I went RA end of January 1970 and only had 1 number, my SS number.
I went RA in March of 1968 and only had a number prefixed by RA, Social security number came later. Narrowed it down to around 1969 I guess.

I just checked all of my orders...
When I left South Korea (January 1968) for Vietnam, I shipped on my Service number.
When I left Vietnam for South Korea (February 1969), I shipped on my Social Security number.
We all asked Tricky Dick not to use the SS number for the military but, you know?
Now we have another for active duty and retired.
10 numbers that makde no sense whatsoever...

I agree, a service number is way better than SS#.
I also think that everyone should be a part of the military. There is always something you can do, able body or not. It is a life changing experience to be part of something bigger than yourself. I enrolled in a community college after I returned home, those giggly kids made me realize that they had missed something.

What place doesn't get snow? I have seen a light snow flurry in Cairo Egypt once, and it snowed in Riyadh the same day.

I would like to thank TOM (a.k.a Tommy Boy) for the warm welcome and link to this post!
US Air Force-Retired SSGT 1976 -1984

Been lots of places and seen lots of things, but the highlight of my short career was being able to work on Air Force One during an unannounced stop and shaking hands with the great President Ronald Reagan.
I would like to thank all of the Veterans who have served our great country and especially to all those who have been lost and wounded!
