Used Petey's method of dressing up an HW stock on the HW95. I still have a custom stock on order but this makes the factory HW95 stock look nicer while I wait. I also did the same to my HW50S stock.

A few more post-polishing shots. There's no oil on the stock--just a polish of the factory finish. Petey explained his process to me and I just happened to have the required products on hand. Petey comes through again--the results look great. The really good part is that the rifle shoots as nice as it looks!

That looks amazing.
It looked pretty good as it was ,but the polishing really brought out the Character of that Beech.

Very nice improvement on that original HW95 stock. It definitely looks a lot nicer with the polishing done to it.

Ok Petey, time for you to spill the beans in a thread about how you polish stocks to look like that.

I have an old San Rafael era stock on my R7 that really needs a makeover badly!

It's simple Gents,

Gets a tube of good old fashioned plain white TOOTPASTE. I like Colgate, myself.

Mix up a slurry with some water and using a soft rag, polish the finish.

When you are done, clean up with a water soaked rag ,dry and then spritz the stock with a bit of Armorall and then buff dry.

you don't have to explain but your reasons make perfect sense I have large hands and at 5'10 always need to add custom grips to many of the handguns that I owned in the past I guess if I were 6'5 nobody would question why I spent extra so the gun didn't slip around in my hand . So having a rifle stock that fits your frame makes perfect sense to me. At the end of the day what works for you is what really matters.

Any plain white abrasive toothpaste will do.

A "slurry" is a just a bit of water mixed with the toothpaste to make it easier to spread out on the stock. Toothpaste is a bit thick and sticky, It's bet to thin it a bit with warm water.

Go easy, to make sure you don't rub too hard. Stock finishes are different in terms of the abrasion resistance.. The modern two part conversion finishes as found on the modern HW rifles are quite hard. The toothpaste method should work well on them..
