I am looking for a fun to shoot, preferably pellet, pistol. I was wondering what the smallest non co2 pistol was. I am leaning forwards a Herman p17. Also, any good suggestions for co2 just I case I change my mind?

You must mean beeman p17. Good choice if you get a good one, but they can need some tinkering. Do a search to find out the issues. A nice smaller pistol than that is the Webley tempest. It's probably the smallest currently available spring pistol. Have fun with that, tk

The P17 is the smallest non-CO2 that I know of. It is a Single Pump Pneumatic that will produce in the area of 400FPS with 7.9 grain pellets. Very accurate, very consistent, very good trigger. And they only cost $30.

I have two, one with a ten inch barrel added, one near stock.

The one thing you will wish to do when you get your P17 home is to debur the air inlet hole in the main pump tube. That does require taking the pistol partially apart, though is a lot easier than you may think. The rough edges around that hole can cut the piston O-Ring over time, so we smooth it out.

I would definitely say the P17 is the way to go.

I agree the Beeman p17 is what you want cheap and great shooting gun do tear down and deburr the hole in the cylinder

The P17 is a single pump, it's designed for one pump and no more. maximum fps is about 400fps.

If you put a 12 inch barrel on it, and pore the outlet port you may get as high as 430FPS out of a P17 with 7.9 grain pellets.

Compare that pistol with the Umarex Browning Buckmark. I have the Buckmark with or without my dot sight it's a good shooter. Don't know why I can fire this break barrel pistol pretty accurately, but can't get the same type of rifle to group with any consistency.
I had a P-17. Within 40 shots it developed problems and wouldn't fire. Returned it. Your results may vary from mine. Mine broke on the first day.

The p17 is a great value unless you can't change O-rings and do a little deburring. Otherwise it's awesome. Mines has 200-400 shots threw it and needs O-rings, leaks down in about 20 minutes. New O-rings and a de-burr and it will be better than new.

i also was wondering about the P17.
is it good for HOSP at close range?.also was wondering about the "deluxe"set with a red dot sight.im not a big fan of red dots but was wondering could i take the red dot off of it(and does it come with the fiber optics on it with red)if i didnt like the red dot sight?.
also i hear alot about the o rings n such failing but heard its easy to fix.could anyone explain that?.P.S feel free to PM me if you want.Thanks

Should work fine for HOSP. Stonykill here has killed plenty of chippers and at least one other guy even kills squirrels with some odd ball pellet, can't remember the name.

As far as the o-ring issue, I think most of that has been cleared up. Original production was a bit less refined and drilled holes were left with burrs on them which would cut the o-ring and render the gun useless. If you were to get one of those you just disassemble, clean the burr from the hole and put it back together. Last year I bought 3 of these. No problems with 2 of them and I even converted one to .22. The 3rd one I have not even taken out of package. I bought it in case I had trouble but haven't thus far.

I personally don't like red dots and would not get that one. I have an AIM red dot sitting on my workbench right now.

I have a couple of P-17's.... Nice shooters for sure! I guess I'm lucky as I haven't had any issues from mine yet. There a great bang for the buck!!

i was wondering if the "deluxe"still has the fiber optic sights and if i could take the red dot off and it would still be the same as the regular p17.
i was wondering becasue they only sell the "deluxe"verison at walmart.and it would be easier for me since i aleady have some items i need to order from them.
so can i take the red dot of the deluxe and it still be the same as the regular with fiber optics or do i need to get the regular?

Yes, you can take the red dot off. They still have them in stock here without the red dot. Pretty cheap. I've bought 4 of them from this sight. 2 of them went off to Stalwart for some serious magic. 2 of them were gifted and still shooting.

Like many, I got both (Beeman P17 and Crosman 1377). Won't tell you the price we must pay them in Europe but who minds ? Both are such a pleasure to shoot.

To sum it up (my opinion) : like other members said, Crosman 1377 can shoot stronger and can be highly modified ; Beeman P 17 is so accurate you feel you really got a good marsmanship's level in handgun shooting (which I know is untrue, as far as I'm concerned...)

May I... ? Get both o'em !!!

Its barrel is a couple of inches longer than some of the others mentioned but is still small compared to many.

Just the barrel on the 1701 is 1/2" longer then the entire P17.

P17 OAL - 9.6"
1701 OAL - 14.75"
