Hey all,
I'm looking for an underlever or sidelever rifle that's way south of $500 if possible. I know AA TX200 series and RWS sidelever 460 + series. I just prefer a barrel that is straight without a break. Anything new out there?
If breakbarrels are the way to go, what are the + and - of them and which to get? Use more for plinking, but target and pest control/hunting may be in the distant future.

I did not understand your sentence about AA TX series? Did you mean you thought they were way south of $500?

If so, you may want to look again unless you are buying from a crusty old guy in a van down by the river next to the airgun shop that just got kncoked off.

Way south of $500 in a underlever..............Hatsans come to mind but none will have the quality a AA; Weihrauch; or Diana have.

Well, there is the XS46U. Supposed to be VERY nice. Mike Melick from Flying Dragon was stuffing gas rams in them at one time....I heard nothing but good about those.

A used but well kept b-40 should be somewhere in the 200 range, and they are great shooters.

A sidelever could serve you well, an RWS 48 makes a great shooter and should be available new under 500. Then there are china clones of those that are decent, B21 I think.....

Tech Force makes the 99 and 99 premier. They are more "military" styling, bulky, blocky and big. But they shoot very accurate and quite powerful. Can be had for under 200. Triggers are lamintaed steel though, and hard to smooth out.

Remember, underlever/sidelever tend to be more heavy, usually around 2 lbs heavier than the breakbarrels in thier power range. Add a scope to an 8,5 lb gun, and you have a 10lb gun on your hands.
Underlevers tend to be more front heavy.
The carbine versions tend to balance a little better....

Crosman is coming out with a Benjamin M77 underlever soon. Supposed to be a better made B40 which is a copy of the TX200. Only in .177 I think.

Well if you're looking for $500 performance from a $200 rifle, you're likely to be disappointed. There are several underlevers below the $500 mark, some substantially below that. But with that lower price comes a lower level of fit and finish and likelyhood of harsher firing manners.
The Gamo CFX has quite a few followers who really like it. Then there are the Turkish Retay and Hatsan. You can get a TF-97,99 or 87. Many of the lower cost guns are accurate. What is your budget for your gun? That's where you need to start and go from there.

Sorry if it wasn't clear, I know AA and others are way past $500. Looking for something below that range. Most of the shooters understand what I was looking for. Thanks for the responds everybody =)

There are several scopes that will survive the recoil of the 52 and 54 models. Your post up top only
specified a rifle for that price, not a combo. If you're looking for a combo gun and scope for the price
range indicated, some of the suggestions from the other folks may better fit your needs.

Way south means so many things. Specify a range like $200-$275 or the like. But you should get some good suggestions from those who understand. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for in this hobby to a big degree.

The Browning Leverage or the Xisico XS46U are low cost and if you were willing to take a chance on a fun little gun and you were up to tuning it yourself then a Industry Brand QB57 or B4-1, Bam B3 or B4. The Baikal IZH60 or 61. These represent the bottom of the heap but with a little TLC or luck you can get a good shooting gun out of them and then you can save up for that AA.

I second both the CFX if you can find one and the XS46U. Not sure if Mike Mellick still has them with the gas ram conversion, but you can't find a smoother shooting under-lever in that price range, especially with that kind of power. I get 17+ FPE with mine, and it has little or no hold sensitivity. Just barely over dime sized groups at 30 yards. Perfect for hunting.

My CFX is lighter and deadly accurate, but it takes a little work to get the best out of it. You'll want a GRTIII and at least a home tune.

The current incarnation has a plastic trigger, but the GRT-IV trigger replacement turns it into an excellent rifle.

You might also consider the Hammerli Nova as another option. But if you want a fixed barrel as your main concern, you should just get a Discovery. $260, can fit a $50 scope (no recoil to speak of), and you'll just use CO2.

I know everyone goes on and on about HPA in these, but C02 is literally $40 for a small external tank good for almost a dozen refills, and another $20-30 for the adapter. 20 second fill - you're done. Just as easy as a CO2 paintball gun.

$400 including the scope. Super accurate and a joy to use.
