how are your magazine(s) performing? I had a little trouble with mine, but it is getting better with use.
-
Wayne,
Did your .22 come with a single shot tray? Was the weight on yours close to Steve's 6lb?
Steve, glad to help. I emailed Julie at SPA for the exploded view shortly after ordering mine.
-
I thought the extra time it took to get them shipped was so they could be checked out?
Did I misunderstand?
That is what i thought also.
"Oh! what a tangled web we weave/When first we practice to deceive!"
-
Thanks again John, mine in .25 cal did not come with a single shot tray, but I did load a few single shot and it is not too difficult. (at least with the bigger .25 lead)
-
So this gun is like a Benjamin marauder but single shot? I was tempted to get this rifle in the past. Of course wayne is always pressuring me into these guns with his hunting stories haha.
-
Thanks Steve,
If it's not to hard single loading then I don't really care if it has a single shot tray. I just like sighting in and shooting over a chrony single loading, makes me take my time and gives a reg'd gun time for the pressure to stabilize again.
-
John, did Julie pass along any information on tuning the regulator? It looks like, from the exploded view, that it will have to be removed to be adjusted...
-
Steve,
I didn't ask. She's been very helpful getting me parts for my MKII and exploded views, not sure she'd be the person to ask about tuning.
I'm certain the reg will have to be removed for adjustment. I assume, the nut looking shape at the front of the reg is the adjustment. Or, there is a screw inside that nut looking end... could be it's not adjustable at all but I doubt that.
I just might degass and tear the air tube apart before I fire a shot....wouldn't be the first time a new gun was in pieces right out of the box!
-
So this gun is like a Benjamin marauder but single shot? I was tempted to get this rifle in the past. Of course wayne is always pressuring me into these guns with his hunting stories haha.
Huhh ?? ....nothing about the M16 is like a Marauder.
-
Again thanks John, I know the Huma replacement is adjustable, I hope the China one is as well. If not I will have to remove it to see what the M16 can do without it. Since it seemed like I was the first to receive mine, I HAD to do some shooting right away, so tuning had to wait... ;D
-
Huma is probably a better and more precise reg. Time will tell how good or bad the SPA reg is.
Looking at the exploded view. I think, the flats on the body of the reg is how you would hold it so the nut looking end can be loosened or tightened to decrease or increase pressure by compressing or decompressing the Belleville stack.
Of course, SPA could have just picked a pressure, stacked Belleville's and shims to get that pressure leaving the reg non adjustable via compressing or decompressing the stack....this would not be good.
The reg could still be adjusted by changing the stack and or adding removing shims, I'd prefer a simple screw adjustment myself...
-
Looks nice so far, how's the trigger compared to the m rod?
-
Is there a vent hole in the air tube for the reg? I would like to remove the reg and let it unregged...
Thks
-
John thanks so much for the M16 exploded view. Wayne, how are your magazine(s) performing? I had a little trouble with mine, but it is getting better with use.
I jumped the gun when I ordered this gun and only got one mag with it but it's been working flawlessly so far, no mis feeds etc, however once you've shot all the pellets in the mag it will still cock but you can tell by the way that it would normally load another pellet that there's non left. I need to order about 3 more mags for it by the looks of it. No single shot tray with mine, I kinda wish there was but in reality I probably wouldn't use it much.
-

All, there is now a second report of the pin that holds the bolt handle to the bolt falling out. Mike, not sure if you are still checking these posts but this may be something to report back to SPA about?
-
Steve,
What is the exploded view # for this pin? I see several pins, not sure what one is falling out. I'm guessing #9...
My M16 is out for delivery, come on UPS dude!!!
-
John it appears to be #39, bolt pin, based on what I see in the exploded diagram. It connects part number #10 to part number #12.
-
Ok, I get it now. We were talking about the same pivot point, I just got the wrong # pin.
May I assume that pin creates a pivot with the arm that connects to the bolt probe? If so, maybe staking each end of the pin on the cocking lever would solve the problem? wouldn't take much of a stake, just enough burr to hold the pin, you could still drive the pin out if needed.
I'm still waiting on the UPS dude....
-
You are correct John about the pivot point.
That might possibly work, but it is hard to tell if the pin is metal or plastic. The other report of this pin dropping out came from a P15 owner so I assume the bolt linkage must be the same for the two. I did just look at my pin and it is perfectly smooth top to bottom so must just be press fitted in the slot and easily works loose.
I am trying the blue locktite fix to see if that will hold it, but because it is perfectly smooth I am afraid it will break lose and fall out again.
-
My gun must have missed inspection....
ZERO psi in it and the barrel is pointing to the left. Yep, that pin is gona fall out.
6lb 4.5oz on my postal scale with out LDC or scope.
Gota say, I'm not impressed so far....
Edit for pictures and, I worked the lever half a dozen times, the pin nearly fell out.......
-
A press pin to connect the parts on a lever action is a pretty bad Idea, The pin in the Evanix lever action screws in so it can't go anywhere.
-
Very sorry to hear about your tribulations so far John. My Dominator came about half filled. What appears to be causing your barrel issue?
As for missing inspection, my Dominator was double boxed and did not appear to have been opened since leaving the factory...
-
Fairly certain it's just the barrel band outa wack, WAY outa wack. Not sure if I want to mess with this or just send it back.
Huh, mine was single boxed in a generic cardboard box...... it was surrounded with fitted foam.
-
You are right Manny, the press pin was a bad idea. If the locktite does not work for my rifle I think Harbor Freight has a roll pin selection that will fit. May be my next attempt.
-
The lever looks to be cast, forget staking the pin...
-
Holy Smokes John, I just saw your pictures, that barrel is way off. Thanks for the great picture of the Pivot Pin falling out before you ever fired a shot. Unfortunately it looks like that one needs to go back to Mike... :(
-
I removed the air stripper, have to wonder if the barrel is bent. Mike will be getting a call first thing tomorrow.
-

It's not the barrel that is bent,....unscrew the barrel band and let the barrel come around straight again, than tighten the barrel band screws back on, stuff like that can happen when the gun get banged a bit.
that pin/lever action design is very poor indeed.
-
NP,
Yeah, I get that. BUT the barrel actually hit the shroud hard enough to make a "PING" noise when I pulled the stripper off....it was under some tension! barrel may not be bent, I'm not sure I want to go into this gun any farther without talking with Mike first..
-
Wait, how can the barrel hit the shroud ? .....is there no support to keep the shroud aligned to the barrel ?
-
I removed the air stripper, have to wonder if the barrel is bent. Mike will be getting a call first thing tomorrow.
I see now,...that is a terrible design, the barrel NEEDS to have a support where the shroud rides on and keeps everything centered.
-
As you can see in the picture John, mine came double boxed, so not sure if I got lucky or you got unlucky...
-
NP, the support would be the air stripper. Heck with it,I'm going in DEEP boys!!!!
Barrel is threaded into the breech and was LOOSE. It rolled cleanly on a flat surface, not bent.
The trigger groups screws LOOSE, one not even snugged down.........
Pic of the reg adjustment.
Pressure gauge was LOOSE. This may be where the air leaked out.
All in all, VERY poor assembly. My gun must have been built by a union man, an hour before quitting time on Friday :o
-
My barrel was also a little loose when I took it off for cleaning. I am not sure that it did not loosen up when I unscrewed the air stripper though. I do not remember seeing any O rings on the barrel itself, and the set screws on top of the breach do not hold it so the threads seem to be all that is holding the barrel in place?
-
LOL, they just put the guns together without tightening anything ?
-
Before we get John too discouraged, I want to point out again that while my Dominator is not currently making the power I want, it is shooting very accurately and the magazine seems to be indexing properly so carry on John, there is light at the end of the tunnel... ;D
It looks like the blue locktite may hold the pivot pin in place so maybe that issue will be solved as well.
Now for that regulator... we need to know the adjustment ins/outs... :o
-
Well, its all back together. Cleaned, lubed, screws tight W/loctite ::) and everything is straight now.
It didn't blow up when I put air to it, good sign. It's holding air so far, I'll know tomorrow if I still have a leak.
If you want to remove the pellet probe, you'll need a small socket, to remove the bolt cocking pin. Not sure what size it is as I can't get calipers on it to measure... 3mm, maybe smaller :o
Since the mag loads in from the left side, I had to remove my small, 60mm AO side wheel..... The hits keep coming!
-
Wow what a cluster had some interest but gonna wait this one out no hurry here. Still not sure about this new asian invasive species.
-
Still had a small leak....
Since the fill end is very much like the air max MKII, which has leaked several times here...I check it first. Yep, bubbles coming out of the fill probe hole.
You have to remove the pressure gauge, spring and cover, then barrel band. Now, use a large punch inserted into the fill probe hole to loosen it. Once the fill end is screwed out of the air tube, you need to remove the small flat head screw that's inside. This screw has a shoulder that an o ring seals against along with the end cap itself. This o ring, had a TINY sliver embedded in it causing the leak. I just replaced it since I have a bunch of these o rings...
Put it all back together, air it up. Now I just have to wait and see if this was the only leak....
-
NP, the support would be the air stripper.
WOW, now that is a weird design.
So you can't choose to shoot the gun without the LDC for a shorter carbine style,...basically forced to keep the LDC on, ...funky.
-
Nope, the air stripper has a shoulder that supports the shroud. The stripper screws on to the end of the barrel, putting tension on the shroud as it pulls into the breech. The LDC threads are at the end of this stripper. You do get a thread protector for the air stripper.
The gun is not at all backyard friendly using just the air stripper/shroud. Hunting, it would be hearing safe for sure. With the LDC, it's backyard friendly but not by much IMHO. It's certainly not SUMO or rocker1 quiet ;)
-
John, hopefully you are going to get some shots fired from the Dominator today. Thanks again for all the pictures as you made your way through the dis-assembly and re-assembly. I expect as soon as we know more about tuning the regulator I will have mine apart also. I checked all the external bolts but have not checked tightness of the ones with the stock off. I will let you know if the locktite is holding the pivot pin, it seemed like it was working last night but the locktite needed to set up all night to be sure.
-
Now for some good news.
No leak, it's exactly where is was when I put it away last night. I ran some shots over the chrony, low 900's with H&N 14.3 ft pellets that I'm going to use for reg break in. I can already see the reg is working, and, I hesitate to say working very well! Once I get a couple hundred pellets thru I'll do some full strings.
I'm sighted in for ten yards right now,to dark for outside shooting yet. didn't take much to get the scope close and as of right now I have one hole groups. I hope that continues out to 25yds once the sun's up!
Single loading is easy even without a tray. I cycled my two mags twice each so far, feed and index perfectly.
-
Great to hear! Looking forward to seeing some shot strings and targets.
-
Wes last night I dug up a scope I'd forgotten I had, also found some medium rings and used the 11mm adaptors to make them work
Six shots on the left are sight in and 5 on the right are 3/8ths center to center at 20 yards. Yep these come with good barrels too.

y'all want green loctite on that pin. Blue won't do anything, red might hold a bit, but green should solve the problem if it's anything tight on the fit.
-
Great news John, seems you are about in business. Wayne's results mirror my results, and I was able to get very good groups at 35 yards as well.
-
Looks like a gun for those with a bit of savvy. I can surely see controversy down the road for those without. It appears that SPA has some issues in the design after all. Even more so than just poor quality O-rings. I must have been mistaken when I thought I heard that each gun was to be checked over before the retailer sent them out. I guess it would be ok if you go into it with the "it is what it is" attitude. So, far I've only heard of one SPA gun being returned with unsatisfactory results.
My question is..
If you open the gun to tweak and tighten... If you put Loctite on a pin... and afterwards find an issue that can't be fixed with duct tape and bubble gun. Will you be able to return it for replacement or full refund?
-
I have only been with pcp a short time but from what I have read there does not seem to be a pcp gun without some kind of issues. Maybe a RAW or WAR but pretty much every gun out there seems to come with an issue of it's own. I wonder is the the nature of the beast, or just bad QC in the industry?
-
I'm a bit disappointed that a manufacturer would let such sloppy assembly out of the factory. Design flaws and R&D in the field are more difficult to correct. Building a business and brand loyalty should have a strong basis in QC. Has some airgun marketing become a matter of "You need to work on it before you shoot it"? Seems like a little better customer care and QC is in order. I have owned Chinese products that work as intended, some not so much. Is selling products that are not market ready or prototypes in process a legitimate way to do business? Sometimes I wish John Browning was alive and designing and building airguns.
-
I know of at least one other Chinese gun retailer that would not let a gun out of his door with these types of issues. Too bad he couldn't get his hands on these.
-
I hear you guys and agree, I remember when I first started looking at PCP several years ago Norm had Disco here in NH and he used to inspect and check everyone before selling and I can only imagine he did this because there were issues with these guns.
-
Well, the H&N 14.66 FTT's shot gunned at 25yds :o
JSB 18.13's, JSB 15.89, AA 16.0, H&N 21.14 BCM, CPHP and CPDUM all shot EXCELLENT :D
Here's 15 shots of 14.3 CPDUM. The shots slight left were the last couple clicks of scope adjustment, 4 shots. I then shot a full mag, PULLING the slightly high shot ::) These are going to be my backyard pellet. I'm only shooting them at 20FPE, plenty for 25yds or less shots that will mostly be on paper.... Not sure how many shots I'll get from a fill as I haven't shot a full string at this tune, it will be a BUNCH!!!
-
Nice John, glad to see everything came together. I did shoot my .25 cal from a full fill to falling off the reg this afternoon and it shot 3 1/2 mags. You should get even more in .22 cal. at that power level.

In theory and that's what MRod Air states on their web sites but that's not my experience. I won't elaborate on the particulars as to why this has been my experience because it's being contested.
Safe to say a warranty or guarantee is only as good as the company or person backing it up.
-
Hmmm.... Glad I got my M10s at the closeout price, and glad I read about the M16s here before assuming that they would be just as trouble-free.
Looks like my SPA buying spree will have a gap in it, at least until the M30 is released.

Nothing better than a gun that loves inexpensive pellets. I hope the gun makes you happy for a long time to come. I have several that do and some that don't. Those won't be around long.
-
Overall, it was an OKAY purchase. No, I was not happy with what came out of the box. Luckily, everything that was wrong was a simple adjustment, bad O ring or simply tightening screws that should have been tight to begin with.
The gun shoots straight(don't use H&N FFT's :o) The trigger is good after some tweaking of the adjustments. Mags feed perfectly. It's just, backyard friendly with the included LDC. if someone makes an adapter or air stripper with 1/2-20 threads I'll buy one, my SUMO would make this puppy near silent I think.
I changed up the scope ring placement, got my side wheel back on. As it sits, with the UTG 3-12 compact scope, medium rings, 60mm side wheel and bipod, the gun is 8lb 15.7oz.(8lb 3.7oz without bipod) Not bad, NOT, close to the 5lb weight Mrodair advertised either.(bare gun is 6lb 4oz)
I do not think its a $500 gun. $350-400 would be priced right IMHO.

No doubt, for $500 at least send me some walnut and tighten a screw or two... please?

One last thing,
Does everyone's Dominator have STINK butt? The recoil pad STINKS!!! weird chemical/rubbery smell. it's going bye bye if it don't air out some ;) I cleaned it with some soapy water thinking it might have been a release agent, didn't help. I will say, SPA did a very nice job of fitting the smelly thing...
-
I ate home made spaghetii last night with Italian sausage and an abundance of spices and it would have been hard to tell if it was the gun or me when I was shooting earlier today... :o I did not notice the recoil pad smell until you said something but it does have a chemical odor if I smell it up close.
My gun with scope and sling weighs almost exactly 8 lbs so agree, the bare gun is not 5lbs, Mike should change that on his web page.
-
Betty Lou said the Plinkster had a swamp azz smell out of the box but, we didn't notice it last night while shooting so, evidently it fades. My sense of smell has been gone a long time... but, that's a story not worthy of this forum.
-
I grew up assembling Heathkit and Dynakit electronic equipment. Well written manuals and high quality parts made for superb gear that worked very well and lasted forever. I still have some working. Perhaps an airgun maker could do the same.
-
Nice shooting at pistol range (25yds), I'd like to see how it does when you open it up to 50, 75 and 100 yards. That'll tell the story.
I want to see guns that can be a tack driver at least to 50 yards minimum, if not 75.
Granted I spent a lot more on mine, but they'll absolutely stack pellets in 1 hole at 50/75 yds if I do my part. Frankly, with a rifle, I don't even mess around at anything less than 50 yards these days.
And what happened to the bullpup? That was the mrodair one I was interested in most, though had some interest in the bottle gun too and really liked the pic of the one w/ the air chamber over the barrel. That was cool!

Looking good Wayne! Looking like both yours and John's are shooting well anyways, 50 yards will be great to see next!

Yeah that m 30 is interesting, really want to see videos of that.

Looks like it's going to be a while before the M30's are available on the market.

Ordered my stock and grip set for the CP-1 last night after receiving an e-mail from Mike. I posted it in the "feed the beast" thread.
Now I am deciding to order just the stock for my CP1M in .177 or both it and a complete set in .22
-
I am going to call Mike today to see if I can just buy the barrel upgrade kit for my CP-1 as opposed to buying a whole new gun.
Also.... maybe we should start a new thread to keep from getting to far off topic on this one.

Keep us posted on what you find out, I'd be interested in the longer barrel with LDC also.

A person could actually make something very similar to the HiPAK for this gun. If it's the same valve as it's bigger sister Varmint it would work with the carbines very nicely. After all I've been hearing on this forum how much of a lego gun the SPA's can be.
-
Keith started a new thread.... I'll post updates there..
Thanks Keith.

Hey Y'all!!
My 25 Dom will arrive next Tuesday, yay!!!
I've been super swamped here, as expected, but loving being back in the sweetness of the South once again, oh, my, yes!!
I hope y'all are doing great, ttyl!
:-) chickie
-
Where are you 'in the South'? The Low Country event is next weekend, come on, should be fun. Cross, SC.
-
My regulator quit regulating.....
It was working pretty darn good. I shot down to about reg pressure, Or what I think is the set point of 130 bar. I thought the last few shots were sounding hotter but didn't check any across my chrony. I topped off the tube to 220 bar, not a full fill but close enough. First shot sounded off, slow. so did the second.
I shot a couple over the chrony, was shooting 800-810. Now, all the sudden I'm at 550...
I kept shooting, sure enough, the shots were getting faster and faster as tube pressure dropped.
I'll be tearing the reg apart I guess. I'm hoping, its just an O ring leaking FULL tube pressure past the Reg...
-
It was an O ring!!
The little brass screw that is used to adjust reg pressure ALSO has an air passage that's sealed with an O ring on either side :o
The O rings looked ok but I replaced them anyway. The lower O ring, if not sealed, would allow FULL tube pressure to bypass the delrin seat at the end of the reg spool. That's what was happening.
Once I replaced these two O rings, I put 220bar of air to it, first shot, 800 :D
-
John do you remove the tube when you adjust or repair the regulator.
-
Wayne,
Yes, the air tube has to come off. The air tube is 3 pieces. The fill end, tube and the end that threads onto the breech. This end also threads INTO the tube. This is where the reg is. The reg will also unscrew from this end cap so to speak.
You can adjust the reg by just removing the tube portion, assuming it screws off the end cap, leaving the end cap still attached to the breech like mine did...
If this does not happen, then you'll need to hold the tube and screw out the end cap to access the reg. The end cap, end, has four pin holes, if you have a pin wrench that fits, then you could simply clamp the tube in a vice that has non marring jaws or wrap it with something so its not damaged and use the pin wrench to unscrew the end cap from the tube.
-
Well, well, well..
35 days and 17 pages of speculation aside, My new .25 SPA M16 (Air Max Dominator) is finally in da house!
She's loud and proud, but I'ma get a Rocker1 Dominatrix Special on 'er, she'll quiet right down, you'll see!!
Well, I'll start a new thread once the technical mumbo-jumbo starts to bubble forth, but for now, yeah, she's finally home!
First impression??
I paid waay too much for her. This is a great gun at it's real market value, but not such a deal at the US price. In the future, I would prefer to not be price-gouged..
At $350-$375, yeah, that's a proper price. At almost $500? No. Never again..
Now, that said, I own it now, and I will make it work best it can. But, never again. Did I mention that already?
Yeah. Not happy about the terms, but I do still feel the gun will be a winner. Especially when priced appropriately!!
*sigh*

I completely agree. I was generous, earlier in this thread when I said $350-400.....
-
I think I remember saying that right out of the gate..... way overpriced and out of my range for something unproven and from a Chinese company that gave us the B series tool truck guns. I think we are settling in and the smoke is clearing around the Varmint. The fact that they almost got it right and then some brainiac said "hey, I found a great deal on O-rings" One can almost understand that mass produced gun might need a bit of TLC to soften die stamped slots and such but, a clear choice to save a mere couple cents per gun? Is the M series the same? Well, so far.... looks like ... yep.
-
Think I'll have another look at that GAMO Urban.
-
Think I'll have another look at that GAMO Urban.
I already have two of those, lol, and am working on a build for my SIL with a third, ha!

Well, the risks were obvious, and the handwriting was on the wall about over-pricing, too. I'm not a regretter/remorser, lol, but I am somebody that remembers being taken advantage of by somebody.
I think the potential with these guns is always gonna be the lure. but now that the market KNOWS better, you'll see more price 'corrections'..
Krale has the M10 at 243 Euros, the CP2 at 139 Euros, and in camo, and the LR700W at 169 Euros, and I would bet the farm they are stocking the newest 'versions', not the left overs we got like with the .177 Varmints. I don't much care for duplicity, and such...
Grr.
-
The Dominator is the M16 and is the exact same price on Krale-schietsport.nl once you convert to dollars as what you guys paid plus you got free shipping, and the CP2 is only $13 more than Krale, though you make a good point about the camo version not being available, lol, I was really liking the looks of that Camo!
The other dealers that I found of the cp2 seem to want 199 euros so they are way over priced in a lot of countries.
I did find a p15 for $379US at toymart.pk with super cheap shipping!
-
Getting thoughts from my head to my fingers may not be my strong point.... at least not in a way that others may "get my drift". I'm not at all remorseful. Heck, I'm not even sorry for my choice of vendor, for that matter. As I've pointed out several times... one of our all time favorite Chinese gun vendors don't provide tracking, answer the phone whenever it rings or respond to e-mails. Albeit, he is a slave to his love for his hobby and commitment to his fellow airgunner.
Not my point.... My point is, SPA is undisputedly (my opinion) at the forefront of innovation in the low end realm of air guns. And to drop the ball over the cost of an o-ring or quality of a regulator is mind boggling.

The ball-dropping extends into other areas of manufacture and business practices.
Not a company that inspires confidence, not in my view.
But, yes, the design work is great for the price-point. I stand by that statement, and my statements about poor suppliers and their practices.
There is no justifiable reason that the products cannot be right, the distribution professional, and the pricing commensurate with value.
The rag-tag approach has resulted in rag-tag practices.
-
Looking forward to other vendors getting their hands on these guns (if it happens) and see how they do with them.

I saw that.
If I had money to blow, I'd make a couple investments into P-15s. Shipping from Pakistan seems to be very inexpensive, too.
Right now SPA is a hot commodity. And when you look at what you get for the money, it's still a good value. All I have to do is ask how many Crosman owners have had to buy aftermarket barrels for their .22 PCPs.
At least with SPA, the barrels for the most part are very good. I also take the approach I did working in the Navy on very very expensive high-dollar HPA air equipment. Why should a $750,000 valve need rebuilding every 6 months if is passed MIL-SPEC testing? And yet every single time, despite using surgical precision and practically a Clean Room environment, the O-rings would fail. and these were not cheapo Chinese rubber. And DO NOT GET ME STARTED on regulators. Vaaco is a dirty word in my my house, and it's still the best name out there.
So yeah, my views are skewed. I still say nobody can touch SPA regarding what you get for the money. Hatsan is a distant second place.
And I'm sure if you look around at other manufacturers where you pay a whole lot more, you still run the risk. I'd rather do it on a $400 airgun than a $2000 airgun.
-
I own, umm, seven SPAs? I get the 'value' thing, and then some..
And yes, the lower tier models are a HUGE value, even if still over-priced (where ever the market supports it). But, I know the actual wholesale numbers and the retail numbers, too, soooo, my 'feelings' may run deeper than a guess about the M-series guns.
I would love to spill my guts about the whole she-bang, but prudence tells me 'no'.
Once the market stabilizes, the market will decide the price point, but until the supply line is secure, the market cannot stabilize...
That's what I can say.

I hear you about the price compared to what snow peak charges Chickie! Unless there is some serious amount of duties on these guns, they gotta be selling them for pennies on the dollar they are going for. I bought a bunch of parts from Snowpeak and am in the process of buying more, just got a price list of parts on the Pr900w and Cp1 to make my own CP2, Edit: Amazing prices on parts is all I should say! Good on them, and I hope it stays this way!

WesBob,
This is what I meant about the 'price corrections' in the market:
https://www.krale-schietsport.nl/en/spa-m10.html (https://www.krale-schietsport.nl/en/spa-m10.html)
This new price is actually where the M-10 should be selling.
At $290, this gun makes sense. The M16s should be about $350-$375...
The only way my .25 Dominator was worth $499, even with two magazines, would have been if the seller had also thrown in a .22 CP2 Master Blaster in the deal..
I love the guns, just not the bumpy buyer interface paradigm, if'n ya catch me drift, mhmm..

Ok, yeah, I see the M10 picture on Mrodair's site but he no longer seems to be selling it on his storefront, at least I can't find it. Can't blame him really though for selling the Dominator for the same as Krale is, I mean, you're right it probably should be going for less, but with no other competetion, not much incentive I'd say. Anyway, I hear what you are saying, and appreciate your evaluation on these guns. Still wishing I could get one of those Varmint's myself, maybe will pick one up from overseas yet!

It would be one thing to just put them up for sale at the inflated price, but it's another thing altogether to hype up the gun on a forum and pretend the price is awesome, when it is not actually awesome. One is a passive sale, the other, a 'promotion'..
-
LOL..... yet they sold.... and still are.

The last time Mike sold the M10's was for $269.
There you go, so he's actually selling them quite a bit cheaper than you can get any of the guns shipped from krale. I know I'd be buying from Mike if he would risk trying to get them over the border!

I'ma let it rest.

I'm not so sure why, but it seems like the new has worn off the M16 very quickly, and SPA seems to be taking a bit of a verbal beating. I have no fight with all this, but for the record I have owned a P12 for almost two years and it holds air forever, is very accurate, and I have not had to do anything to it except adjust the hammer spring to shoot the particular pellet ft lb that I want.
My Dominator is in .25 cal, and the most serious issue that I have had with it is the pin that was coming lose on the bolt handle, that was fixed with blue loctite. Mine is holding air just fine so far. It does not produce the power I want, but what it does produce is consistant shots and great accuracy. Was it worth the money I paid? That is a pretty subjective question, that I can only answer by saying I have paid much more for an airgun and came away feeling less satisfied.
Are the SPA guns perfect, not by a long shot, but then neither were my Condor, my Escape, my BT65, my Bullboss, or most any of my other guns. I also never thought ANY of those guns should have cost me what I paid for them, but alas I bought them anyway.

And I'll most likely buy more..... at the right price. Definitely if the LR700W shows up in the states.

My issue with the Dominator is not with the gun, but with the mark-up...
-
So, what is the standard mark up on a given product, like 40%?
-
When comparing my Varm to the Dom I think there is maybe $100.00 more value your paying for a reg. and a side lever. So a $300 increase no way, maybe if the quality was much better but it is about the same. Everything is very good for a China product without a lot of US QC behind it. But what we are paying for is an advanced or upgraded model not a higher set of standards.
-
I've been carrying a tin of pellets when I'm out with my Dominator, heck with all the shots I can get just filling to the 220bar mark I still get a bunch of good shots. If I feel like going hog wild I can.
The main thing that I'm liking about all my SPA guns is the amazing accuracy I'm getting with them all. That's one thing about them, they didn't screw around when making barrels for them, they definitely did that part right. I also like the fit and finish on them all as well. I think I need to take my clip apart for my Dominator, I did make the mistake of putting it in my dirty pocket on my jeans and I think I got some dirt in it. I think I'll address that problem before the next time I go out with it, right now sounds like good as time as any ;)
Well I see nobody has posted since last time so right at the moment I'm putting it back together after hunting on the floor for a screw & washer, I found them though.
It's now back together ready to go :D

How to translate a gross margin percentage into a markup percentage:
•Convert the gross margin percent into a decimal: 47.9% = .479
•Find the gross cost: 1 – .479 = .521
•Invert it: 1 / .521 = 1.919
•Subtract one: 1.919 – 1 = 0.919
•Convert back into a percentage: 0.919 = 91.9%
•That’s the markup: 91.9%
Maybe I was a bit low....

I accidentally wound a mag up while empty, I thought it was like a BSA mag and would unwind by itself, but no, lol..
Overall, I think mine's gonna be a shooter, too, Wayne, though the pistol grip area of the stock fits me funny. The Varm is really 'handy' to handle, the Dom, not so much. And it is a wee, wee bit front heavy. Not as much as an Urban or AT44 or Marauder, but a tiny bit, enough to be noticed. I am hoping my soon-to-be Rocker1 thingy will be lighter than the factory thingamajig, as was the case on my Varmimts, and that will help. I am already thinking of going tactical with mine, anyway, and that will give me re-balancing options, too. No worries, even as it is, it is handy enough..
-
I'm listening along, but I also know a couple things: I've been sort-of following Steve (SmythSG) and his P-12 for a while- longer than I've been a member here. When he decided to thin out his herd, he kept the P-12. And I've had my own "Match Grade single shot regulated pistol" from SPA close to a year. When I bought my PP700, there was very little information about them on the int@rw3bs. I'm still thrilled about my pistol, and he still loves his bullpup.
I use these as my standards. Both inexpensive for what they offer, and both are accurate. My Varmint should prove the same, as they've been "in the wild" for over a year. :) These other SPA guns- we just gotta get them worked through. I liken it to the various Crosman guns. Inexpensive, possibly overpriced for what you get, possibly not. But almost all the SPA guns seem to have good barrels, and that's quite possibly the most important thing in an airgun.

My Wife and I owned/operated a couple of small, low volume, nitche manufacturing businesses for many years. Found out PDQ that if a given product didn't sell for at least 3x what we had into it, it wasn't worth bothering with. Sometimes items selling for 5x our cost were dropped.
One thing that those formulas can't figure in is the "hassle factor." Those little (or big) irritations that always come up unexpectedly, usually at the worst times. Machine breakdown, raw material unavailable, someone gets sick, etc.
Then there are the individuals who see you making money in your nitche and think they can easily slide in and undercut your business; often times using bad-mouthing tactics in an attempt to damage your reputation. A lazy, underhanded man's route. They know that they can't be successful based on the merits of their own work (and usually fail, regardless).

THANK YOU !

In the bicycle business, and likely many others, markup is keystoned. A bike might only have 10-15 percent markup, but a tube or cable will be 200-300 percent. That is why shops will often push accessories with a new bike purchase. Electronics is like that too.
-
THANK YOU !
There is hope for mankind yet.
I can only speak for myself, but anyway just want to say that I wish more often I would keep my mouth shut when it comes to saying things that can be taken negatively and would be quicker to stand up and be thankful and speak up for the good. Thanks for your service and for getting these guns out there for people!
And please sell me some CP2 grips lol! I would have bought my CP-1M and a varmint from you by now if only the crazy border problem wasn't an issue!

Well I can vouch that the simple cleaning of my magazine was all it took to get it working flawlessly on the hunt right up until I got rained out.

Hi all, headed to the woods again tomorrow with my Dominator and the thought occured to me that I have not seen any posts yet about adjusting the regulator. I did see the posts about the bottle version regulator, but the tube version seems different. Mike, Chickie, anyone, played with the reg yet or has any information come back from China? I don't want to have to order a Huma if I don't have to, but I want more power. :P
-
Shultz,
I'm with you on the weight, I'm also not 100% sure, but either way, it's all good.
5lbs would be very nice, but it's 6.5 lbs (verified on another thread). The P15 is the lighter of all of the new SPAs. Mike said some are Titanium & othets Aluminum when I asked, but he didn't say which AG had what. He did say than are lighter than advertised, but hasn't put it on a scale yet. But 6.5lbs is ptetty good for the power.
I only look for light AGs. I do not want to be lugging around a Hatsan or Marauder. I like the weight of my Escape with 24 inch barrel (.25 cal). Only 5.5lbs & powerful. The 18inch barrel Escape is only 4.5 lbs. And the R&L Moderators are very light if you need to suppress the bark.
-
UFF, I am not able to read this long tread.
Can someone compare this gun to Kral Puncher Maxi
I want know mainly :
1. Barrel and shroud lengths
2. Output air pressure of regulator for .177 and .25 and possibility to increase it via dissasembling .
3. Trigger weight
-
Pete I don't have the Kral but I can vouch that the Dominator is really a great rifle for hunting. I've been having a lot of fun with mine out hunting since I bought it. I'm getting about 70 shots on a fill at about 31fpe but where you're located you might have limits on stuff like that. I haven't had mine apart yet but I will eventually take it apart I'm sure. I'd like to be able to make mine worthy of reaching out there for hunting medium sized small game at a distance. All in all I'm very happy with mine.

Wayne, Thanks for shoot string .
I am just locking for best and cheapest host for .177 LW 605mm x 15 mm barrel for shooting JSB Monster REDSIGNET at 950 FPS.
That is the reason why I need output presure about 150bar and to know all another detail.
-
I don't think the Dominator can be bought in .177, pretty sure just .22 & .25.
-
NP, the support would be the air stripper.
John,- Thanks a loooooot ,
Your PDF diagram , pictures and descriptions have answered me a lot of my questions.
Can you let me know the length of barrel and barrel shroud ?
It will be very interesting to use 77cm barrel shroud from SPA Artemis M22 equipped already with right UNF thread !!!

I couldn't get the the web address you posted here but finally found one address doing a search that I could. I see that you guys can buy them now too over there across the pond. The guy that imported them here to the U.S. evidently didn't get any of the .177's but he might if requested by enough people probably.
-
It seams that only Barrel - #4 and connector - #3 are different for .177,.22 and .25 calibers.
Perhaps only drilling a larger elliptical air transfer holes to its can increase FPE for .177
-
I was interested in this gun .... did a search ... found this thread .... I would not buy this after looking at the post ... IMO...
-
Sorry to hear Dan. This thread goes back to the introduction of this rifle and like any brand new gun, we all have our opinions of what it should be or become. My .25 Dominator has become my goto hunting rifle now that I have learned it's nuances and fixed it's minor issues. It's not an FX Streamline (even though it resembles one ;) ), and it doesn't have the power of the Rainstorm II (even though it resembles that rifle also) but for the money I paid for the Dominator I couldn't be happier.

how many fps are you getting out of the .25 ... how is the accuracy ?
-
Wow!!!!!! I started to re-read through the posts from the beginning of this thread, it makes me wonder just how many people actually did order this gun ??? It's now my go to gun as well Steve, my .22 now after probably 2500 rounds through it is averaging 32fpe+ for 60 shots now and I just started using JSB18.13's again because they are something else in the accuracy department for this gun. I can now understand why one guy at the "Chicken Ranch" put a M10 barrel on his Daystate and is more than delighted with it. This gun is unbelievably accurate IMO and if I miss something it's definitely not the guns fault. I shot a fox squirrel in motion today, I had to get a follow up shot once I found her because I had broken her back but even shooting her in motion proves to me that this gun is very capable, very light and well worth every penny I paid for it. Since being broken in the action is now silk smooth as is the great trigger that it has. This gun is still just like it came out of the box except for tiny dings here and there in the stock which is to be expected when the gun has been in and out of my truck and through the woods as much as it has been. I know now that if I have quarry at 80 yards that this gun is very capable especially if I have something good to rest on. When I'm out hunting I carry as little as possible and about the only thing that I do carry when I'm out is extra pellets and my camera. For some of you that read the hunting gate regularly you can probably believe what I say that I'm more than happy with this gun, I hope the rumor that I heard about there being a U.S. major distributor coming in 2018 for all the SPA guns because IMO you ain't ever going to find more value for your money.
-
Dan, I am currently shooting only two pellets from my .25 Dominator, the 31 gn Baracuda and the 25.39 grain AA pellets. The Baracudas are shooting right at 830+ fps for about 47.5 ft lbs and and the AA pellets are shooting at about 880 fps for about 44 ft lbs. I have installed a Huma reg in mine and boosted the hammer spring with some washers as spacers ( very easy to do) so it is shooting with a little more power than just out of the box.
The Cudas I have shot many times at a lasered 100 yards braced against a tree and the gun is easily head of squirrel accurate at that distance if I do my part. I have a Tac Vector 3.5x10x44 scope on the rifle and the combo is just deadly. With the AA pellets I have shot three mags into a hole just slightly bigger than a dime at 35 yards on a quite windy day so I know they are equally accurate in the Dominator.
Sadly Wayne, I have not seen too many post about the Dominator other than yours, mine, and Abracken's, and I think Chickie has one also. I like mine well enough that I sold my M10 and my P12 because they were mostly becoming closet queens. For those of us that move a lot on out hunts in woods the Dominator is a very good field gun. While I am not as good at posting pictures as you, ( I do love your pictures and videos) I have taken several squirrels, crows, and other game at anywhere from 40-100 yards and thoroughly enjoy the gun. I don't get quite as many shots per fill as you, but from a full fill I can get three full mags before it falls off the regulater even at almost 48 ft lbs. I know that I could boost the power a little bit more with just a few adjustments, but I am pretty happy with where things are for now.
-
WOW ! both of your post are great reviews of this gun ... cool ... 3 mags in .25 is good in my book ,and about what my hatsans do ..as does my tuned mrod ... and from what you guys are saying accuracy is dead on ... maybe with a new high volume seller the price would come down also ...
how is this gun for loudness ? kral guns are priced close to the same but the parts they are put together with are junk { I was interested in those also }
another question= what effect did the new regulator have over the factory 1 ?
thanks for your guys input ...
-
Dan mine isn't really what I'd consider backyard friendly but doing an indoor chrony test isn't an issue for loudness. Hunting with it isn't bad at all, I really doubt the quarry hear where the shot is coming from due to the loud smack it makes when it hits them.
-
Dan, I shoot mine in the yard sometimes, but the neighbors all know me as the crazy air gun guy so pay no attention. Its is actually pretty quiet with the factory moderator but I have a 1/2-20 adaptor if I really wanted to get mouse fart quiet. As for the Huma, I am not convinced it was necessary, but there was just not much information available on adjusting the factory reg and I have now come to the conclusion that boosting the Hammer spring might have made a pretty significant impact on it's own. Adding the Huma without the hammer spring boost really didn't accomplish much, but the combination is working well. I was trying to get to 50 ft lbs, which is not too bad for a Carbine like the Dominator, and I am sure I could get there with just a bit more tweeking. By the way, the metal (machining) and fit is quite good on the Dominator and you won't feel like you have junk at all. As I said before, it ain't perfect, but none of my guns have been perfect. I've owned several Hatsans and still own a BT65 in .25 cal, so I know those guns perform well, but the Dominator is just so much easier to handle in the woods and doesn't wear on me like the Hatsans. ( I am on the North side of 65 now so weight does matter on those long strolls at the WMA ;D )
-
Steve I took the stock of mine today because it got kinda wet in the rain, a rag with some Hoppes #9 to dry things up was in order and I also checked the screws while I had the stock off. I did have to tighten up the handle screw for the lever and that was about it. Eventually I'm going to order a couple extra magazines and a couple of the special transfer ports these guns have. I'd really like to play around with some extra power and heavy pellets with this gun. That guy that made three bottled M16's from parts said that he was going to do some modifying in that department but I haven't seen anything new on that thread.
-
Anyone know when they'll have the P15 available?
-
ya none of use are getting younger .... I could not blame anyone older for going lighter on a gun ... I hit mid 50's in march :o ;D ;) { how did I get this old ? ???} ... I am fighting this by working out 5 days a week sometimes 6 ...swim 1 mile a day for 5......core train 5 days lift weights 3 days a week ... ya I know I am nuts ! ;D ;D 25yrs racing stand up jet skis pro class did this to me ! ;D
i like the way the way dominator looks , and the washer trick looks like its brought it up closer to 900 fps ... and i know what youre saying about perfection there is always some thing ! but hey if the gun works good we can over look some minor things , or even fix them if it bothers you/use that much ... a lot of this is personal preferance .... crazy me likes to check um out ... and buy to many guns ! ;D but you only live it once ! ::)

2500 rounds is a good test.... VERY good test ! 60 shots is nice in .22 { it would need a bottle in .25} and its holding up pretty great mechanically, and very accurate it sounds like from what you guys are saying .... ive never bought from mrodair ive come close but never pulled the trigger .....they have interesting products ....
is this the same gun ? I can't understand what he is saying but the gun looks nice .....it looks to be the same as the Diana outlaw that AOA has also...

Wow, looks like y'all been chuggin' right along with this thread without me, ha ha!
Hey, Dan, I looove my .25 Dominator, just wish it was priced more appropriately.
Wayne, my guess is that the higher-than-justifiable price has kept sales on these babies low..
Just got my Yong Heng set up and running, so I'll be giving my Dom a lot more attention in the near future, believe me! I have a Rocker1 husher ready to install, so no worries about the weak factory LDC..

-
Does anyone know if there is an adapter available where you could install the Weihrauch moderator on the M16?
Also, to those of you who have owned the gun for awhile, how has the trigger broken in? Can it be adjusted light and crisp to begin with, or does it need some breaking in?
Thanks!
-
Anyone know when they'll have the P15 available?
I got mine late August from mrodair don't know if their in stock now

Deleted, I misread above post, apologies ☺️
The p15 is in stock in 22 and 25 calibre for $599

Yes, same M16. He says a few interesting things:
1. His came with a wrench to remove the gauge. (none of my SPA guns came with one).
2. The barrels are German made (I don't think so).
3. Magazines are compatible with M16, M22 and M11 (good to know, if you intend to get one of the other rifles).
I shot an M11 the other day and was impressed with the quality and operation of the mags. They're only $10 if you buy them direct from SPA.

Hi chickie ,... ya know what I agree with the cheaper price .... I got my bullboss for $399 with german steel barrel shoots inside a dime at 50 yards action on my gun works perfect ... hatsan's are a bit on the heavy side built like a tank shouldered the gun feels lighter than my career MK300 which is the same weight as the dominator ... I really do not think the Chinese made dominator gun that has a lot lower power in .25 than the bull boss... should sell for more .. both guns are on sale price ....
another thing mrodair needs a better web site with full specs on the guns ! ... i mean they list almost no tech info at all ... I guess maybe AOA site might have enough on the Diana version/ clone of this gun ... back about 2 years ago I tried to get ahold of mrodair to get some info on the guns ... no response to emails or phone calls... so of course I did not buy from them , and AOA does not instill confidence ...a lot of people have had problems with them also ....might just have to wait for pyramid air /airgun depot to offer this gun possibly ....

I'm waiting for the same thing as you, for the same reasons as you. I would have bought from Krale, as I've had only excellent service from them in purchasing 6 guns. But the exchange rate is brutal right now at 20%. Hopefully PA will get the Outlaw/M16.

18inch barrel
41.5 long

fine German beach wood {from China ;D ;) } stock stained with china fine walnut :o
here is the rest of their info from AOA :
The Diana company has a reputation for building some of the highest quality, most solidly made, precision airguns in the last 100 years. The new management team at Diana recognizes the companies fine tradition of quality and value and are dedicated that any new products maintain this fine tradition. The new Outlaw is a PCP air rifle in the Sport Line from Diana. The Outlaw is an impressive sporting precharged pneumatic air rifle that delivers levels of performance and features at a very affordable price. The Outlaw sports an easy side-lever cocking and loading system that cycles the multi-shot magazine and sets the adjustable two-stage trigger. Very good accuracy is provided by a special barrel and breech system and velocity is controlled by a precision air regulator. The Outlaw's regulated action provided very impressive consistency and shots per fill off the air cylinder in our testing. A color coded pressure gauge displays the state of air charge and the rifle includes a dust cover probe style filling . The Diana Outlaw's action is fitted into a walnut-stained German beech stock with a comfortable soft rubber butt pad. When firing the Outlaw the shooter will delight in the very quiet report that is achieved from the full length shroud and moderated barrel package. Servicing is minimal with only a required drop of lubricant on the side lever every 2000 shots. Cleaning of the air rifle's rifled barrel is so easy it will shock the new owner. One simply unscrews the barrel from the breech for full removal. This allows for cleaning from the breech and inspection as well. The new Diana Outlaw is suited for target or field duty with a trigger block safety and a one-year warranty. The Diana Goddess of old would gladly trade in her bow and arrow for the new Outlaw!

Dan I need to get me a shipping scale so I can start weighing my guns, I figured it was about 6 1/2 lbs without the scope but Diana probably did weigh one so it's probably they weight they gave

I got to say you have proved the design to be a reliable one with the 2500 shots you have put threw it ... I would like to get 1 in .25 ... or better yet a .30 cal ... my .30 carnivore hits like a 22lr on my spinning metal targets ..SMACK ! ... big difference from the .25 ... ya if they came out with a .30 real close to same weight I don't think I could resist .... ;)

This was the first chrony test I did with JSB18.13's
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4424/36678462250_9bb44b1c38_b.jpg)
This is the last shot string that I did with it and I was happy with the improvement just from being broken in. I haven't shot at all except for when I'm out hunting since and it's still working fine.
I did have to take this gun apart about a hundred rounds ago because it started leaking, I suspect it was the gauge o ring because it was really swollen and very loose so I replaced that and the fill probe o ring as well (it looked like it should be replace by squared seating marks on the o ring.

Wayne, this is what I posted the day I received my M16:
"So, the Dominator arrived right on time, thank you Mike (Happy Birthday Boy) and the Brown truck. (about 39 ft lbs)"
I have since changed to a slightly heavier scope and added a sling. Total weight now is 8.4 lbs and the power is boosted to about 47.5 ft lbs so just a bit more noise from the business end, but not enough that I will change the factory LDC. If I boost it any more I might consider someyhing from Rocker1.

looks like after reading this thread over ... the gun needs to be torn down out of the box new orings installed... lever pin at least green lock tight or stake it more .... then everything checked over and re-assemble ...correctly ....
mrodair at this price should just go threw the guns so they work correctly to a higher percentage .... fix the problems a $500 gun should not have ...

They meant Pocahontas would have traded in her bow for a cool outlaw with a Dominator ... ;).. ;D { "Diana Goddess " lame add !}

in .25
Will jsb exact king heavy Mk1 & mk2 fit the magazine fine? And is the rifle able to shoot them @ 820 or more when adjusted regulator and hammerspring? ((Or is the powerplant to weak? .))
How to ( DIY) trigger tuning & power tuning are very much appreciated.

I can't recall if AustinB tried the JSB33.95 grainers in his .25 but I do recall him saying he didn't think there was much room for increase as there was for the .22. I had mine doing about 42fpe in my .22 but I need to get a stiffer hammer spring because adjusting it to the full potential of where I have the regulator set it over stressed the spring after use.

Thanks
Have seen that .25 caliber JSB Exact King pellets at about 900 FPS is very succesfull in long range shooting. In better barrels I'll guess, but, had been fun if such a cheap rifle could do something close to this :)
