Scammer Alert?

I am posting here because this is where the trouble started,  and maybe there is a moderator that knows what to do.

I had posted about my interest In the FWB603  and Walther LGM-2.   
 
I was contacted by two different "members".  Both have only one post, their introductory post.   

I was told that they have what I was looking for,  and gave me an email to contact them on.   When I asked them questions  and for pictures,  I never heard back. 

I am thinking they realized I was not a complete sucker (of course I am for precision  German metal)  and never contacted me back,  maybe looking for easier prey. 

How does one report this?

I fell for one just as you described.......
Only got nicked for an Andrew Jackson, so,,,lesson learned!

After I never received the parts that I  "ordered" they stopped communicating.

I then used a different email address looking for a part that does NOT exist.....they said they had it!
Goes to show ya.............

Perchance was the email address given:  autosdealerparts@aol.com   

If you do not get the PM's in your inbox here, the emails were scams for sure!

The email I received LOOKED legit...had the                "gtaadmin@gatewaytoairguns.org"        as the "from" address,
but I don't think I received an actual PM...
gone now anyway..........

I've encountered the exact scenario before on other sites, but was fortunate no money was lost.  Now, I always make sure there are pictures with a datetime stamp on a piece of paper with the website written on it.  Also, request they post the items for sale in the forum.

I've been on many forums on various hobbies, and my rule of thumb is that I don't buy from any members who haven't been members for at least a couple of years, and/or have very few post counts. If I do, my demand is that I receive the product first before sending payment. Take it, or leave it!

Sorry to hear about your experience. To some extent it's definitely buyer beware. Like you said looking at their profiles, post counts, etc. Also why using PayPal protection can be worth the extra 4% that people usually want you to add so you can dispute payment if an item doesn't deliver.

Yes...for me. My story had the same scenario, a "new" member, no prior posts, messaging me in the forum that "someone" had what I listed in a classified here as a WTB barrel.
The so called "member" provided an Ebay autosdealerparts store as a source for the barrel I wanted and the probable scammer also provided an email address for me to contact.
I suspected a scam but did not report it due to a lack of proof of fraud.

So if you look up Watton (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=94759), you can see his 1 post. If you then search google for what he said in that first post, it also pulls up this user who said the exact same thing in their first post, might just have copy pasted his post or same guy. https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?action=profile;u=89804

[ same guy thanks good man i run ips but seems they joined within mins and same provider , yeah they need another place to go not here and i can fix that.  and a couple others.

About a year ago a new member posted that he had four PCP air rifles for sale.  But he posted it in the welcome new members gate.  I PMed him about the guns and he sent me pictures of all four posed with the same hard case, scope, and pump as accessories.  He wanted to sell all four for cash and needed the buyer to pick them up.  I suggested that he post in the members classifieds gate but he never would.  He would not directly answer questions about the guns but would go on in emails that he was an invalid and could not shoot them anymore.  The guns were all recent manufacture entry level PCPs. An AV Avenger, an Umarex Origin, a Gamo, and a Hatsan.  We corresponded for about a week with him wanting me to come to DeLand (FL) and look at them and me trying to get more information out of him.  I looked up his address and found out it was a unit in a strip mall that looked defunct on the Google street view.  It seemed real hinky to me from our first contact.  I decided he was someone trying to sell something stolen and quit talking to him.
