I am so glad that we have very few or no skunks around here. These dogs would get sprayed by every single one that came within range.

So do buzzards. They think it is perfume.

I had to crawl through some high grass to get a good position. He was slightly over an old berm so I waited for him to stick his head up. I was on my belly with the bipod out and put the JSB in the brain at 30 yards. He never knew what smacked him but the blood spray was impressive and kinda gross too. Yuk. Spun him around and he went down like a brick.

Patrol today turned up no dissidents  . However, the skunk appears to have been eaten pretty much entirely  . I guess something was hungry  .

Shot a rabbit today and the pellet hit just behind the eye  stone dead and blood out the ear  I  walked up to pick it up and it was twitching so another brain scrambling shot   Double dead now  picked it up and took it home and threw it on the lawn and left it for a while    Half an hour later I went out to skin and dress it  Definitely dead   I got a plastic bag to put the carcass in to deliver it
 to a neighbour as she wanted try a new recipe. As I put it in the bag the carcass was twitching .
How dead is dead?

I once had a rattlesnake striking at me with it's headless bloodied neck as I was skinning it. That was kinda spooky.

Oh, the skunk was deader than dead, there was no twitching, where the head was there was mostly a hole. I know something ate it because there were a few left over bits scattered about, the remains of the day after something had a stinky feast .

Yes, I read they have a poor sense of smell, they rely on great eyesight and hearing

I am pretty sure this is what ate him. This little critter makes the rounds every night almost on clock time.

Went to the permission or a few hours today.  Bagged 5 chipmunks and a rabbit that's been burrowing under the house at the farm. Watched a couple deer through the scope for a few minutes until they disappeared into the woods.  Then the owner feed me a couple beers and we shot the bull for an hour as the sun went down.  It was a great evening!

I took a slow stroll around the area I have been clearing and as I rounded a corner on the trail I saw something slither. 2 1/2 ft cottonmouth. He had a bulge that looked like he had just had a meal. I knew I didn't have a gun handy/loaded and I didn't want him to escape while I went to get one. I grabbed a 4' 2x4 from behind the she shed and busted him in the head on the first swing. The next 5 blows were just for good measure.   
I went and got Betty Lou so she could get familiar with what one looked like. She made me toss it over the fence before I could take a picture. She didn't want crazy Boss to get it.
Yeah, I'm happy to evict that thing.

 If I had that issue I would probably not have got this chipper today He was sitting on the log about where the scope is,H&N slugs as they were only $4 a tin shipped for a second. Head, heart lung vitals, I covered all the bases, but he did wave good bye on his way out

I've been known to do that to hogs and bandits with the 38 snubby. Just for good measure feels rather good at times doesn't it.

Airguns are sure fun but there is something so satisfying about pounding a snake into hamburger with a big club!

When I'm out mowing or working I always keep some form of shooter close by. But like I said, I just took an unplanned stroll with my 20oz. coffee in hand.
I may have to start making that a daily routine and come prepared. That area that I have been clearing is very close to the swampy part of the property.
