I couldn't take it any longer... Got a Cometa Fusion on the way.

 Went out and put about 150 pellets through it today. Cold and windy was everything was good until I cocked the barrel, it clicked and locked into place but slammed shut right after I let go of it. Somehow it managed to break the butt of the stock off. I found the the gun wouldn't cock afterwards until I pulled on the trigger. The trigger was jammed halfway back and came loose when I pulled it and returned to normal position. Cocked and fired it 7-8 times after that and it was catching like normal again. Guess I'll learn to keep my hand on the barrel from now on. Anyone know where to get a replacement stock?

Holy Moly man, what happened..??   Well I guess it's evident...

I know the initial shock of this will make you wonder "why me" but take a while to get your composure and feel confident that this CAN be repaired and reasonably easily too...

I bought a second-hand air rifle a couple of years ago and the same sort of thing happened, so I repaired it. Being a "chippy" (builder) I am not unused to seeing timber things like this at all in my line of work... I got two square drive stainless screws about 75mm (3") long. I drilled two small lead holes about 25mm (1") up through the pistol grip and into the broken area but NOT into the rest of the stock though,, this is for the two long screws to fit tightly into and take ahold of the rest of the stock. Also, countersink the ends of the two holes so the screw heads will not poke out when finished. Now comes the hard part - actually not that hard, just concentrate on what you're doing. I used a two-pot resin wood glue (there are many good glues like this available). I coated the two halves in the broken area and with the help of my brother, one of us held it all together perfectly lined up, while the other drove home the two stainless screws right up tight into the main stock completely pulling it tight together - PERFECT fit,, hardly even see the join mark. Make sure the screws are in deep enough so the screw heads are below the timber surface line. Fill in the two holes now. Wipe away the resin that squirts out around the joint then when completely dried maybe a day or two later, sand away carefully around the join and screw holes regions to get a 'Like New' finish. You may have to re-finish the whole stock with whatever varnish or oil but at least you will NEVER have a break in that area again...

Actually I have another rifle that had the end of the stock sawn off to fit the original owner's shoulder a bit better. Luckily when I bought it, he still had the cut off piece. I must admit, when the courier dropped it off and I picked it up for the first time, I wondered to myself "Why the #@ck did you do that, it just ruined the stock..!!!", but I fixed it just like the above method in a couple of days and I still have it and you'd hardly even know it happened. It was a bit harder to repair than a break like yours where the two halves can simply fit right back together again,, because in my case, there was a saw blade involved which took away some timber so I had to fill in the gap but hey, it still worked too...

             It's a pity that such a thing happened - especially in a brand new rifle.  When you cocked the rifle (prior to the damage) did the safety pop out as usual or not?  After repairing the stock you should check and inspect thoroughly the whole mechanism. If a problem lies in there  there might be similar misfires in the future.  It will be a good idea to write an e-mail to the shop from which you bought the rifle informing them about the exact incident.

darn shame alright.. In saying that though, I've noticed more than one stock, brand new, which have had small splits/cracks in and around the inletting, even to the point where I've had to drill and epoxy them before they become BIG and nasty... Ahhh the joys of dollar based production lines...

consider yourself lucky the barrel did not hit you. shame on the stock... also check the barrel, it might have bent. strange, i had my cometa for a year, and bought it used, never had an issue like that...i say check the sear engagement. maybe is not returning all the way.debris? broken return spring?

That stinks.  I'd send Cometa an email with the photo and see if they'd replace the stock (and anything else you find damaged), if not luck try the glue and screw fix previously mentioned.  Good luck.

I sent a message to Cometa and also to a dealer selling them here in the US. I guess we will see if Cometa has any Customer Service. I sure miss shooting that gun. It quickly became a favorite. Gonna try to glue and screw it back together so I can get it shooting again.

Cometa referred me to Airforce Guns in Texas. Looks like there is a deal in the works between them and Cometa.  Airforce was very easy to contact and called me back right away. Still months out from stocking guns or parts if the deal goes through.

  Glued and screwed the stock back together so I could get back to shooting the Cometa. Still shooting great. I think I could gather up a few more tools and build a new stock quicker than get a replacement. At least I can shoot it again. Not sure if it's better balanced,  a shorter pull length or just lighter that makes this gun so enjoyable to shoot.
  Still really nervous cocking it until I can find out why it failed to lock properly a few weeks ago.

Glad you are able to do the "fix" and shoot again. The power and weight combination is really nice and it is a good looking gun.  Stay safe and hope they provide you with a new stock.

Got about 30 minutes of shooting today and got it sighted in pretty well. Found out my fold-up table is to low and did not make a good shooting rest. Trigger needs some adjustment as 2nd stage is just a bit long and hard to judge when it will go off.  Still getting a feel for the gun and just did a lot of shooting today. Gun can definitely do it's job when I do mine. Here's my first target getting it sighted in. I pulled a few and just couldn't hold it on target with my make shift rest. Just before quitting I decided to see if I could take out the 2 red push-pins in the top corners holding the target. The tiny push-pins made me try harder to keep the crosshairs on target. 1st shot I pulled it off a little and second shot took out the right push-pin. Left pushpin I choked on the 1st shot and nailed it on the second. Now I gotta find a couple more push-pins for tomorrow, lol. Here a pic of the gun and today's shooting.

Oops. Forgot distance.  Was sighting it in at 30 yards. The large jagged holes in the top left and top right are where I shot the push-pins that where holding the target.

still experimenting with ammo, (good quality pellets are hard to find in Spain, Gamo has the franchise)

I,m having excellent results with H&N Barracuda hunters at distances of 50mts (55yds approx) with both guns 5-5 / 4.5

still getting a few flyer's with dieseling on the 4.5

tried a 3x9x40 centre point on the 5.5, but settled on the 6x24x50 balances the gun nice,

i found on the 4.5 strait from the box that the silver air stripper was loose and had to be turned in about half a turn, (i think the guy with the red locktite was on fiesta that day)

persevere with the trigger mine have settled nicely, and are a pleasure to use when they do, i shoot a full bore 7.62 Russian Dragunov wish it had the fusion trigger,

Thanks for the reply,  I am also looking at purchasing the cometa v10, I posted on the v10 blog that in about 6 weeks i will be in the area in Spain where cometa is situated, My gunsmith will make an appointment for me to chat with the cometa team, i will ask lots of questions for you guys over the pond and see if i can get some answers on a new dealership in U.S

I am sure that if you needed a replacement stock (including the blue one) i would be able to help if you are experiencing to many problems,

I will keep you updated on my progress with cometa,

 Oh yeah, I think it's stronger now than it was. Filling in a few spots where I had some missing chips and will either touch up the finish or re-sand and finish the whole stock. Factory left some sanding marks that I might get rid of.
