Diana RWS 350 Feuerkraft CHOP JOB .177 12 LAND

I like the 350 pro compac so well that I am thinking of doing the old chop job on my .177 12 land barrel. This gun shoots great. I know that the 12 land has been a topic on here as a barrel that most people don't like due to accuracy. Having a good one I hate to do this mod but what the heck. I'm sure that starting with the 12 land is not the most desirable one to start with. Feuerkraft 350 has a barrel length of 19.63" and the pro compac is 15.75". Around 4" +- difference. I have the tools to do a good chop and recrown at the house. Any advice is welcome. Should I or not perform this mod. I have read on here and the net of some pros and cons. I know people may not want to have this topic started again. Losing FPS does not bother me, grouping does. I know barrels are not cheap for this gun. If I ruin the barrel I will still have a good stock and power plant that will be worth something. I would really like to take the barrel out of the breach and cut that end.

Just wondering. If it shoots great, why risk it?

hey if you have a 12 land that actually shoots I would say its a rare animal and do not mess with it. The 12 lands shoot faster and if its a good one and groups don't Fool with it...might take a bunch of 12 land barrels to find another good one, and at UMAREX prices not really a option to replace it
If you want the shorter barrel get another rifle you need more anyways *_* I see that you only have three of them just like me LOL

I would send it to John in PA and have him put a choke in it at the same time.

I have to think more on all of this before I make the cut. Wonder how much it would cost to have it done by John? Don't need to buy another gun.

I have found 2 people that can do the barrel chop. Prices are not bad. Freaking new barrels are ridiculously priced even for the short barrel not to mention the brake muzzle. You can buy a demo gun for the price of both. Thanks Escondido1 for your help. John in PA emailed me back right off.

Well here we go!! Out of better judgement I have elected to make a giant step on the barrel job. I know all of the hype on the 8 land vs the 12 land barrels. I know you have a 50/50 chance of a good 12 land. After doing the math for this adventure I have bit the pellet and purchased a new pro barrel. I look at it this way:
1.) 12 land barrel I have is good
2.) chop job should be good due to what I have is good
3.) if it's not broke don't fix it
4.) chop job goes bad I will have a junk gun
5.) junk gun means buy a overpriced replacement
6.) chop job investment and freight = around 1/2 the price of a new barrel
7.) only replacement barrel found is 12 land
8.) abandon project or march on
9.) expensive hobby
10.) judgement time
Ordered new barrel!!! I don't need another gun! Stupid move but pulled the trigger already. Only time will tell now. At least I will still have a good gun one way or the other.
YES I HAVE LOST MY MIND!!!

you didn't lose your mind. I for one agree if you found a good shooting barrel don't mess with it
. If its a good shooter in 12 land it also gives you more power which is a plus again a reason to not mess with it.
Why would te replacement barrel also be a 12 land?? Did you order from Umarex???

I don't understand that they should have a firstline supply of the latest version parts. makes you wonder if they just strip returns for parts to get rid of some of them and recover costs???
Sure seems like UMAREX is poking its customers in the eye on the whole 12 land versus 8 land at every chance!!!

If it don't shoot like the one I have it's going back. Already got that straight. They only had 2 in stock. I asked for an 8 land. I have bought many guns from them and they have always taken good care of me. I'm not at the least concerened. They will make it right.

Barrel to be here tomorrow. I have broken the gun down and given a drop of chamber oil. I have given it a light oiling of the spring area and letting it sit. I am not going to do a lube to it because I am going to order a vortec kit for it and will wait till I see how this new barrel does. In the mean time I have cut about 2 " off of the front forearm and rounded the front of it and applied about an area 1/2" coat of bedliner to the sanded area. Looks darn good. I also cut a 1 1/2 off of the butt and reshaped the rear pad. So over all the stock is from from to rear 3 1/2" shorter. The front looks like the 350 true mag gun. Spun me a piece of 3/4" alum. and made me a muzzle break 6" long and put set screws in it to hold it. The break on the 350 PRO is a bit heavy and much longer. I may put a tad of JB weld on it later after I play with it. Going to test it at different settings first. Breaking down the gun is really no different than any other gun I have torn down. Just made a little different. I was going to put this barrel on my 350 .22 and sell the 350 .177. That way I would have the best of both worlds in one gun. NOT!! What the heck~! I will just leave the .22 alone and make a break for it and keep the .177 for the gang. Since the stock mod worked out so good I will later do the same to my PRO. Well, at least cut the butt off because with the 3x9x40 scope I have to lean in to the gun to get the scope in my sights due to the front bell not allowing it to go back enough. SHORT ARMS!!!! This has been an enjoyable project so far.

Barrel arrived this morning and the gun is back together with all the Mods. So far the gun is grouping well. No fliers, stringing. Shooting rws 8.5 gr at the time and the gun is much louder. Some of it may be the chamber oil or at least it was the first 5 shots. Run about 50 through her and seams to be great right now, I feed it some 10.5 gr and see if it doesn't tame it down. I really like the shortening of the butt. I also did a little cheek pad. Stock mods made a different looking gun. Back to the bench!!!
