Help me pick a Gamo

I think most of these rifles are long term guns, as far as longevity goes.  As bullit already stated, the aftermarket has all your needs covered.  If you have the courage to diagnose and fix it when the spring breaks or the washers wear out, it is rewarded by the discovery of cnc machined brass barrel block washers, and springs and seals of such high quality that they may never need to be replaced again.  Also as previously stated, the aftermarket adresses the triggers as well.  The highly touted rws 34's price tag is up and climbing, and the economical choice on e again is to buy and tune a gamo or a chinese clone.  Value aside, the number one feature of Gamo rifles that interests me most is the power to weight ratio.  The weight of the whisper is comparable to that of the r7 as well as my favorite rifle, the 392.  A lot of people do love to hate gamo, and they make some pretty good points with the overstated velocities and some of the qc issues, they are not made as well as they used to be.  But none of the airgun manufacturers build them as good as they used too,, and all of them overstate the velocities their guns are capable of- save for Hatsan. 

Edit- not everyone is trying to win a competition with their air rifles.  Most of us are pretty happy to put 5 in a quarter at 20 yards.  5 in a dime at 30 is exceptional, most of us can't do that without a non-recoiling rifle and some type of rest.  I used to think I was tha man with my 392 shooting about a quarter inch at ten yards until I tried the off hand 10 meter challenge and failed to keep all 20 inside an inch at the same distance.  I think that a lot of us are living in a fantasy land where no one hunts with a gun at a given range that won't put ten in a quarter with 100% consistency.  The truth is most people probably can't hit a quarter at thirty yards with a match rifle when the adrenaline kicks in.  Most air rifles are many times more accurate than we can shoot, most $100 springers can pass the quarter test at thirty yards, most shooters can't come close.

Ole tom cat (Al) is the one that tuned my gun and like he said it is a real tack driver here are some pictures of what is can do at 40 yard with RWS super h points. The only problem I ever had with it was it was over lubed by a company I shall not name (Gamo) and the spring broke, but that happens even with expensive guns, but other ways it has been a great gun the weight is not to heavy and not to light which makes it a great hunting rifle. If you do get the CFR make sure you get the CDT trigger it is a big game changer.

I prefer the older guns such as the S1000.  They should last as long as any.    I understand that Gamo has gone to a lot of plastic.  Liners in polymer barrels and plastic breech blocks would concern me for the long haul.  The CFR is still made like the CFX and those should last a long time.  As to expendable guns, the little Slavia's were often considered such guns but now, forty years later, they still shoot well.  Two thirds the battle is taking good care of your gun.

The Velocity Adds and Pig Hunts sell guns.....

This is a majorly false statement, They do not refuse to sell guns they just require you to go through a FFL dealer....

  Pellet Hunter made a very accurate statement as to the ability of a fair number shooters with sufficient practice we do ok but without adequate range time that is all we are average and the rifles and handguns we choose to shoot are capable of shooting  at a much higher level than the shooter and sadly after shooting at 30 yards off the bench yesterday I include myself in that group.

A ffl is for firearms deals,  I live in a state friendly to air guns and to pay a ffl 20 or 30 bucks minimum to receive an air gun part is just flat stupid.  Gamos policy and ads are aimed at 16yo kids all the way and I am not one of them.

I think we are getting a little off track here, and I am one to admit I did so as well. I think this thread was to help someone pick a Gamo. The thread can include our opinions, but I think this person has not been helped much at this point.

Having made my points earlier I would go with the Whisper Deluxe if you I had to pick.

I like the whisper delux, also.  The proportions of the stock fit me nicely and it's just a nice, lightweight rifle for the woods.

Natchez Shooters Supply may still have refurb Gamo 220's.They're the wood and metal Gamo's.The Chinese barrel breaks are copies of this gun.

not sure bout the newer ones. i have a big cat that ive tuned and its a sweet little shooter. pinpoint accurate with enough power to take down squirrels cleanly. the only regrets i have with a gamo was my hunter sport with gas piston. for the same amount of money i could have gotten a 34 and had it tuned. ended up tuning it, getting it all setup nice then sold it for 1/3 of what i had in it cause thats what it was worth.

get which ever one you like best and shoot the snot out of it then fix what you dont like about it. after that it will be perfect for you. good luck and let us know what you get.

Amen to that first of all. 

For the OP, you can find Gamo a plenty on Craigslist that are new or barely used for half the original price or better, most haven't even been broke in yet.  There are tons on there, just be smart when checking them out to buy and look at and check all the important stuff like breech seal and barrel rifling.  Check it over top to bottom then test shoot it and bargain!  Just another option to mention.

I live in a state that is just as friendly if not  more so and I do not pay anything for a FFL Dealer to order parts for me, I pay list price for them, if he gets them cheaper and makes a markup on them then that is his business if not than I just pay for the parts and shipping.....
