New Crosman Pellets

Picked up a tin this afternoon and will give them a try in my Hatsan 125.

I like how on the packaging, crosman has 400450

we all know these pellets were never offered in 400 count, who do they think they're fooling?? I'll have to try them out

But it says you get 50 free!! That's why the 400 is crossed out.

That should help to expand their minds!  Impressive!  Approx fps?

Whew,  Joe, that looks nasty!  I hope they're accurate for you because that looks like it can chew through some tissue if it expands like that on the prairie dogs.

For me, I'm pretty much done with anything but domes for hunting beyond about 35 yards.  I know you drilled a prairie dog at 1/4 mile with one of the new PDG pellets but I've yet to find a single hollowpoint or expanding pellet that will hold groups like a dome at distances beyond about 45 yards.  I want that little pellet to go through the control room of whatever furbearer happens to be on the far side of the field.

I did not have a way to test expansion when shooting today but will do some more tests over the weekend. My Hatsan is pushing these at about 935 fps at the muzzle so there is some potential for expansion. While the pellets are not soft lead, Joe's pictures are encouraging.

Actually the make up is softer than before.  The heads deform a lot easier than the CPHP's.

Good to know, Joe. I shot about 30-40 of the pellets this morning at my hunting range and came away pleased with the overall usability. JSB 15.9's will be my primary pellet for the Hatsan 125, but the Piranha pellets may become my backup.

There you go.  I shot them out of my Disco with my hawged out valve and heavy hammer spring.  They didn't open up like they did with my Sumatra...but, they they opened up and kind of squared off.  To me they look like coring bits:

I bought some last week and shot them through my b50, its shooting 960s and they were as accurate as jsbs I have been shooting. I was surprised to say the least. Also shot them into some duct seal and they were flat as paper almost. I think they may possibley have a winner.  David

Thanks for weighing in David, and I agree I think they may have a winner. I would lean more heavily towards them if I had not just received 4 tins of JSB 15.89 from PA. Probably will take some of each when in the field.

Joe, even with the Disco the shot pellets still look pretty deadly so I need to do some expansion shooting tomorrow myself if it doesn't rain us out.

Working on that...hopefully will go out next week.  Just not into cutting into P-Dawgs and all the disease they carry.  And rabbit and squirrel ain't in season yet.

Bought a pack of those Piranha .22 to try in the TF-99 (an airgun I do not shoot much), figuring if it would help the "hollowpoint" expand, I'd see.  Shot it into 8oz cans filled with water and into soda pop cans filled with water at about 10 yards.  The fun part was shooting up some old soda cans (shook them up first) and hitting them with these .22 pellets.  Made for some flashy, splashy views; not to mention it showed me I needed a little Kentucky windage to hit them . . . LOL

Previously, from the limited shooting I'd done with it, the TF-99 had only shown a preference for the Daisy Precision max Wadcutter pellet, so I decided to put it on the bench indoors and shoot it at 10 meters.  The first group I shot, 10 rounds measured 1.129" outermost-to-outermost points, with the (forward mounted) open sights which I don't shoot well.  Yes, I was pleased.  Will have to work with it at distance at a later date.

This was my results shooting Piranhas into Plumbers Putty. The pellet on the left hit the putty approximately one foot from the muzzle and measures .027 after recovery. The pellet on the right was shot at approximately 20 yards into the same medium and while the face has opened up somewhat, still measures .22 according to my digital caliper. Both shots were at 935 fps at the muzzle.

The wound channel for both was pretty awesome in the putty.
