early crosman 400 & j c higgins 400

The lighter stocked gun is a j c higgins made for them by crosman. the other is a crosman 400. The jc higgins is just a parts gun as i needed some parts for the crosman. now i need to get a seal kit for the crosman. it had several parts robbed off it when it was new, never shot but seals are dried out.i got the j c off the net for parts.

  my bad the light stock is the crosman . it is a better grade of stock than the j c higgins has . but the j c higgins has a stainless steel bolt handle . if somebody hadnt took their vice grips to it id put it on the crosman . you have to remove the plug at the end of the bolt and stick an allen wrench in and tighten the set screw up to keep the bolt handle tight . hope to get a kit soon and see how nice it shoots . i see i will have to get some flat nosed pellets or they wont feed out of the magazine . and bet it takes a lotta co2??? also i discovered the j c higgins has a power regulator screw in the back. im thinkin about installin it on the crosman but not sure if it will interchange without usin more of the parts gun, the blueing is excellent on the crosman the higgins is rusty. just anothe rproject for me to do

Nice finds, I've got a 2nd gen 400 that I'm working on and will post some pics when I get it done. I found some new magazine copies in brass at AB for a great price and am waiting for one to show in the mail.
I have several Cr180's and love em, hoping the 400 performs as well with the advantage of being a repeater.
There really isn't too much out there about the 400, good to see somebody else is working on one.
I'll share some chrony numbers one I get done.

david its gonna be a slow go. i need to get my act togather and get the crosman done , need to order a seal kit and blue the parts i took off the jc higgins . too bad it was neglected but it will make the crosman complete again. i think i will restain and sprayclear gloss urathane on the stock. i have a lot of gloss urathane so it wont be much of a deal to do it . keep me abreast of your works on your 400

The 400 is one of the best rifles made by Crosman,I to have an early model with original mag.
It likes flat head pellets best,use Hobbys in mine.

Kinda got me wondering about a few of the oldies I sold recently. One of em was a 400 needing a resto but was certainly worth the effort. My 160 will be staying with me awhile:)
