"dang" It was hot to day around 98F so I was only out side for a short while Hitting steel targets with my BSA R10 .22 at 50 yards , I was about to call It a day when I noticed leaves and twigs moving I thought maybe a mouse or a rat , so I scoped across to where this movement was still at around 50 yards (checked It with my range finder
) And what should appear THIS .
Copper head I believe , First head shot killed It Second shot took his head clean off. Not really proud of killing the snake but around here they say If Its poisonous kill It.
Just thought Id share this any way.
Stay cool...........

Nice shooting.
I'm not a fan of killing snakes just because of phobic reactions, but poisonous ones near homesteads get my blessing if you feel the need. They have enough non poisonous brothers and sisters that eat the same prey to pick up the slack.

Copperheads are the only snake I kill.
My wife and I spend a lot of time working in flower and vegetable garden. Copperheads are well camo'ed in the mulch and they are not shy .

Water Moccasins
Rattlesnakes
Copperheads
Coral snakes
are the top snakes around here, and the water moccasins might just be the most aggressive of them all. Then again I am deathly scared of all snakes.

At one of our small rural hospitals one summer there was a rash of about half a dozen snakebite cases in the ER. Every one of them was from a Copperhead. How do I know they were Copperheads? Because the victims or their parents, yes young kids got bit too, were smart enough to bring the perps in to be identified. Nobody died. That was the year the hospital started to keep some antivenom on hand.
The saying is that if you gotta get bit by a venomous snake, better hope it's a Copperhead. It is generally the least deadly of the 4 venomous snakes native to North America.

Better hope it's an adult, too. The babies don't know how to restrict their venom, and will dump it all in one bite.

That's for sure a copperhead I know of 2 people who have been bitten by copperhead one a 32yr wife of a friend of mine and a 6 yr old living a couple houses from me. Both died cause the small town hospital didn't' have anti venom. Very dangerous snake.

Poisonous = to eat it.
Venomous = if it bites you.
Common error. Just wanted too share. Carry On!
BTW: Good Shot!

Good shooting and yes if it on my property it becomes a threat and shortly later a nice hat band. Poisonous snakes in suburbia are not a good match

Good shot, and nice rifle!
Rittell's makes a snake skin tanning kit, it is easy to tan a hide, and you can make cool things with them. (Info for the next snake you kill)
