In case you are picking up a used x53 here is how to ID the LW barrel
I goofed that is how to id the 953 barrel the LW barrel DOES NOT have the groove...
Sorry concentration probs...
From the email I got last year,
"The 953 barrel has a machined groove around the OD, on the breach end of the barrel. See below “.005 DP Groove (Identification)” The 853 barrel does not have this exterior groove machined on it.
Preceding the serial number should be a month/year date code that identifies the date of manufacture. Ex. 0505A00319 would be May, 2005"

Hi Folks,
Last week I ordered a Daisy 853 from CMP. It arrived today. It will be a few days before I can play with it. It appears to be in good condition, but can benefit from a stock refinishing and a trigger job. I'm a 64 year old that feels like a 6 year old.

Cool, I have a 953,
scope it if you get a chance, and at 15-20 yards you can shoot flies..
(You need the 10x scope to see them clearly, but it is fun as heck...)
Welcome to being young again..

I make 2 predictions;
ON THE DATE WHEN US TROOPS ARE ISSUED AN Energy Pulse Weapon,
1. The US Soldier will have on his person a version of the Colt 1911.
2. He will be aiming the NEW Weapon at someone carrying an AK47.

Last night while it was storming and while I was waiting for my wife to drive home from the airport, I took the 853 apart. Then, I decided that I needed to search the 'net for trigger adjusting info. I came across Tom Johnson's "Sporter Tips", I didn't do the whole upgrade. I just clipped a couple of coils off sear spring and the trigger spring. This made a major improvement over the as delivered trigger.
I shot it some today and I'm really impressed by it. It's going to be a real can killer / paper puncher. I see now that I need three more, one for each grandson and most importantly, one for my wife. Lilly's may get a 12X scope, she could really get into shooting bugs at 20 meters.
