 ya wanna know the trick on how to get them to show up at 10pm ? ? ?
 (go to bed at 9:45), LOL! They seem to enjoy making you get out of bed. I'm guessing they figure you have turned off the donger, so you won't get in trouble waking the wife. (that's why some guys put the toggle switch on the speaker).

By the looks of that fur ball, I'd say it was definitely a solid hit and I doubt he made it very far. I'd suggest getting a second donger, and setting it about 10-12 feet back from the stage. Attach it to a stake about 1-2 feet off the ground.
that way, you'll have a "Perimiter Alert" for the Super Highway,... as well as a second alert for any "Devcon 5 Center Stage Performances", hahaha.

We'll chock this one up as a 99% probable kill, and was then dragged off by his Rat-ical Comrades.

 The first time I looked at the pic, I thought the same thing,...even I had to do a "double-take".

 The pic was taken at the perfect moment when the sun was going down, and that was the last bit of sunshine coming over the house behind me... but yeah,... it sure looks like the coop was on fire ! lol

Pretty sure it was more than a haircut, but I agree, I would like to see some blood or skin before I declare a confirmed kill. Unfortunately I did not find the pellet either. Perhaps more evidence would have been available if I had. What I can tell you is the rifle I was using is a newly aquired Sheridan Blue Streak loaded with Benjamin 14.3 gr .20 cal pellets pumped to 4 strokes. I was easily picking off single Cherioes during practice, so POA to POI was dead on. The rat, when I shot it, was facing directly toward me but had it's head down in the cup. I was aimed at center mass of the 'ball' sitting on top of the 2x4, which I presume was the back of the neck or right between the shoulders. The impact sound was a solid thunk. The picture does not show the impact crater of the pellet on the 3/4" plywood backstop, but it was very shallow. In earlier practice sessions, a direct hit to the same backstop at 4 pumps buried the pellet and the sound made was totally different. I know darn well I hit said rat, and I believe the pellet travelled completely thru the body lengthwise. You can clearly see both long course hair and very fine fuzzy hair in the picture. To me, that suggests the hair came from two different areas of the body... as in a passthru shot.

No activity so far tonight. But if there is, I will hold out for an easy headshot. I want instant death.

Well it does look like a miniature theatre... doesn't it?? 

I was wondering about adding a second donger. Don't they all operate on the same frequency? i.e. if I have two motion detectors set out, do they both ring the same bell??

They do come in various channels.

 IIRC, the channel is listed either on the box or the manual.
 Just look on the one you already have, then buy another of a different channel.

Well right you are sir. I looked on the box and found a CH17 sticker. I must assume there are at least 16 other channels. Will go back to HF and see if I can find another donger of a different channel.

No activity at all last night... nary a ding from the donger.

This morning I decided to step up the search effort to see if I could locate the body of the one that I collected a hair sample from Friday night. The bushes to the left of 'The Stage' are overgrown and obscured my view, so I started trimming with the pruner and there he lay... not more than 6 or 7 feet from his last performance... resting peacfully.



Big fat bugger too he was. Pellet entered the back at the left shoulder, exit would not found. Already starting to smell, so I did not examine too closely. After a quick length measurement, in the trash he went.

Thanks Al. I believe it is stock and all original. Built in '71, it still holds air just fine and shoots hard. I have not even taken the action out of the stock since I bought it. Only had it a couple weeks. So far it has taken this rat and a possum.

I like this one so much I bought another. It should be delivered tomorrow or Tuesday. If it shoots good, it will probably go to Mac1 for the full steroid treatment plus a Gen II Brake.
