New DRS

I had a moment of weakness y'all.  I may have said I'd never buy another FX, but I just couldn't help myself.  I bought a DRS Classic in .22 with the 600mm barrel and synthetic stock.  I cannot believe how light this rifle is w/o a scope.  It's pretty insane.  I don't plan on doing much to it (I swear!! LOL).  I have a low pic rail on the way- should be here Tuesday?  For now, that's it.  I'm just going to mount a scope and shoot it.  But you know me, I can't leave anything alone.  I MIGHT get the larger plenum in the future, but as of right now, I'm just leaving it alone.  I've got some mags for it from Orion, and I'm going to get some mags along with a single shot adapter from CARM.

What DO I plan on doing with this rifle you ask?  One thing for sure (as of right now, at least): Have a McMillan A5 Supermag stock inlet for it.  I know- expensive.  Out of the ordinary.  Weird.  Maybe even crazy.  But it's what I want.  I'm really not interested in an aluminium chassis.  VERY preliminary measurements show it SHOULD work.  But before I go buying the stock (and getting my hopes up), I'll do many more measurements.  At least the inletting is simple (not "easy", but simple).  I'll then have the stock hydro dipped in M81 Woodland camo.  Flat clear, of course!  I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed, that all the measurements will work out and I can get this stock.  I think it would be the bee's knees!

Other than that, I just plan on shooting the snot out of this rifle.  I'll post pics down the road.  Of course, once you've seen a DRS, you've seen them all, mine won't be anything special.

Congrats Tom!  I did the big plenum thing to mine and have since put it back to stock!  My recommendation, wait till someone comes out with a mid-sized plenum!  There is plenty of unused space available inside that stock hunk of aluminum, sooner or later, someone with the right skills will make one with around 24-30 cc of plenum, twice the stock volume and about half of what's available in the SHP plenum.  From the experimenting I did with plugging the SHP Plenum, 24cc of plenum is plenty to make good power while preserving some efficiency!  In the mean time, enjoy!

I have a particular stock I'd like to use, and I have one for a PB here, that I can compare to the DRS...  So I finally took a copious amount of measurements of the DRS, DRS stock, and the stock I'd like to use...  Happy days, because it looks like it'll work!!!  The barrel channel specs is what worried me- stock's max allowable is 1.35".  O.D. of the DRS barrel/air reservoir is 1.34".  So I called the stock manufacturer today, and they said the barrel channel measurement is in relation to the installation of flush cups (for QD sling swivels).  So if I'm not installing them (which I'm not), I don't have to worry (width of the stock is 2").  HAPPY DAYS!!!  My crazy idea will work!  I also took measurements around the trigger area.  We're good there too!  I compared the FX trigger guard and the bottom metal I have and I'm good there too!  The PB's bottom metal is wider than the DRS's trigger guard, so it'll definitely clear.  The width of the DRS's action, even at the widest point is smaller than the max allowable for the stock.  We are good all the way around!!  I'm stoked!  It looks like my crazy idea will work!  I'm waiting on a phone call from the manufacturer about something, but once I've got confirmation, I think I'm going to go ahead and order the stock!  Now I just need to find someone to inlet it LOL

Anyhoo, that's all for now.  I'm still waiting on the CARM mags and single shot loader.  I'm also still waiting on the Pic rail.  Supposedly it'll be here today, but I won't get my hopes up.  I'm done having hope with these mail carriers.  They've failed me far too often.  It'll either show up, or it won't.

He'll also work with you for capacity depending on your clearance below the scope.

VERY cool!!  I have a SST from CARM coming in, but I'll order another one from U.S. business in a heartbeat!  I REALLY wish we could get one of those fancy SST's that are available for Daystates- they pop out automatically when you pull the bolt back... But that's asking too much I think.  I've inquired about blueprinting/improving a 7 shot magazine for Theoben Rapids, which will work with RAW and my Dawson...  I'm also hoping to be able to get one in .20. 

Oh- and I've ordered two DRS mags from him just now! I'll ask about doing a more compact DRS mag in the future.  I think it would be cool if we had a smaller mag.  I dunno- I'm weird.  I want more shots than what a SST provides, but less than 13.  I REALLY like the small 7 shot mags for Theobens.  It's a good middle of the road amount of shots.  Plus they're REALLY compact.  Fingers crossed I guess.

Ha-HA!!  The pic rail showed up today.  It's been installed.  Now I can mount a scope and get to shooting!!

I also got confirmation today that the stock company will inlet the adjustable cheek piece stuff and the adjustable buttpad, since I'm ordering a uninlet, flat top stock.  Oh happy days!

I have some new scope rings coming in today, they're not as wide as the one's I'm currently using.  This should help get better eye relief. 

I guess my idea is crazy enough that no one will copy it, so there's no harm in just telling y'all.  I've been overly cryptic about this stock idea.  Thinking it over, it's not like it's really all that special, and in the grand scheme I really don't care if someone copies me.

I want to inlet a McMillan A4 stock for the DRS.  As I've said, I really don't want to use an aluminum chassis for this build.  I also really don't want to modify the DRS much more than I already have.  I am still considering the larger plenum.  But that is more about a touch more efficiency, not trying to get more power.  Plus, with the way the plenum is designed, I can inlet the stock for the DRS as it sits now, and if I decide to bump up to the larger plenum, I can- there won't be any modification needed to the stock.  Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy!

The only weird spot will be the back, where the grip drops down.  But overall, I think it'll look pretty dang good!!  The main reason for this choice is because it's what I want LOL  I've been dreaming of a setup like this for over 15 years...  Now, I can finally make it happen!  I know- it's still very "tactical".  But the design works.  It fits/feels good.  Plus it's more "traditional" than all these chassis.  I'm all about it!  Anyhoo, thanks for tagging along on yet another weirdo project idea.
