Well i'm about flat out excited, i've been looking for a high ftlb pcp to coyote hunt with and had a gentleman offer me his brand new Jack Haley .458. Unfired except for the initial testing, it made 460 ftlbs using a 300gr. bullet@ 830fps. Although there is no guarentee that i will own this gun until it actually hits my hands, we have made arrangements for me to pay for the gun in two payments and it will be March before i receive her. Still, thats pretty good, he waited 7 months for it to be built, but by the time it came had 2 more custom bigbores ordered..lol, so i'm going to get lucky.
He said the thumbhole is done in english walnut, the gun is supposedly huge, just over 50" and i have no idea how much it weighs, but i'll bet it's not light:), the barrel alone is 26-28"long, still, i'm excited to get the opportunity to own one of these semi custom guns and to feel confident about hunting big game with a rifle thats appropriate. I have alot to study up on as so far as slugs go, and a lot to learn about these guns. I'll sure post as i get closer to seeing it show up. Jeff bet it's gonna be loud..
up to 650gr.. bullets..
http://mrhollowpoint.com/6764.html
all the .457 dia. should fit

Jonny, I think I have 'gun envy!' Beautiful and graceful all at the same time, Haley builds nice guns, doesn't he?
Well, how soon are you going to have coyote pics??? LOL!

Thanks fellas,, it reminds me of a moderistic version of a flintlock, geez the thing looks long. It's going to be trial and error on some things, it sounds like it prefers 3500+psi, so my 3200psimax fills are going to be a little weak until i get a shoebox ughh compressor or find somewhere with a higher fill capability. And buy a carbon fiber tank.... hmm this sounds expensive
and getting worse all the time. Maybe i can see about reducing the air flow/valve or hammer spring to accomodate a lighter projectile and lower fill pressure. I don't need to shoot 655gr. slugs, the 200gr. would be fine for my purposes. I will have to try the 415gr. hollow point boattails though, they look like submarines.. oh what fun this will be..
Don't hold your breath on the coyote pictures but darned if i won't be trying..

I checked out the pricing on those slugs, looks like quite an investment in ammo alone . I would be tempted to try a black powder bullet mold , also available in .458 . Might take some experimenting to get it right, but might be worth it in the end . Check this on out ,

lol scott, i think you phrased that one just right, "behemoth", do you think thats why Jonnyboy has "gun envy"
Ethan, i will get a mold for it, maybe several a roundball and a slug of some type. I'm going to shoot some of those(store bought) slugs and find out what works the best, then buy a mold or two. I'm also going to have to figure out a good backstop that will catch this lead, every 30 or so shots is a pound of lead downrange and i'd like to be able to save it, I say this, first i'm going to have to get the gun and make sure i like it, it's kind of an investment in a way, if i don't truly love it, i'll possibly sell it when the Rogue comes out, it should at least partially cover the expense of it. The PCP I'm wanting to build is similar to a Jack Haley. I'm not going into business or anything. I just want to build my own from a TC inline muzzleloader I have.
I need to see if he still sells PCP tubes.
I thought about making mine with switch barrel capability so I can make it into .25/.30/.32/.45/7mm calibers (yes, I know that caliber is incorrect terminology for a metric bore diameter), and a .410 shotgun.
I like my .45 Sam Yang so much that I want to build an uber-powerful BB gun.
Nice PCP, by the way. I like the fact that they don't sound anything like a firearm.

Thanks, i've thought about it as well as it almost seems like the simplest valves are on the biggest guns, striker and spring,a modded T/C sounds like a great platform to build off of to, good luck with that.
Well i spoke to the seller and all is worked out, i should have it in my hands in a few short weeks, and although there is no way to do it yet, i'm already plotting having Howie make me a flintlock style full length stock in curly maple
It just seems like it would lend well to the gun, maybe a hawk feather or two dangling from the end,,
What do you think?

The TC Thunderhawk looks like a Jack Haley rifle without the breech and barrel.
The nipple hole is the perfect place for the valve stem. I'll make a 1/4 x 28 bushing for the hole.
The factory barrel will be removed and replaced with an air tube and valve.
I'll have to make a breech tube/bolt/valve, and turn a barrel to fit.

Yeah me too, i've been reading online how easy his guns are to adjust, i'll lighten(or possibly go heavier) the spring probably and also take an oz. or two off the hammer, to hopefully let me get more than one or two shots(yup thats it!!) off a 3000psi fill. I'll be saving up though, for i think a shoebox compressor in the future so i can take full advantage of this guns power. J
