First Thanks for all the great info here, Has been a tuly big help.
OK so I am tuning my Trail NP, I have it striped down cleaned and ready to put back together. Just had a problem with a GRS that I ordered not fitting, Thought I picked the right on but OH well. I noticed when I pulled the ram out it has a pretty good scratch in it. Is this something to worry about? I will have a GRS when it goes back in.

I have to say welcome to the GTA. I was wondering if you had read the info on the home page introduction. The owner and founder of the GTA manufactures triggers for the XL. If you are having problems with your trigger you may want to look into his brand of triggers. Better build quality from what I am told.

Appears the cocking shoe is dragging on your RAM. The shoe may be bent or has a burr or extra metal on it somewhere.
Oh, and welcome to GTA.

Get a GRT-III trigger for sure.
Also take a look at this tip for saving your seal as you reinstall your piston.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have sanded and polished the inside of the piston so I hope that took care of that. I just checked and it is very smooth in there now. Also if I ever get the ram bushing maby that will help with that as well.

OK After I ordered some parts wrong, all proper parts are here. Must say thanks to Gene for great Help and support.
Trail NP is back together and first hundred rounds are down the tube, with no detnation that I noticed. All I have for Chrono is the Phone download one. I will post a few groups of before and after once I have a few more rounds down range. Thank you all for the info on this board very helpful!

OK this rifle is starting to show promise. However shooting at paper is marginal at best, and going 0 for 3 on pigeons( the original intent for this rig) I would really like to put a different barrel on this thing maby a LW or FX...Well I think I should look at the crown!

So We now need a Rasp! Well I used two files on this the first one was semi course to get even as the barrel had a angle to one side. Got it straight then used the fine file to remove tooling marks that I made. I then used a dremal cone stone and by HAND slowly worked on the actual crown. After that I touchet it up with 600 and 1500 Wet dry paper..

OK so what time does the sun come up I gotta go try this out now

Cleaned up pretty good there. Don't forget to use a pull through and clean the barrel. Also expect to put a few hundred shots through it to season the barrel and break the rifle in before you start seeing real accuracy.

How does that barrel shroud come off, last thing I want to do is grab the end with some pliers....do I? Looking at the break down it appears the end unscrews? If so what did you use it grab it without scarring the finish?

The shroud does unscrew. You insert a hex wrench into the barrel end of the shroud and unscrew it.

Chuck I used a 1/4" allen and unscrewed it. The whole shroud comes off in one piece, I know the diagram showes the front piece is seperate, however it all comes off together.

@ paul68 Yes I pulled a few patches through before I reinstalled the shroud. I have about 500 pellets down the tube at this point but only about 50 after the tune and crown. I went 5 for 5 on shot gun shells @ 25 yards and was pretty pleased with that at this point. I have noticed that when I use different pellets it takes several shots for them to aclimate. Before the tune I dont think any pellet really stoud out in my mind but the CPHP got my vote, After the tune H&N FTT really made a big leape forward. After the crown the JSB diablo heavys started to shine. I really hope the Barracuda hunter ex work out for my hunting pellet but the poi is so different I cant go back nad forth to easy.

OK off to see what kind of footprint it will make now!

OK when I purchased this trail NP in Nov. it was preowned but box stock. here is what it did. at that point:

lots of vertical stringing, The trigger has got to go, I did a washer for a while and was an improvement but the GTX
trigger was amazingly different!

still not pleased so a tune up and getting rid of chinese greese and relube with moly past, GRS, Apex seal, and brass pivot washers:

These targets were shot using FTT @ 25 yards, there are at least 4 in the 9 ring on both so I know the potential is there. + just after these shot were taken I missed a pigeon at 15 Yards. I thought I should look at the crown.

It will consistantly hit the intended target at 200 yards!

Uhh, 200 yards is 600 feet. You'd be lucky to hit a cow at that range;)

I'm in the middle of my NP22 build and have that same gouge on the ram from the cocking shoe, sounds like these rifles could be twins. Any thing specific I need to do, just debur the shoe and lube?
