Getting New HW50s

Hey guys,
     I have ordered the HW50 in .22 and while it hasn't arrived yet, I have been reading all I could about it. I just came across an article that described it as very 'Twangy' in comparison to other airguns and now I am kinda worried. I have an R10 in .20 and a FWB124 that has had a tune by Jim Macarri. Both are a real pleasure to shoot. I was hoping to get a nice shooter out of the box with the HW50. I may be a little premature here, before I even get a chance to shoot it but I thought I would ask anyway. I am sure some of you guys have shot the 50 before, How is it? Am I going to have to send it off? I am not up to taking a new airgun apart.

The HW was sent to my brothers house in Dallas by mistake. He has been shooting it for almost a week now and says he will send it on when he finishes "testing" it. I think he has harvested a couple of fox squirrels by now. He just has to get them to fall and his rat terrior administers the Coup de Gras (with a lot of embellishments), if they have a last kick left. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Nice air guns you have there. I do not have a HW50 but shot one in .177 with a Vortek kit. Awesome gun.. So nice that it will be my next springer. Welcome to GTA..

The 50S is a great mid powered gun. Highly accurate. Can't help you with the twang. I don't shoot from the box.

I had one.  Yes, mine was a bit twangy out of the box, but not so much that I felt the need to have it tuned.  The twang lessened after it started to break in.  It shot great and it was extremely accurate, but with my aging body I just got tired of the often reported high cocking effort. 

Getting all preachy: Like the overwhelming majority of shooters, I don't generally get my guns tuned (I got one tuned 25 years ago).  I assume a bit of twang is just part of the deal and don't even think about it.

Ramble, To answer your questions from your message. Yes, I found that mine was more of a buzz than twang out of the box. After a tin plus it was still there. Having put a Vortek kit in my D34 and realized the vast improvements that are gained. I ordered up the stock power kit from Vortek. The gun was very accurate from the get-go but with the kit installed it is a real pleasure to shoot. Smooth and quiet. I like it better than my D34 and is a close to the TX200. It is smaller/lighter than the other two and just as accurate. Making it just a blast to shoot. Fit and finish is closer to the TX than the D34. Real nice. I did the Vortek myself and when opening the gun it was soaking wet with oil/grease. Worked real smooth though. It was just the buzz I wanted to get rid of. I have attached a picture of yesterday's target. I only have 20 yards in the backyard. I'm sure it is good beyond that. After the kit the chrony numbers I'm getting are almost exactly what Straight Shooters got with the pellets I have on hand. It loves JSB Exacts 8.44! As does the TX and 34. I know you are going to love it. Scott P.S. Lower right target was last shot. Started losing focus. My fault not the guns. It's a lot better than I am.

Yeah, its an unusual situation. I live in New Orleans, Brother is in Dallas. He bribed me with a new Benjamin Maurauder in .25 and included the pump to come over had help him move into a new house.  I jumped at it but after returning home, found I didn't really like the Maurader. I told the tech at PA to send it to my house since it was a gift. Obviously the shipping dept didn't get the word. I didn't want to just return it for credit since it would just go back on to his card so I picked out the nicest springer I could find.

I have a 50s in .22, untuned, came to me virtually new, and it is a pleasure to shoot. It is not broken in yet, but shoots so well there is no need to take it apart. makes my R1 seem like a cannon, lol. Enjoy, tk

I have an R11, while it is more accurate than my fully tuned TX200MK3 it does have a lot of spring noise, and has a little kick. After the tune I know it is the gun for me. Now I am considering selling most of my collection in a big sale. I am even considering selling my 25 year old fully tuned (by Gene) UK Tomahawk.

It wasn't my choice of caliber. It shines in .177.

  I wondered the same when I ordered mine but it shoot 650 fps with Silver Bear pellets and the accuracy makes up any pwr problems. I'm glad I got the 22 vs the 177 ~~BS50~~

.22 wasn't my choice either, but the deal presented itself, and I am not unhappy with it. I believe it to be on the edge of viability, just. It works, and the accuracy is there. As said, mine shoots great out of the box; maybe due to the heavier pellet. I like it enough if a .177 appears at a good price, I'll buy it, tk

Also get a cocking lever and have them install the new cocking lever on the barrel block....makes it a simple swap out.

How's this compare to the 30: size, weight and cocking effort wise? I've fallen hard for my 30, and been looking at the 50 to replace my NP eventually.
