I've been away for a couple years... What happened to pellet prices!?

Seriously.  My last major order from Pyramid Air was in 2015.  😂  My favorite .177 pellets are the AA Field and AA Heavy.  They've doubled in price!  Inflation, pandemic, etc I understand.  But how is it that JSB .22 and .20 are about the same price still?

What'd I miss in the past couple years?

Andy I'm glad that I have been casting all my own these days, no worries when it comes to pellets/slugs in my case however I've never been a big fan of .177.

No one knows, the prices basically changed overnight. The JSB .22 and .20 while not much have gone up a $1 a tin but good luck finding either since the .22 fly off shelves
and since I checked last, only Utah Airguns had any of the JSB 13.73gr .20 cal pellets and they may not either.

I think it has to do with supply and demand perhaps with a bit of inflation thrown in for good measure.  Remember, too. lead is no longer mined or smelted in the US.  Most of our lead is recycled.

99% of my pest problems are birds so the .177 works great. Less air and was cheaper... No longer cheaper though!   I've got a few 22 and 25 PCPs but those don't get shot much.  Mostly on windy days or for 4 legged pests. 

I've been following your casting posts and it's definitely a great idea that I would like to try one day.

It's just weird that 22 pellets are double the weight but half the price.....   As SteveP-52 said though, they're in high demand too.  You'd think those prices would jump.

Half wonder how much of it might have come from JSB since they're the ones that make the AA branded pellets. Someone on another forum
said they emailed AA about the crazy jump in prices and said AA's reply basically laid the blame at JSB's doorstep. While not a crazy jump, the
cost of JSB's has gone up and it's been noticed.

Just random lame thoughts on my part, but considering how many companies JSB makes pellets for, maybe AA just fired the warning shot that
prices for anything JSB made are about to go up???

Prices of everything and anything are going up, expect the price of JSBs to go up significantly higher and soon.

I have just recently got involved with airguns. I chuckle at the complaints about pellet prices. You guys shoot all year for less than a powder shooter, rimfire of centerfire , spends at one match. Over the long haul prices will follow supply and demand unless the government gets involved.

Agree….the increase is minor compared to what firearms shooters face.

SOME of the pellet brands have shot up in price a lot more than others (on a per-pellet basis, which avoids the pellet count per tin).

Looking at PA, and ignoring pellets with the blue “information” button (which means they don’t have any, don’t know if they will ever have any, so no reason to estimate pricing. )

Just looking at “buy now” or “pre-order” that we can assume will lock-down at the listed price.

Can’t blame a lot of the difference on lead cost...divide the rest of it between transportation costs and production costs.  In many cases, would be the difference in transport from Gemany vs from the Czech Republic….no clue what that difference would be, but at least Germany isn’t land locked.

Assuming two things:

1. No price gouging/price fixing going on at the distributor level.
2. No serious increase in profit level for the pellet makers.

i think its every mentioned plus many things we use cost less then a penny a piece to make but development packing shipping  by the time its on store sheif and everybody thats touched those pellets makes a profit its a differant story

  I was in Academy Sports yesterday and the had plenty of .177cal & .22cal H&N Baracuda Hunter Extremes hanging in the airgun section.  They were $11.99 each now but I was used to getting them at another store for $8.99 not too long ago.  Bought some anyway since I was out of .22.

Inflation

No price stays the same.

In 2015 gas was 2 a gallon, now its 3. 50% jump

Price of lead per ton increased nearly 10% from 1,788$ a ton to 1,930$ a ton.

Average income (labor cost) from 56k up to 68k, 20% jump.

Rent cost average in 2015 was 923$, and is now 1,104$, yet another 20% jump.

Shipping cost average went up around 20% as well across the board.

So the cost to manufacturer and produce, receive and ship products, have ALL gone up.

Really, that is a lot of increases across the board over the years, and that hurts both their shareholders, and us the customer, we're lucky prices haven't doubled, given enough time they will though from your 2015 perspective/price point.

I understand the overall increase in prices over 6-7 years but the 22 cal pellets have barely changed in price.... You'd think that they would have been similarly affected right?

Just checked out the pricing of my (guns) prefered .22cal pellets... $24.99 a tin!!!

Yeah, I'm not going to be buying those anytime soon, Lol. For about a quarter of the price, I'll run cheap stuff and see how things fair. Even will go to their competitor for half that price. Luckily I have a few guns that prefer CPHP's.

Random lame guess is just sit back and wait for it to happen like I mentioned earlier. I figure if AA raised their prices the way
they did, at some point JSB finally will and you'll see their pricing rise to like numbers.
