Budget .177 rifle recommendations

If for some reason the CMP daisy doesn't work out, the next best thing I would recommend is FlyingDragonAirRifle's low powered (600FPS) Ruger Airhawk available in both wood and synthetic. I got mine for $65 delivered and its the most fun gun i have. I have heard for $20 extra Mike can do the trigger magic that can make it match grade. The standard trigger work fine for my plinking though.

Hey Ron, two models that come to mind are the Diana 240, and the XS B-12. Both are lower powered and don’t need a gorilla cocking effort to shot. I would check with Mike at Flying Dragons and see what he might have in stock. I tuned one for a fellow member long ago and it turned out to be a great little gun. The  “Two-Forty” is the Chinese made Diana, and the “240” is the  pentagon “F” gun made in Germany. It’s a neat gun too. Or,…..just save up a couple $100 more and get an HW30. To me the 30 is “the” ideal low powered and easy shooting break-barrel. It will spoil you rotten!! 😁

Exactly my point, Steve. The 853 is wood and metal with a Lothar Walther barrel. It was built for target shooting and the extra weight will help.

I'm really leaning in that direction because it is a truly 'match grade' rifle.
I wrote this guy mentioned on the form, Tommy Whitten, yesterday and still have not heard back from him.
I am very reluctant to fill out the order form with my private information and CC numbers to some one who won't reply
to an email.

There is also a phone number and I'll call that tomorrow and see if I can order one.
I really like everything I've heard about the gun and I too think it would suit my needs the closest.

I went to their website (google search) and they only had three rifles showing and non of them were Ruger Airhawk. They just had numbered models.

It was originally designed as a 10M competition rifle. You will find the accuracy to be phenomenal.
Stan at CMP goes through each 853 that is sold. He ensures it functions properly, cleans/repairs/replaces anything needed prior to shipping the rifle to you. Stan is a great guy and does top notch work. I know, I work with him from time to time.

You will probably get a book with the rifle that explains how to take care of it. In that book is a section that describes how to perform a trigger job, should you feel it is needed. If, for some reason, you don't get the book, let me know and I'll see you get one.

Just remember, it's designed to accurately shoot .177 wadcutter pellets at 500fps. Enjoy your new rifle !

Ron, keep in mind that these are used rifles and may show signs of use but they have all been inspected and brought back to factory specs if needed. Many have received guns that show signs of use but there have also been those who received gun that look as new. I have been able to resist ordering one of these but they have always been on my radar.

I've been wanting one for a few years now but having to print out the form has stopped me because my printer is down.
